Should some high end cars just be left alone? ie ferraris and such. Also when upgrading a car should you just go all out and buy the best mods?

It's all personal choice. Some cars I mod a few things, some I go all out on. Depends on what I need them for and how obsessed I get on making a particular car faster.

To avoid having a dilemma like this, I just buy two versions of each car, particularly my favorites. One completely stock and one with all removable upgrades.

Personnally, I think for cars like the Enzo, less is definately more. It doesn't need to be fully modded, it just needs very minor tuning for it to change from a good car to a great car.

But, if you are using one to participate in or to try and win a certain event, you might need to fully modify it.

I usually buy two of my favourites, one standard, so you always have a reference point of what it drives like stock and the other is tuned, either for an event, to make the car generally better or to remove issues I might have with that car (understeer, oversteer, not enough power, too heavy etc etc)

I have 350+ cars, only 1 or 2 are fully modded, in my opinion, it's not necessary for all cars or even the majority of cars, and for some, it totally ruins it.

I enjoy driving heavlily modded cars a lot , but there are times I just wan't to jump in a Standard Supercar , go to the Ring online .

Then I set the room up for late evening/early morning + sunny (even though it'll still be nightime ) and just go for a drive at night .

The lack of stupid horsepower and pressure from Racing is just the Ticket to wind down and relax , plus having a reasonably quiet exhaust means I can just enjoy the Driving .

I also set the Race to START as quickly as Possible in case someone trys to jump in and have a Race

I just bought the Ferrari 458 italia, and did all mods. Smart? or no? Ill be using it for circuits

Did you test drive the car before you fully modded it??

If yes (and you did this in a way in which you got your money back) then yes, that was smart.

If no, and you bought it and immediately tuned it to the maximum, then no, that wasn't smart.

Always test drive a car, then start to tune / modify it bit by bit, slowly, not all at once. Also, find A spec events like Level 19 Polyphony Digital cup or Level 22 European series to test drive your car, this way you are trying out / testing your car but you are earning money for doing so.

Completing either of the above series in your 458 would have got you 300,000 credits, that would have paid for the car plus you would now know how it feels and what, if anything, you would like to improve on.

Note: I tend to add sports soft tyres to all my road cars as standard, racing cars I use the racing hard tyres that come with it.

I never mod my high end cars except for the tires, if you would consider that modding. My buddy thinks I'm insane for it, but those cars are built like that because that is how they were designed. Now I do mod the hell out of my RX7's, Honda's and so on. But it is a personal preference.

I did drive it a little bit in an am race or something, then i noticed the enzo had better top end and i started to mod. I was thinking of going for the full custom tranny and stage 3 engine.

Top end is irrelevent on alot of tracks, most of the tracks on GT5 high power cars can't reach thier maximum available speed, go for handling, traction, balance and grip. Then add more power, bit by bit - slowly.

Yes, by adding a custom gearbox and adjusting the max speed for each track then technically they are at maximum, but don't judge a car by it's standard, stock top end.

A car that brakes well (is stable under braking and turns in well), corners well and accelerates well will beat a top end car at alot of the tracks (if both cars were to be driven equally).

Enzo will have a better top speed because it's more powerful and alot lighter than the 458 in standard form, so, tuning your 458 to become equal to the Enzo in terms of top end isn't wrong, but just remember, on another track, the 458 may have the advantage.

That's why I drive my cars on different tracks to test them, find out what their stengths and weaknesses are in a variety of circumstances.

Try to look at each car individually, rather than modifying one to compete with another. Otherwise, using that theory, eventually you'll have to modify all your cars, which isn't really necessary to either enjoy them or to go fast and win races.

This fourm and GT5 make me want to quit my job.....all great info, thanks dudes. Sometimes i go nuts and mod the crap out of a lot of cars and blow races away, i want to be more competitive and rub paint a little bit.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy one with all removable upgrades that you can revert to stock at any time, and then a second one with all removable and all/some permanent upgrades? That's what I do.

Two rules:

1) Don't max out your cars (especially tuning that can't be reversed like weight reduction and NA engine tuning), wait, be patient, test and test again - preferably in the A spec races I mentioned, so you're making money by making your car better. Suspension kits, tyres and drivetrain first, power and weight last (unless it's a really heavy car, say 1500-1600kgs+ then do stage 1 weight reduction earlier OR if the gear ratio's are terrible then change that earlier, but for most high end cars this isn't the case).

2) Look on the GT5 online sub section of this forum for like minded people or races that interest you. Ask questions, try different people's races, get to know people, race hard, race clean and race fair. Practice practice pratice.

Then you'll be sorted 👍

You have a good point here. I never thought of doing it this way, but the only thing is this method would be more expensive, since you're buying all removable parts for both cars, along with buying the permanent upgrades for the second one. That's the only thing that bugs me.

That is a great idea, the room setup, think I am going to try it later today. :)
