Yeah. They were both stunning. The outback feels more..me. However, the 3 is car. hear it roar.

Now the idea of looking at a Honda Element popped in my head. It has that quirkiness to it, which I do like. It's a honda, so it will outlive the moon. Hrm. Thoughts?

If were going to talk Hondas, the Element is an interesting, but not eactly good option. For the money, its not the best in the segment (2009 HHR SS anyone?). But.. Have a look at the Honda Fit Sport. For less than $16K, its a badass, fun to drive, fuel-friendly option.

Now you know why the Mazda3 is as incredible a car as it is, and why several members here have bought them. I've liked them from day one, and I still wish I had one every time I blow by one in the GTI. Yes, I just said I'm jealous of Mazda3 drivers while I'm driving a car that does everything right. And that's before I even think about reliability.

I believe your car is not made by BMW, and thus your statement is in error.

:sly:

The Mazda3 is a fantastic little car though. I'm somewhat fond of them myself.

w00t! That means my car does everything!

Anyways I have yet to drive the happiest car in the world, maybe tomorrow since I'm going test driving with a buddy of mine. I just can't get over the looks of the car though, I'm sure the new Mazda 3's are excellent but I don't know if I could be seen driving one.

You got me. It doesn't do snow or off roading very well... But other than that I think the GTI has gladly taken everything I've thrown at it with little trouble. I'd easily put it as one of the best all around cars you can buy.

But now we're getting way off topic.

Okay. I'm dead set on the Outback, but I am REALLY confused now.

I'm going for the 2.5i Special Edition.

According to the brochure and the window sticker, the car has a Limited-Slip rear Differential. According to a tech at a diffrent dealer, it does not.

"It has vehicle Dynamics control, which applies braking to one wheel when the car enters a slide and sends more power to the other." - Salesperson

"What it does is it counteracts the Limited-Slip diff." - 1st explanation.
"It does the same thing as a Limited slip, so having the diff is pointless because VDC is there." - Same guy, explanation number two. :boggled:

He also basically said that the 2.5i SE is mostly front wheel drive and only uses the rear wheels when needed. Is that true? It seems to go against everything Subaru advertises. You know, the fulltime symmetrical all wheel drive thing.

I'm royally confused. Is a 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5i Special Edition REALLY driving all the wheels in normal driving?

I like truth in advertising. But these salespeople can't get their stories straight.

What does VDC do? Does it act as a sort of limited-slip system, or does it act more like an open diff?

Regardless, the 2.5i SE is the car that screams "me." It has things I end up needing (wiper blade de-icer, foglights, a compass) and things I don't. (heated seats) I just want to know if I'm honestly getting fulltime symmetrical all-wheel drive as is advertised in their literature.

^ I used to have a WRX Wagon, and this is a very fun site if you really want to know your Subie. ;)

Hh...mmm.......BBBAAAAAHAHAHAHHHHAHAA.

Surely you jest.

Poor Brad seems to be catching a little flak this time around.

Just don't use the windshield de-icer, the Scuby windshields suck and crack way to easy from what I hear and mine has chipped wayyy to easily in the 18 months I've owned my car.
But I only have the Sedan 2.5SE so I don't have any first hand experience with the de-icer.
However I can report that I am truly going to miss my car (its a two year lease up in Feb '10) especially right after I wash it..... so sexy

The_Vanishing_Boy - 👍👍

I really want to spam you with +rep, but can't. Thank you so much. :) So it appears that the Automatic's AWD system is front biased for the 2.5iSE, but the rears are always under power after all. This.. Quells my concern for the most part.

Brad:  First Jim Prower ran publicity for the AE82, then myself for the W124, and now you for anything and everything off the wall. You deserve a cookie.

I drove a Honda Element today and loved it. It has shattered my conceptions of a small SUV. Were I not dead-set on the subaru's superior traction and unbeatable warranty (well, the 3rd party) I would snap one up.

This Interstate Star lifetime Warranty is the real deal. methinks I shall go with yon 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5i SE, even if mine local dealer must procure one from another dealer yon in another state. Now I have a most perturbing question.

Do I want Seacrest Green Metallic or Dark Bronze Metallic? :boggled: I really do like them both. Yes. I WILL be this picky, as this damn well better be a long-term car for me. :dopey:

According to my owners manual the automatics have a fuse that disables the front wheel drive.:)
so you can get a bit more rear bias that way....

High-Test-> I'm glad you find it helpful. :)

^ This site is very helpful, you can get some insights and prospectives too! ;)

Outback-> I researched the damn thing. And if I would buy one, I'd take the XT Limited (Turbo & 5M/T w/ S-Drive). :P

Element-> If you're planning to do more rough and dirty stuff without heavy off-roading, I'd recommend the Element. The LegO might be a little too plush to do some roughin on the inside. Plus you could do this:

-> But if rallying is more your style, stick with the LegO. ;)

LegO = Legacy Outback

:dunce:

Again, thanks for the useful resources.

That's pretty sweet on the Element. 👍 It's not like a massive hole in the roof is weakening the rigidity, either. It only has the best rollover ratings in North America to begin with..

Really, I'm set on the Outback. I adore both the element and the Outback as vehicles, but the outback hits happy receptors that the Element doesn't.

Hark! off for to get loan approvals I be!

^ Credit unions are your best bet. They offer lower interest rate than many banks they offer. :)

Now look...If you're going to buy a car...there is NO better...I repeat NO BETTER the the (drum roll) Daimler Motor Carriage!!!!!! :sly:      86daimlermaybach.jpg

^ The Element has a rear detachable sun/moonroof on LX & EX w/ AWD models only. Mind you that the pass through for the URSA Minor ECAMPER is designed for the 'standard' hole on the Element:

^ This is one of the things I like about the Element. :dopey:

well, a bit of an update.

I was driving Dad's trailblazer to work, and merging into a lane. The guy who had waved me over decided to gun it and force me back left as I was merging to the right. So, I went back left, slammed the brakes, and hit an F-150 at 5-10 miles per hour.

Dad didn't have comp and collision on it, and now he's in a bind as to what to do. The new car deal is off, he would rather pay to fix the Mercedes than to find anything newer.

If I find that bright red Titan, the driver gets kicked in the bollocks. :irked:

Joy. The winner of my replace the Mercedes competition? My Mercedes.

Now I have to replace one of the seatbelts, too. :irked:

Thankfully, and a BIG thankfully, nobody was hurt.

Wow, that really sucks. I've had something similar happen to me before. Definitely very scary.

That's really too bad that you won't be getting a new car. Hopefully you at least like the Merc?
