Video now embedded! Thanks Z! :)

I'm pretty new to the drifting thing, but it's fun so I figured I'd try it out. A few friends thought it was cool, so I hope you all like it too. I'm far from great at drifting, but I enjoy it!

Oh, and I was using the sixaxis controller for this. I have a DFP but it's really hard to get the wheel to spin fast enough for countersteer and such. When I get my hands on the NA edition of GT5P, I'll be able to fix that!

Wish I knew how to embed videos on a forum. :indiff:

Nice work for using a controller. Good car choice, too.. she's slippery.

Oh awesome, thanks for the tip (and compliment)...I'll go fix my post now.

And yeah, trust me, I can pick so much apart in the video as far as driving mistakes go that it isn't even funny. But for just 1.5 hours of practice and using a controller, I was happy with the results.

Nice!

I really like the camera view from the top of the car. looks very realistic.

Funny thing, that was an accident...if you watch the beginning of that clip, you'll see that I changed views too quickly. I wanted to do a cockpit view, but skipped it on accident; then I thought the roof cam looked cool and stuck with it. Glad you liked it :)

nice vid, it's funny how music I would never listen to sounds so good mixed with the visual delights of GT.

^^Haha ...very true.

And great video by the way. This is making me want the game even more. Ive never played a proper GT, i played GT-HD and was hopeless at drifting, but i cant wait to get prologue and start practising properly. And youve just given me more motivation! Cheers mate.

I figured the whole Mustang with classic rock playin in the background thing would give it a sort of American attitude haha. Just the way I like it :) . And I cant wait for GT5P to make it here to the states so I can finally get my wheel configured the way I'd like it and start drifting with it :) .

Looks good. With a little practice you can smooth out that countersteer (if you're using the analogue stick to steer). Otherwise, looks great! In fact, I'm quite jealous. :indiff:

I can't wait to get my (soon to be bought) G25 and GT5: Prologue a whirl. Drifting a Ferrari F355 around Autumn Ring Mini reverse would be heaven. I sure hope they include that track in the full game.

;)

Yeah the full game is going to have a lot of awesome drifting possibilities. But I really like Suzuka short (thanks to seeing BreakerOhio's vids, which gave me the motivation to try it myself). It's a great track for long drift strings through the S-bends and all the way through the last turn.

As for my countersteer, thats just how I use the analog stick. The first console game I ever got was the first GT (at 10 years old) and the tapping technique is what I've used since I started. All my driving has been self taught through many hours of playing GT; I've never studied techniques or anything. It's also worthy to note that while playing GT Legends online, I've won races (and gotten many top 5s and top 3s) using my keyboard...so I guess I'm just used to that kind of control. It'll be fine once I get the new GT5P and set my wheel to 180 degree rotation :) .

Very nice vid.
BTW OP, how did you connect PS3 to that LCD monitor of yours, if you don't mind me asking? It looks like a PC Samsung LCD. Does it have HDMI, what resolution are you using there? Thanks.

I used this handy little $10 adapter from newegg (you can also find em at any store that sells home theater stuff for about $15-20).

I'm running 1080i in GT5P, and it also runs 720p in the games that dont support 1080i. Picture is great (and Blu Ray movies are stunning as well). It's a Samsung 216BW (21.6in) with a max res of 1680x1050, 5ms response time, and 1000:1 contrast. Works great on all my PC stuff too. Got it for $279 and free shipping from newegg. Being a college student with a part time job, bang for the buck is key, and this monitor is probably the best $279 I've spent on HT. PC games look amazing, movies look amazing, as do PS3 games.

I just grabbed a HDMI to DVI Cable for $10 Australian.

Works a treat.

Cool, but how do you get the sound out from PS3 too? It's not through that DVI isn't it? Is it from the optical out?
Also about 1080i, what this resolution de facto is, I think it's not 1920x1080 like usually on a LCD PC monitor isn't it? Like I've noticed already in GT5 1920x1080(1080p) the FOV seems to be a bit wider than on this particular case here(notice on how the rearview mirrors don't come fully into the field of view). In some videos the image contains the mirrors fully that's why I think there's Full HD used(1080p) and 1920x1080.

In this case I'm afraid on standsrd TV where the resolution is very small the rearview mirrors might be absent at all, or almost at all. :(

For the sound, I'm running AV cables to my home theater 5.1 surround sound (I'll run an optical cable once I grab an optical/coaxial adapter because my reciever uses a coaxial input).

According to wikipedia, 1080i is 1920x1080, but it's interlaced, meaning every other line is refreshed instead of each single one. The actual resolution is around 1440x1080 iirc.

Oh, now I see. Thanks a lot. It makes sense now because I remember in the old days of GT4 some poeople have said it uses 1920x1080 interlaced, but that's not real 1920x1080 as far as the FOV goes and that's what matters actually when you use the meaning of resolution in PC's standards.
Now it'll be very interesting to know how the game looks on a 480i TV from in the cockpit view.

I found a vid on youtube it sais it was captured at 480p. I decided to show you and see it isn't bad, although it seems little limited, and that map looks huge from the outside view. :)

Besides even in 1080p the morors don't always totally fit into the screen. I guess that's a matter of the car itself. I was a bit concerned as I don't have a HDTV yet, but I think I might consider one seriously. BTW sorry for the offtop.

I'm sure it'll look fine on a regular TV. I remember back when GT4 was being developed, Game Informer Magazine took a tour of PD's studio and they had a huge array of all kinds of TVs so they can make sure the game looks good on all kinds.

But for me, when I sat back and looked at my old 27in CRT TV and my 21.6in widescreen monitor that could run HD, I chose to use the monitor!

Nice drifting with the mustang, seems like you're using a controller, great skills. Can't wait to see more of your videos

Thanks man, I appreciate it. And yeah, usin the good ol' sixaxis until I get my hands on the US version and get to tweak my DFP for drifting.

I've seen too drifters using old DFP in GT4 instead of the new one, or just 180 instead of 900 mode, it's more convinient since the countersteering on DFP is unrealistically sluggish. G25 should be better though.

Yeah, even though the G25 is awesome, I can't see spending all that extra money when my DFP provides a great experience. And after all, even if I was able to get the countersteering down, I've had problems forgetting where the wheel is straight haha. Guess thats where the old tape trick comes in :) .

Looks like a good start.
Next video, use a mix of different cars and tracks. or at least different tracks.

Yeah, as I practice more, I'll try different varieties. I also had a pretty good drift lap in GTHD; got a 10096 with the 599 on R1 tires. That score ranked me in 6th place, the 2nd best on R1 tires by less than 100 points.

It's impossible to make those movements of the steering wheel with a controller. You're a lier.

Nice moves... good luck with more drifting.
Question:
I also own DFP (but not yet PS3), on GT4 there was no way to configure the amount of rotation of the wheel while on the PC driver there is a way.
But, from what you are saying I understand that you know that GT5P also includes kind of "wheel-amount-adjustment", is that right? Are you sure it included or you are guessing?

Eh... I dont know exactly but, y think GT5 Prologue have only 180 and 900 degress options... or im wrong?? :):)

For the G25 racing wheel I don't think there is an option always 900 degrees. and always set to SIM mode. I try going do DFP options and play around with options and nothing seems to work.. IDK why.
