Well.. I've been thinking for the last month or so...

How has everyone gone about deciding what to study in University (or colledge.. or tech school)?

And... second question..

What are some jobs that require a good background of physics and chemistry? I really don't want to be in the same dillema as my sister is in right now. She's currently grade 12, and has no idea what on earth to study after she leaves highschool.

well deciding what you want to do with your life is a really big decision that takes time... i've met plenty of freshmen who go into a school or college undeclared, and that's perfectly fine... it gives you the opportunity to take classes (besides taking GE, general ed classes) and seeing what interests you. I didn't declare until the end of my sophomore year... and literally, there are even juniors who have switched majors at least 3 times. Are you good in physics or chemistry?? i believe most engineers are good in both these areas, as well as math....

Yeah, engineering is largely based on chemistry and physics, depending, and math.

You don't need to know what you want to do right now. Just go to a good, all-round school with a solid reputation in all areas, not a real technical school or an art college. You won't have to declare your major until the second half of your sophomore year, which gives you 2 years of sampling to see what you like and are good at.

Also, don't forget, something less than 50% of college-educated people end up working directly in their major field, anyway.

After High School, i hope to enter an Art Institute college here in Miami. I don't know if will be entered though, seeing as i have nothing behind me to show what i've done.

I really don't know anything about getting into college...

Which makes you no different than the majority of the rest of the other students your age. ;) I didn't know crap myself and I'm studying programming nowadays and it all went without a hitch.

As a back-up plan if programming turns out extremely difficult, I'll study English, and if all goes well, become a translator/interpreter.

Well, i'm halfway through Gr. 11. I still have no idea want I want to do.

The quest for 1 million kills in vice city? 1.8 million which is Vice City's population? :p

As I have explained before, I did graduate in '03. But right now Im pooling my money from my job for the long run. (College, condo etc.) I'm going to be doing that for 2 years or so.

My profession was computer repair or something along the lines of that. Or work at a local computer chip manafacturing company called National Semiconductor, and start a carrer there.

And thats my roadmap for the next 10 years or so.

Sounds like a great reason to get a real big tattoo somewhere visible, and half a dozen piercings or so. Let us know how that works out for you.

i am in the same dilemma at the moment. Im just about to start grade 12 and im clueless about what i want to do. personally i would love to get involved in motorsport but since im not whizz at mechanics and i havent raced properly yet i see little oppotunity with that, unless its in PR or something.

i was also thinking about journalism, but ill need to really improve my english to get that. Cameraman was also on the list. but basically i have no direction. it does suck
