Help with setup for 50/50 ts drifter.

Ok, just to start i know you guys look down on AWD drifters, i dont care, i normaly drift RWD.

I'm trying to make a drifter that ripps all four tires lose in every turn, the projectcar, a Tommykaira ZZII. I have to say that drifting with a 50/50ts is almost imposible, so now im using 42/58split just to keep the car stable in drifts.

I hope to get a setup where i can use it with a 50/50split, it ripps all four tires with the 42/58, LOTS of smoke, totaly sideways and with four solid black marks.
But the car is hoplesly understeered, and it counters way to violently.:grumpy:

When i adjust the suspension to make it more stable during drifting it gets almost imposible to start a drift.

Current Setup:
Stock ZZII

LSD:
Initial Torque: 20/5
Acceleration S: 45/60
Breaking S: 15/60

SUSPENSION:
Ride Height: -10/-10
Spring Rate: 18.5/17.3
Dampers: 7/7/7/7
Anti Roll: 6/6
Camber: 1.5/1.6
Toe A: 0.20/0.12

TYRES:
Front: Comfort Soft
Rear: Comfort Medium

Any tips on how to make a Midengined AWD driftable?

@30/70ts, comfort hards.

To be honest I don't think it's possible to drift with that much power going to the front. An RWD drifts because the power breaks the rear traction while the front still has it's un-driven traction guiding the car. A 10/90 split works and is easier than RWD because the bulk of the power breaks the rear traction while the small amount maintains front end grip.

Sending enough power to break traction at all wheels can only result in a total slide with little to no control.
 
to be honest, im drifting with some degree of control with the 42/58 split. Got 8k on a lap around suzuka east. Tho i have to ebrake it to get it drifting with my current setup.

It is difficult to control, but its also rewarding, as it looks alot better than the normal RWD drift.

Maybe the car just needs more power to ripp lose 4 wheels, or maybe im missing something when it comes to the tuning. Tuning dosn't come naturaly to me, thats why im asking on the forum.

As you see, i have soft tyres and a more relaxed setting on the LSD in front. and medium tyres in the back, this is to compensate for the lack of traction when doing a AWD slide.

Maybe i should try Sport tyres and a engineupgrade?

I was only pointing out that he thaught it was only the 10/90 split.

My intentions where good. Truce? =)

Changed rear tyres to Comfort Hard and instaled a mid rpm turbo, just got a 10k round on suzuka east.

Maybe the weight distrubution on this car makes it hard to AWD drift, does anyone think it would be easyer to do it with a car that has a front mounted engine?
 
You won't be able to powerslide (it's powersliding, not drifting ;)) a mid engined 4wd car that has that much torque going to the font wheels. Set it to 30/70 and it will be way more chuckable. In your current setting, every time you go full throttle the car will pull itself out of the slide immediately.
 
Im actualy trying to drift this car, im sideways when im entering the corner.

Thats why i use grippier tyres than the comfort hards, so it can hold a line trough the corner without sliding out of the track.

Im trying a 30/70 split now, i might redo the suspension setup to support it better. Seem to slide out of the track easyer now:confused:

You can see that GodFrey states that its not just 10/90 that RWD drifters look down on so yes in GodFrey's next post you are the one causing disturbance.. as for this thread.. it should be put in the tuning forum as you are asking for help on a setup

I see that now, i was just worried that it would escalade like many treads do. I wil ask a moderator to move the tread.

Or perhaps he can leave the thread here and people that actually mean to help him can post in it.

It isn't helpful to be a snob about torque splits when someone clearly spells out what he is seeking help with.

Tyres with more grip aren't the solution, they will just require more power and speed to be losing traction which will make the whole thing harder to control.

The less grip the tyres have the less torque it takes to spin them up and get the car losing traction, which means it can be sliding at lower more predictable speeds and is also less likely to become unpredictable as the tyres gain traction in the slide.
 
Im trying with comfort hard both front and back, i can't go as wide(sideways) around the corners with the hard tyres, as the pictures in the first post will show.

And the car is a little wobley now:P Maybe the agressive camber that i used with the softer tyres.

The way iw been driving it is realy sideways, fethering the throttle to make it "dig" itself towards the inner curve of the corner. (if you at all understand what im trying to say now:P)

I was being "a snob about torque splits" at what point?. All i was commenting on was Godfrey's comment and the fact that the thread is about a setup makes me think it should be in the tuning forum... Maybe i'm wrong then!.
 
The second line was not directed at you. It was a notice for everyone, hence it being a separate line.
 
There is a simple method to get were your going with that car. Set the Center diff at 10/90 and set the front LSD to 5/5/5. All you need to do is make your standard adjustments to the other parts of the car and have fun.
 
But that's trying to copy a RWD car and failing. At risk of getting serverly punished by bringing up the taboo subject, I've made posts in 3 seperate threads relating to 4WDs saying that using 4WDs to practice gymkhana is absolutely, totally, 100% accepted by everybody, the troubles come when people start to try drift with them. A little analogy here: RWD cars are BMXs. They have competions set up to do things with them that are pretty crazy on dirt jumps. Then some guy comes along with a BMX that he's fitted a small engine to to make it go faster (10/90 split 4WD car). Now, there's nothing wrong with his intentions of doing what he's doing, but it's not exactly in the spirit of BMX'ing, which is using push bikes. Whilst he may be able to do better tricks or make the current tricks easier, surely he'd be better getting himself a true motocross bike (Ken Block style big power 4WD) and doing some really crazy things with it? Please note that I haven't said anywhere he can't use his motorised BMX, but using it with other normal BMXs and portraying it as such is what gets people's backs up.

Also, what we really don't need is people posting pretty needless comments straight off the bat about how 4WDs are frowned upon here and stuff, which is why threads are now getting locked.



Now, in response to the OP, as has been said before I'd recommend using comfort hard tyres just to slow everything down, decrease the weight a little and possibly increase the power a bit, although if I remember correctly they have 600ish as stock right? I did buy one a week or two ago but I haven't yet even used it, let along started tuning it. So hopefully in a few days I'll have messed around with it a bit and I'll be able to give you some facts and figures :)

As is customary in these kinda posts, I'll direct you to the gymkhana thread, in which I think there is a set up for a C4 WRC which is pretty generic and, bcause of this, I used it as a base for most of my 4WD cars. However, the ZZII is mid-engined not front-engined like most of the cars I've played with. Still, it may be useful :)

And I might be speaking out my arse when I say this, but it seems to me from the amount of smoke coming from the front tyres that they must be sending almost 50% of the power/torque to the front wheels.

Yep, they have mad skills. Lots are hours are going to have to be spent on the Top Gear Test Track until I start doing stuff like them! If only we could get 700+bhp out of the Audis in game!
 
Don't worry about the people who think awd drifting is not drifting. I see it as a different class of drifting. I can understand if an online tourny asks for a specific drivetrain type.

I myself have a RM STi which I have been enjoying. I am still trying to find a good balance between the suspension settings and other things. The first thing I did with it was backwards entry on the top gear track. Other than that I still take it to the online lobbies and just go with the flow.

I think i might try a Rally or race modded car instead of the ZZII. seems to be better suited for this.

Some pics of the ZZII with my initial setup, you can see on the seperation on the skidmarks(lol) how wide im driving it.



These are from the last section on Suzuka East, its sort of my referance track. Is it posible to upload replays from GT5?
