Hiccup Remedies

I've had hiccups for 3 hours and I can't seem to find a cure.
I probably could've googled it, but I'd rather hear from real people other than people who say they're doctors :)

I've tried a spoonful of straight cordial, and the old breathe through a paper bag, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions Gt'planeteers?

*Slowly breathe in through your mouth until you reach a point where you can no longer breathe in. Hold.
*Breathe in a little bit more.
*Hold for 10 seconds.
*Slowly breathe out through your mouth until you reach a point where you can no longer breathe out. Hold.
*Breathe out a little bit more.
*Hold for 10 seconds.

And like that *clicks fingers badly and blows* they're gone.
 
Drinking water upside down is a surefire way that's always worked for me. Just take a mouthful, tip your head upside down and swallow, do that a few times.

Works every time!

Another method I read about somewhere was pressing hard between your upper lip & nose, which surprisingly does work sometimes, but not all the time.

This. It's never failed on me.
 
I always find drinking 9 sips of water works. And it has to be precisely 9 sips otherwise it doesn't work for some bizzarre reason.
 
A bullet to the brain. If that fails, try what Famine does (works for me everytime as well). :D
 
I read somewhere, and I can't for the life of me remember where, that the only sure-fire way of remedying hiccups is to massage your anus with your finger in circular motions. It sounds like a wind-up and I have never tried but apparently a group of (probably very bored) scientists proved that it works.

I know a guy who has had hiccups on and off for ten years now. Now that must be living hell.

I'll umpteenth The Famine Method, too. Works great.
 
I do a basically simplified method of the one Famine mentioned. Deep breath, hold for as long as possible, and they disappear. Works all the time.
 
'Tis true. When I hiccough, it's extremely painful. Anaesthetic-free dental surgery painful. It's just a bloody good job I found something which works to get rid of them.

I havent had the hiccups for many years since I was a early teenager besides the very odd one off (single hiccup) but..

No one else mentioned or commented about this, is this an Australian thing? When I was a kid thats what a neighbor told me to do and it always worked for me, haven't tested it for a very long time though for reasons above.

Its not solely an Aussie thing. I've heard it many a time here as well.
Nobody commented on it because it was mentioned in the midst of this "anal stimulation" chat... :lol:

This always helps for me:
1: Fill a glass with water. (small recommended)
2: Close your nostrils with your middle fingers, and simultaneously your ears with your thumbs.
3: Now you should have your ringfinger and pink free, use these to drink the water.

But are Australians not upside down anyway? Does that mean that you'd need to drink water the right way up?
 
There's one thing all of this has in common - concentration. Famine's breathing method may differ, but it does take thought to do it correctly. The rest are not things you'd normally do, so you have to use a little extra concentration to do it. One of my old high school teachers would tell you something about breathing in as much as you can, releasing half, hold it, release half again, and so on. Or something like that. Probably meant to inhale somewhere in there too.
