Help with tuning on snow

I need some people for tuning my car to work well on snow. The rally car i'm using is the subaru prototype. I've gotten every rally race beat, except grand canyon and the two snow tracks on the hard dificulty. I don't really get what i'm doing wrong. The oponet car seems to perfectly apex slide around the turn and then take off like a rocket. The only way I found I could win on the snow circuts its to get ahead of the computer really early in the race. Because if he gets ahead of me I just can't seem to catch up no matter what I do.

OK if you wanna win it fast you can do this:

1st: Win the Subaru Impreza Touring Car from the "Stars of Pleiades" from the subaru dealer.

2nd: Then buy snow tyres for it, trust me, this car is great, I won nearly every special event with this car

3rd: While racing, yes, getting ahead of the AI at the beggining helps a lot, but you have to take the corners at a low speed (17-20 MPH), don't try to go crazy fast hitting the walls 'cause you'll get plenty of 5 sec penalties. so go slow and don't worry, on the short straight that there are on the tracks, you should be able to catch up....;)

remember, sometimes slower is faster! 💡

Giving full throttle while exiting a corner is not something you should do. If you give throttle while still cornering, you will only use the power to go sideways. Wait untill your car is truely straight and then give throttle to power forward.

You can also use the back end of your car to "bumb" your car straight. Hard to explain, but if you run a corner long, throttle aggressively, and let the back end of your car hit the sidebank. This will cause your car to straighten and no time penalty. This move is quite usefull on s-bends.

Some consider this cheating, but I don't, since it is a standard manouver on snow rallies irl.

Update: I've given up :( I'm just going to leave those races there. I've tried everything. I just can't beat them. Can anyone suggest any good rally games. PS2 or xbox.

I have a question for you: Have you completed the IB and IA license tests?

Ok so do the same thing you did when you passed the ones in the snow: slowing down on corners, easy on the throttle control, and if you see that you're going to hit a wall, try to turn the car a little more to the opposite direction and hit it with the rear half and you'll avoid the 5 sec. penalty...I know you probably know all of this but that's about the most handy advice i can give you; practice makes perfection, so grab one of your cars and go practice on the snow tracks, don't quit and just keep pushing...a great competitor gets up and keeps going after he falls ;)

Lower the LSD acceleration values for more traction under acceleration. 👍

Get yourself a car with a shorter wheelbase. It is easier to control under slide. The Peugeot 206 rallycar would be my choice. Do not add anything to it. Just raise the rideheight a few clicks and adjust dampers to something like 2/4 2/4 Front/Rear.
Brake REALLY early and be very gentle with the throttle at all times! Also make sure you pass the AI as soon as possible, in the start if possible.

i think the Escudo has too much power for snow-rallies, i fought most of the rallies with my 528HP Impreza STi, never had hard problems.

I did all of the dirt and snow rallies in the Hard section with a 300 hp Peugeot 206 rallycar. No worries at all!

hahaha, believe or not, I just re-did all the rallies on hard level, and used that same car! :P , you're right! no worries whatsoever, AND it gave me pretty good a-spec points 👍

When I won the 49 Beetle, I remembered the fun I had in VW's in snow (I've owned a few). The real cars are supurb in snow! So... I added the usual mods, and took Ice Arena (easy) both ways. Hehe...

OK, I was lucky, perhaps. My opponent spun out, I passed him, and then kept my cool for the rest of the race.

I wouldn't suggest the car, but the technique is the same for faster cars. Once you get ahead, KEEP COOL. And hog the line.

-- But since this thread is in the 'tuning' forum, I suggest 0 camber all around, high and soft on the shocks and springs, and HIGH settings on ALL the diff values...

on snow, less is more.........in regard to the power *gg*

That is, the application of power. I tried detuning a car, but it was worse. It's when and how you apply the power, but it's more in steering. The idea is to get the car pointed which way you want it to be, and get the wheels straightened out, then you can really accellerate.

There's a certain point that comes in a turn where you set up for the straigtaway. When you enter a turn, your rear end comes out and you countersteer to compensate. Upon exiting a turn, you try to come out with the car's body lined up with your desired direction of travel. You try to not be countersteering at that point. The goal is to have the car pointed in the right direction, AND the wheels pointed straight ahead, and THEN you can use your horsepower.

Get yourself a car with a shorter wheelbase.

Not for me! A shorter the wheelbase, the quicker it changes direction, meaning it's less stable in a turn, more squirrely, more likely to spin out in a heartbeat, less forgiving.

I used to have a job where I drove up and down a mountain in dirt and snow, and know that a Chevy Suburban is faster up the mountain than a Chevy Blazer. Both cars have the same engine, the Blazer is lighter and shorter, but the Suburban can power smoothly around the turns, but the Blazer is always wanting to swap ends on you if you don't watch out.

This may be somewhat a matter of driving style, but I think a shorter wheelbase makes a car much more of a handful, more prone to mistakes, and not forgiving. One thing you don't want on snow is a car that wants to swap ends without warning.

I took Ice Arena hard level both ways in a Lancer.

You might also want to try a Dodge truck, if only to see what I mean about stability. I took Ice Arena in medium both ways with it...

The Dodge RAM is a glitch! You can win every rally and get 200 A-spec points for each one in that car! Too easy!

As for long or short wheelbase; A short wheelbase makes the car easier to handle on a slippery surface, since it is easier to make the car turn in whatever direction you want it to go, and a shorter base can also change direction faster than a long one.
As for stability, you are right! But to go really fast on snow or gravel, you do want to have a shorter wheelbase! Look at the WRC cars... not exactly limos...:)

you're right about the Dodge RAM, a blast for the rallies!! and what Team666 said about the wheelbase/stability-thing is totally correct..... but rally-driving with limos would be interesting *gg*

thats just how i beat ice arena and chamonix on hard:
just handbrake at fullthrottle into the turn, (ride it like you didnt pay for the car) :P and slide around with the rear touching the wall.

and now, since i read this reply i dont feel like a cheater anymore. or at least not too much.

i plan on driving the rallies clean again sometime, because i want to and i need to. grand canyon for instance seems to be very strict about me bouncing. this race just wants to be finished clean... i just think ill invite a buddy, tie him to the chair, and only let him go again, when he finished grand canyon. you could use that trick for the ice rallies too...

but really, before you get frustrated, just try to get your rear pointed at the wall while fullthrottling around.

exception is the chicane near to the start/finish line. this needs to be taken somewhat slow, straight and most of all... tight.

good luck
