so my girlfriend just called me to tell me that someone broke into my car while she was at work today... they bashed in one of the front windows and took not the nice head unit BUT THE FACE PLATE. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE WHEN THEY TAKE SOMETHING THAT IS NOT ONLY USELESS TO THEM BUT MAKES MY RADIO USELESS TO ME!!!

I have a 3.5mm stereo mini wired into the head unit for MP3 players and I have my psp remote plugged into that, they didn't even unplug the psp remote even though its clear they would have seen it considering they unscrewed a piece of wood trim and threw it in the back for no apparent reason...

They were trying to get at the electronics, so to hotwire the car.

Someone saw them, and they ran.

That is the worst theory I've ever heard.

If you want to hotwire a car, you go under the dash in the foot well area. The radio is not connected to the ignition system...

That is the most ****ing bizarre thing I've ever heard...

Maybe they stole a radio similar to yours, only the owner didn't leave the faceplate in the car, so they needed one?

At least you didn't lend your car to your dad and have this happen in the parking lot while he was at work. And I didn't just edit this and have no idea what TheCracker is on about.

That was not a good day for my blood pressure

same thing happened to one of my teachers at school, only the ENGINE got stolen. what was the car? a brand-new Kenworth T2000 Semi-Cab. good news is he knew who stole it because he saw a honda with the engine almost completely obscuring the windshield. those guys were in some serious... $#!^.

 This is ridiculous.

Sorry about the incident land sea air - what's a fix going to cost for both the window and the radio?

Which part is ridiculous?

I think he was referring to the stolen truck motor going into a Honda... being absurdly ridiculous.

And brilliant placement of the "kthxbai". I love it Duke! :dopey:

Land Air Sea... crap deal. One of the reasons I generally take my faceplate out with me, just so someone doesn't steal just it. Gotta love the asses that exist out in this world sometimes.

Sorry to hear that, land sea air. Seems to me that the robbers didn't know what they were doing.

I had a buddy who had an XM radio a year or two ago and had the main unit stolen but they left all the wires to the system in the car. Who knows why people do such stupid things.

UPDATE: well it looks like they didn't get the faceplate after all, it was in the glove box where it was supposed to be, apparently my girlfriend had remembered to put it there like I asked her to... Just as an example of how retarded people can be heres a little list of things they did and didn't do...

the glove box was UNLOCKED and they didn't bother to take the brand new leather man or other tools

they broke in on the drivers side but unfortunately they did not unlock the door so the alarm didn't go off which might have got them caught

they didn't bother to try and take the DVD player head unit which I just installed Sunday (this would not have been difficult at all considering I have a JVC and the sleeve in the dash is for an Alpine and therefore the radio isnt actually locked into the dash at the moment). now this just bothers me, you break the window of a car and risk getting caught and don't even attempt to take anything...

thank goodness they didn't unlock the car because if they had gotten into the trunk they would have about 500$ worth of tools and car parts...

I guess the only fortunate thing is that the thief that decided to break into my car was apparently a complete idiot and got nothing for his efforts

Or maybe breaking the window was the whole point... and you've just been the victim of a drive-by smashing.

Thankfully that's all it was.

Pretty obviously. You're not the victim of a break-in here land sea air if they didn't even unlock the doors - now you'd better be looking for people who have a grudge against you!

Which part is ridiculous?

Both his post and your reply. His post was one of the stupidest things I've seen here in five years. Why would he post something like that and then edit it FOR SPELLING? I also like how everyone disregarded it entirely except for you, who told him to shut up. Truly classic GTP moment right there.

Well considering I just got the car and it was my girlfriend driving it at the time I doubt it involves any personal vendetta. The general consensus between me and my friends is that since it would have been pretty obvious there was nothing in the car worth stealing except possibly a stereo (which they didn't even touch) it was most likely just a random act of idiocy. The only thing that gets me is that they unscrewed a piece of trim for no apparent reason...

BTW @ M5 I'll be fixing the window myself this weekend with one from the junkyard which should cost around $30 and 3 hours... Since I don't have comprehensive insurance fixing it myself is the easiest option

EDIT: them not unlocking the doors doesn't really mean that it was random for sure, it just means that they noticed the sticker for the factory alarm

UPDATE: my girlfriend is now beginning to suspect that the window may have been broken by a girl that she helped fire from her store earlier that day, if so things could get interesting.

I will be fixing the car tomorrow and I'll try and take some pictures of the process since I haven't posted any pics of the new ride anyways.

gosh, my friends were throwing some candy out of their windows, for a little fun, and then this guy sorta started following them. At the next light, he got out of his car, and shattered my friends window with a garage door opener.
the point is, people who do this crap for stupid reasons, need to stop,
and so does crime!

Random act of idiocy? i think more like a random act of someone hating you're f-ing guts, dude.

--EDIT--
my cousin heard a weird buzzing coming from the garage last night and this morning had the roof half-cut off her volvo 850 wagon*... i'm guessing it was my friend Jesus... he's always vandalizing old cars, especially volvo's.(*looked like a really messed-up pick-up :D )

Sure sounds like a good friend...oh wait, didn't you read Duke's post?

Got the new window in, $22 and an hour, half at the junkyard getting the window (someone had done half the work for us when they took the window motor, all we had to do was slide the window out of the disassembled door) and half an hour at my house putting the window in... Not too bad and it makes me feel better about the whole thing considering how easy it was. I imagine I will still be finding glass for months though :)
