Why would Toyota replace McNish after the German GP with Frentzen??

I can't figure this one out (if it happens, which looks likely),
mainly because McNish has done a decent job in only his 1st
season in F1. Sure Salo has out qualified him for the most
part, but the team/car has let him down more than he has
taken himself out of races.

I don't really have anything against Heiney Hole
Frentzen, but I don't think his salary (rumored at about $3.75
million) is worth it. He has 3 gp wins, but that is about it that I can see. He never became that must have driver anywhere he went... I remember when he was at Williams - I thought JV was in trouble, but HHF never really materialized.

Anyone got some insight???

I'm hoping that Verstappen will be Salo's teammate next year.
Salo said in an interview that if Toyota would let him chose his new teammate, he would chose Verstappen, because he was "bloody fast":D

Well there's two separate rumours here, aren't there? The first concerns the immediate availability of HHF as a driver, which presumes that Arrows have folded. While the team is quite clearly in the death throes, it is unlikely that they will fold so soon. Morgan Grenfell have to see sense and protect their own investment, which entails keeping the team going. While this happens, HHF is still under contract to them and thus unavailable. Of course, a large slice of this rumour is prompted by the attempt Jordan made to get HHF to sub for Fisichella in France. Rightly, this was quashed because Frentzen hadn't qualified, hadn't tested, had only in fact done four laps of Magny Cours that weekend! And he's still in an ongoing legal battle with Jordan after last year.

The second part of this rumour is coming from Toyota's refusal to say anything open about McNish's position for next year. Surely it would be nothing short of lunacy for them to dump McNish at this point in the season. If there's one thing a new team needs, it's a bit of stability. If they dumped McNish at this point, it would be a complete travesty of justice. I know he's been outqualified every time by Salo, but he has shown an endurance racer's ability to get an ailing car to the finish. Well, if the damnable thing gets off the line, that is!

I'd be hugely surprised if this happens.

 I remeber Verstappen, what a Guy, he sure could hang with the best of them :D

You'll be made in holland's friend for life!

I admit that Verstappen is fairly handy, but there are better drivers out there...

I never liked Verstappen. He crashed more than Sato and 9 times out of 10 only looked fast because he had his car on very very light fuel. He barely outqualified Bernoldi (who is being spanked by HHF).

I think McNish is safe for the year. I can't imagine HHF is the right guy for Toyota really, he's too sensitive to the atmosphere in a team and Toyota can't really be forcusing on that kind of thing,

Jos Jos Jos, I hope Jos Verstappen gets the call, he will kick some serious ass. He needs a seat. Very unlikely buy I hope Mclaren takes a good look at him for next season.

Ron Dennis will not hire Jos Verstappen - you read it here first.

Mind you - he once said that he would never hire a driver he didn't understand, and he didn't understand Nigel Mansell, and didn't that end up well?

Still, there's too many quick, cheap young things running around at the moment for him to even consider Jos (Heidfeld and Webber for starters, plus Wurz sitting on the sidelines) - and I do think 2003 is going to be David's last year there, unless he does something outrageous like winning a championship.

Dennis wants to hire Jos, I once saw him get a great start and actually battle it out with Schumacher for a few Laps :rscared:

The guys got great potential for the Championship :gldmedal:

When the hell did this become a McLaren/ Jos thread.

alexy - Check where he ended that race. Jos frequently went for 2 or even 3 stops in 1 stop races to look good for 10 laps but then finishing further back that he should have.

Well, Autosport has reported that they think it's Cristiano de Matta - apparently Toyota are negotiating him out of his contract at Newman Haas.

I just heard the same thing... and I would love for daMatta to go there (to F1). I actually got to meet him in Houston in 1999 for the CART race there. This dude is super nice, he actually talked to us, FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES! Which is unheard of... Not that people are mean at CART races, they are just busy. My bud and I were asking him all sorts of ?'s and he was answering and even asking us ?'s. Cool guy. He is really small though, about 5'5" or 5'6" and probably only weighed 140lbs.
If he went to F1 I would have a new favorite driver (sorry Coulthard). :)

Well HHF has left arrows. What he'll dot he rest of the year I don't know but I doubt he'd have done it without at least a drive for next year.

My way out theory is he'll do a few races with Minardi just for the experience and that he has a confirmed 2003 drive with Jordan or Toyota.

I hope he goes with Minardi. Then we will see how good those cars really are.

It's interesting that none of the rumours are talking about HHF at Minardi for the rest of the season, isn't it. Apparently, Justin Wilson had a seat fitting (it didn't).

Talk is of HHF at Sauber, at the moment, at least. His manager has admitted that it's unlikely that he'll be driving in Hungary.

I'd be a little (and I mean - a little) surprised if he ends up anywhere before next year - apart from Yoong I really can't see anyone else going anywhere. Massa has made some mistakes but I think it'd be a bit harsh if he was out of a seat - Sauber did take a fair punt bringing him on board, and they did get lucky with Raikkonen last year.
