Okay. I'm dead set on the Outback, but I am REALLY confused now.
I'm going for the 2.5i Special Edition.
According to the brochure and the window sticker, the car has a Limited-Slip rear Differential. According to a tech at a diffrent dealer, it does not.
"It has vehicle Dynamics control, which applies braking to one wheel when the car enters a slide and sends more power to the other." - Salesperson
"What it does is it counteracts the Limited-Slip diff." - 1st explanation.
"It does the same thing as a Limited slip, so having the diff is pointless because VDC is there." - Same guy, explanation number two.
He also basically said that the 2.5i SE is mostly front wheel drive and only uses the rear wheels when needed. Is that true? It seems to go against everything Subaru advertises. You know, the fulltime symmetrical all wheel drive thing.
I'm royally confused. Is a 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5i Special Edition REALLY driving all the wheels in normal driving?
I like truth in advertising. But these salespeople can't get their stories straight.
What does VDC do? Does it act as a sort of limited-slip system, or does it act more like an open diff?
Regardless, the 2.5i SE is the car that screams "me." It has things I end up needing (wiper blade de-icer, foglights, a compass) and things I don't. (heated seats) I just want to know if I'm honestly getting fulltime symmetrical all-wheel drive as is advertised in their literature.
