Highest regularly used display resolution (pissing contest)

It seems to have become a trend ... I'm now taking suggestions (via PM) for additional computer related bragging threads.

Most amazing accomplishment
Oldest functioning computer
Biggest hard drive

So how about it? What's the biggest resolution, 2D and / or 3D, you've ever used on a regular basis? Multi-monitors accepted, any task accepted.

For me, I have lots of angles here.

Single monitor: 20" (viewable) running 1920 x 1440 at 75hz and 32bit color. That's where I'm posting from currently. I have a Dell and a Macintosh connected to it.

Multi monitor: 3x18" each at 1600 x 1200 at 75hz and 32bit color for a total of 4800 x 1200. I used that for about a year before it became unnecessary. Now I need to redeploy the monitors.

In the 3D relm I've not had a chance to mess with multi display much, but I have done 1600 x 1200 and sustained over 45 frames per second in 32bit color. So that's cool.

All of my displays are CRT. For my extra high demands LCD just doesn't cut the mustard.

So what've you guys got?
 
Well our new LCD 17inch Monitor was working at 1280x1024 and 32bit until my mum complained text was too small and mad me change it. :grumpy:
 
We'll be getting a 20" iMac next week, which has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 (big step up from this iBook's 1024 x 768).

I would strongly suggest NOT getting a 20" iMac. You're putting a lot of money into a display that is attached to a computer which will degrade long before the display becomes useless. If you absolutely have to get a 20" display, I would get a Mac Mini and seperate 20". That way you could use the display on a future machine. If you're set on an iMac, get the 17" - that way when it's "done", you're not giving up so much money in the display department.
 
Too late, it was ordered last night. ;) My dad's a "throw-away" kind of person anyway… for example, the 17" CRT that we used with the now-dead G3 (which is why we're buying the iMac) is still working fine, but we'll probably still get rid of it anyway.

Also, my dad's dead-set on getting a G5, so our options are only PowerMac + 20" screen (expensive), or 20" iMac (not as expensive). And by the time the iMac dies, he'll probably want a bigger screen anyway (just like the current 17").

If you want to convince him, go right ahead. :P The only input I had was in convincing him to buy the Bluetooth module. ;)
 
Current.. Gaming rig @ home : 1600x1200@85hz - 19" IBM (rebranded Sony CRT)

Wrrk station @wrrk.. : 1920x1440@85hz - 21" LG...

Laptop : 1600x1200@60Hz - 15" LCD thingy...

HTPC 1 : 720x576@50hz

HTPC 2 : 768x576@50Hz

Uh, I have no clue. ;) It's an old thing from 10 years ago, and weighs about a bajillion tons. I'll PM you though if he's interested in selling it.
 
My LCD here at school has a native resolution of 1600x1200 (20" ViewSonic VP201s- 16ms response time). The CRT I've got at school can do 2048x1536 (19" ViewSonic P95f+) but I only use it to watch TV when I'm doing something else with the LCD (it's 5' away from my desk sitting on my dresser) so it runs 1600x1200 as well...

At home I run 1920x1440 (21" Sony CPD-G520; max. res is 2048x1536 @ 80Hz)

My maximum is 1600x1200 on my 17" CRT, sometimes I will see 1600x1200 in the Settings tab, but usually the maximum in there is 1280x1024.
 
I use 1280x960 normally, sometimes 1600x1200 when i'm 3d modeling. The highest this monitor will go is 2048x1536.

I should be getting an extra monitor soon so I'll be runing dual screens 👍
 
1600x1200 on the oldest 21 inch monitor around. I've had it for about 6 years now.
 
1024*768 @ 100Hz.

I have no need for higher resolutions, no need for smaller ones. It's also the standard resolutions for most of my games.
 
Damn I can't push my monitor past 85Hz. But if I did it would more then likely explode killing me instantly.

I hope you have a CRT monitor. I think LCD's are supposed to run at 60Hz at the highest.

One of the most common “customize my eXperience” questions from Windows XP users is this: Other users on my computer want a different screen resolution than I want. How do we set a different screen resolution for each user?
The answer to this one is really easy: You don’t. Sorry. That’s the way it was designed. And that’s the bottom line of this KB article: Screen resolution remains the same when switching between different user profiles on the same machine. This behavior is by design.

All I know is it's huge, 21 inches and it the size of my TV. I know it's not a LCD, which I want though.

You won't be able to run at 90 or 100Hz if you get an LCD, no matter how good your video card is. A 21in. monitor is neat.
 
I don't really even understand the what the Hz thing is, all I know is it makes things smaller when I screw with it. I'm such a computer reject.

Hz is the refresh rate. That is what damages your eyes. A low refresh rate (60Hz or so) makes the screen flicker more and is what sends you blind. A higher refresh rate of say 85Hz reduces the screen flicker and keeps your eyes in good nic. In fact, if users were more educated about refresh rates, there wouldn't be so much of the whole "sitting in front of a computer makes you blind" fantasy.

The resolution is how many pixels are on the screen at any given time. Higher resolution = more pixels on screen. If you try cramming 1280x1024 pixels into a 17" screen, everything will be tiny. If you set the resolution on a 17" to 800x600, everything would be huge due to the fact it's filling a large screen with a small amount of pixels. That's what your referring to I think.
