You know, all this talk of losing your home to fire just reminds you of one important phrase:

You don't know how much you love something until its gone.

Still. Glad to know that everybody affected by this is holding up well, Sage, Lifter - respect brothers. At least we get a human perspective instead of the written scaremongering tripe the media cooks up.

These fires are pretty spectacular from a viewing standpoint - I went in to LA yesterday to have dinner with a friend and I took 10 west into the city - you can see the smoke from everywhere; it looks very serious.

The smoke has made it to Phoenix, as of yesterday afternoon. The moon was orange last night, and the sunrise this morning was eerie and red. It's also darker than usual. I can only guess it'll get worse for a while.

Cool. The pic of my house is obviously old. I have no idea who's car is in the drive way and there is no grass or trees. I have both.

I am very very glad both of you made it trough the worse parts of this hell, and that all of your loved ones are well. I shpould have posted in this threa before, but I really wasnt aware of the fires ( I live in mexico) until some days ago, and I didn't notice this thread. sorry again to both of you, when I read the first post of this thread, I was like "oh my god, no..." and looked desperately to find another post by solid lifters. when I found one I was like... "phew" they made it!" Same with Sage. I am really really glad for both of you.

Thanks, Cano! :)

Things are looking good now - it's pouring rain outside, the fires here are pretty much contained, and the smoke has mostly cleared away. Yay!

Yep. The air is sooooo much better in the last few days. I finally got around to cleaning up around the place yesterday morning. The house looks brighter. The power just came back on finally, so no more going outside in the rainy cold weather to refill the damn generator. The stress of last weeks events gave me one hell of a cold & flu.

The total so far of the fires is 775,000 acres burned, 20 people dead, 1,200 homes burned, 200 structures, 2+billion in costs and the perps are still out there.

Some sad news I forgot to mention, Wilbur, our dog(goat), took off last Saturday and we haven't seen him since. My wife bought a new dog on Friday. The boys named him Bob. Wilbur had himself a coyote girlfriend, so I think he took off with her during the fire. I hope they are fine.

Our cabin in Big Bear appears to be still standing as far as we know. There is still a fire, but the weather has slowed down enough to give the firefighters enough chance to create a huge firebreak. I hope it pulls through, but we're still not out of the woods yet. OK, that was horrible, but try to remember I have a horrible sense of humor, and I'm sick as a Bob.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.
