I played for a while when GT5 first released and got to level 25 or so, using DS3.

Found Logitech Driving Force wireless wheel and just picked game backup (primarily via bspec bobs).

I'm stuck on the Vettel challenges. It doesnt matter if I'm using the wheel or the DS3, nowhere near fast enough. To go fast I can't control the car, it either oversteers me into a near wall or understeers me into the far wall. I'm usually getting disqualified within the first couple turns and can barely manage to finish (further than 1 min out of Bronze)

Does anyone have tips for practicing to be able to even COMPLETE any of the Vettel challenges? I've spend the last 3 hours just getting myself DQ'd on the first couple turns or being in the 3:30 mark for totals to finish and I rapidly find myself frustrated to the point of wanting to get rid of the wheel and game.

Please help :-/

I failed Nür for a while, and heard Monza was easier so I got DQ'd on that for a while.. Took a break to keep me from throwing a wheel through the TV.

I don't know what else to say, really, except that these challenges are really tough. You need to be precise, with minimal wheel input & very quick reactions. And practice, practice & then practice some more. I find the car ridiculous & never bothered going further than bronze.

Are you still allowed to cut the chicanes in Monza? If so, try this if you're really desperate to get a good laptime. And try not to brake too hard.

Only the best of drivers can win that...it really separates who can "play" the game, and who can "drive" the game. I can only play the game...

Bin it and move on to something more productive. I've not bothered with any of these challenges, beyond a token effort. There's plenty of joy to be had from this game and I'll not waste my time on these ridiculous cars and challenges...

Not sure my advice helps especially as the only one I have managed is Monza and that with a bronze only. I did find that turning the steering sensitivity right down to the minimum helped me a lot. The other thing I did was start really slow and just tried to put in clean laps regardless of the time. You'll soon find your lap times dropping as you gain confidence.

Good luck 👍

Sorry for the frustration. I haven't tried any of these events, but this post made me literally laugh out loud, because it's exactly how I've felt trying to get gold on some of the license tests.

With a decent amount of practice, the bronze times should be within the reach of most GT drivers. The Gold times are a wholly different story!

My recommendation is to practice at Monza, since that is the most straight-forward of the tracks.

1) Leave the guide-line on
2) Turn on SRF
3) Drive your first 10 laps very slowly with the goal of just completing the laps. Don't worry that your times are 10 seconds off the bronze time. The goal is to complete the laps. Speed will come with practice.
4) Practice
5) Practice
6) Practice

The above is just my 2 cents worth, from someone that finds the X2010 Challenge pretty hard.

After many hours, I'm Gold at the Nurburgring GP track, Gold at Monza and Silver at Suzuka.

Good luck,

If you're getting DQ'd on turns you still have a long way to go, even when setting error free laps with a wheel it takes complete focus to do it twice especially on a track like Suzuka, i spent maybe 45 mins on Monza, 4 hours on Suzuka and 3 hours on Nur doing lap after lap for all golds (before they made it easier).

Watch the demo/replay of the person getting the gold time that PD gives you and just follow his lines. It will show you that you can trust the car more in certain areas and you can go a lot quicker through parts of the track. I did all three challenges in about an hour using this strategy so I hope you can use it to help you win too!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll give it a whirl when I get home from work. I think I get one of the cars from my bobs hitting lvl 35, should be done tonight when I get home. I may drive it around Monza just trying to get clean laps until my confidence goes up (so my rage stays down).

Im also stuck on the X1 challenges. I can't even get bronze. I've done 2 clean laps of Nurburgring GP once out of about 45 attempts but I was about 30 seconds too slow for bronze with my DS3 controller.

I usually drive with manual transmission, so do you prefer automatic when driving the X1 since it accelrates so fast and shifts gears constantly?

After reading a lot on the forums about how hard these challenges seem to be for some people, I was very surprised when I got bronze on all three challenges after spending an hour attempting each. Using DS3 and my not-so-great-driving-skill. That was about 1 year back and when I tried again recently, just out of curiosity if I could improve, I got instantly 2 seconds better on Monza with SRF on and automatic gearbox (shifting myself on the X1 was hopeless). I used this assists setup back than too but I also had the driving line switched on, so I'm quite proud I managed to improve so much with less assistance. :)

So besides my recommendation to use assists, you might want to make braking a bit easier by changing the brake bias. As you got a wheel I guess you know the RA menu? If not you should be able to map it on your wheel in the options of GT5, anyway this menu allows you to customize the braking bias while on track, so although you may not access the settings from the actual event menu, you can still change that bit. Personally I found 10/10 BB to work very well if you use ABS on 1, you can basically floor it until you miss the corner, and the moment you put your foot on the brakes you can ease off again already. (Probably the same with BB 5/5 but... the placebo effect of higher numbers helped me... :p )
I have very few experience with wheels myself and never drove the X1 with anything else than the DS3 but I can imagine the force feedback and such make it way harder to quickly react on the steering, throttle and brake pedal than when using the DS3. At least try to use the wheel without FF or the DS3 without vibration because it calms you down while driving quite a bit.
Although, in the end you'll be faster with the wheel if you're really good - by that I mean more people using a wheel golded the Vettel Challenge than people with a DS3.

I just got bronze on Nurburg by doing the following;

Set Transmission to Auto
Set Driving Line on
Set TC Off
Set SRF On
Set Active Steering off (if you have a wheel not sure this is good advice)
Set ASM off
Set Steering Sensitivity -2

Then start slow and follow the driving line and braking points they really help. Took me 30 minutes of constant restarts but the lap times come down eventually. If you get a bit heated....walk away and do something else till you calm down then try again

I'm typing this whilst calming down from trying Susuka!!!!!!..... :D

Good luck 👍

Thanks I'll try that.
