Are you sure YLG is still running this challenge? He hasn't even been logged in since September 3rd, and prior to that it was scarce seeing him.

I wouldn't want to see the "1st reserve" driver miss the first round because of a driver who isn't going to compete. ;)

yourlocalgod isn't running this series - i am.

Although i did take inspiration from his 'SCCA SWCTC' series ;)

You misunderstand. Is he running in this series?

The standard word in the GT OL Commnity for what you are doing is adminning the series.

So, no answer to my question yet :)

Ahhh! i see what you mean - like you stated, he's not been around for a while and probably won't be for some time. If there are no seats available in time for the start of the 1st round then i'll let the reserve take YLC's seat. As it stands there are already 2-3 seats that will be available, i just need to update the original post.

It will be a shame to see you go. Looking at how other series seem to diminish in grid size as the season goes, i think when i post details for the next weeks race I'll also post a list (hopefully short list) of all the available 'seats' - If you fancy doing the odd round then the more the merrier. :) - Points will be awarded to drivers not teams, so if someone races 2 or 3 different cars throughout the season it will be ok.

goixoye - i guess the Shelby is yours if you want.

I'll gladly take a part time/reserve spot and race when I can.

Anyway at Laguna Seca, Shelby in HTAS trim (275HP) , 8 laps, Difficulty 5, 146 pt. Race. I won!!! 14'06.883.
I re-ran this race. I felt like my driving may have been a little rough.

I turned on the 'speed limiter" penalty just MAKE myself drive properly. I guess I developed an aggressive driving style in the game because most of time you can get away with it. Because of this I adjuested the Difficulty to 4, 124 pt. race. Still a little contact...but most of it was the AI drivers. I won, 14'08.950. So about 2 seconds slower but I felt I drove better. I passed the Corvette Grand Sport at the tail end of lap 4...out braked him at the turn just before the pit entrance. He finished 2nd by 1.536s so still a close race. It seems that the AI drivers' tires come to life at about 4 laps and they really start driving better...if I'm not around them by then, I'm probably not going to get around them. 1 or 2 more laps would have made it very very interesting. 3 or 4, I might have lost. 5 or 6 and I suspect I would've had to pitted and maybe the AI would not have?

I'm going to race on Difficulty 4, with the "speed limiter" (10 second!) penalty to make myself be more patient and clean. This combination should allow me to win my race, while still providing an exciting experience. I would recommend everybody use the "speed limiter" penalty. It looks like it's leanient enough not to cause problems due to incidental AI contact. The other penalty "forced pit entry" basically does what it says and forces a trip down pit lane without stopping...more of a real world penalty for "rough driving" I suppose. The difference for the penalties would be: pit - in any given lap you could hammer the opposition as many times as you wanted with I suspect just 1 penalty for the lap; speed limiter - you're penalized for each infraction.

Just my thoughts and opinions.

Shelby - Infineon, Stock Car Course (after 10 laps)

T1: 23.285
T2: 48.460
Final: 1'27.017

So about 2.4 secs better than I was in the Alfa GTA

@The Cracker: Would it be at all possible to make the deadline during the week sometime, as I unfortunately I can't go online until my line is fixed up. If it is a problem, I will have to find a way to submit on the weekend or Friday morning South African time (GMT +2). :indiff:

Be that as it may, I'm still 100% there and really looking forward to it.

@Goixoye: What happens when you touch the AI with the "speed limiter" penalty on? Does it slow you down for a pre-determined time or...

"Incidental" contact (a little rubbing) didn't cause any penalty...a good tap to somebody's rear end resulted in a 10 sec penalty where you were limited to 20 or 30 mph or so (if you hint someone at full tilt your speed doesn't suddenly drop...it's more like someone hits the clutch for 10 seconds). I'm not sure exactly where GT4 draws the line for assessing the penalty but not all contact resulted in the penalty. Most if not all of the contact in my race occured where I out braked the AI to a corner and tried to squeeze in and the AI moved over into me. I'm not sure if you'd get a penalty if the AI smacked you in the rear end? It might be worth a little testing to find out before race day. I think the key would be to drive as if any contact by you or to you was penalized and you should be OK...that was my experience with this particalur race...

I'm sure the AI drive with "Blinkers" on as I am possitive we've all had the experience of overtaking them properly, and then have them drive into your door. Luckily we don't have to pay for the damages or I'd have something to say. :D

Thanks for the info, will give it a try. 👍

The penalty only comes on if there is contact between any part of the AI car, and the front half of your car. You can swing the back end of your car into the AI or into a wall as hard as you like, without any penalty. Give it a go :p

Unfortunately, if the AI touches the front half of your car at all, for any reason ... penalty. If he drives directly into the side of you ... penalty for you. This means you'll have to drive very defensively and make sure the AI can't get inside of you in a turn.

Thanks Luxy.....good to know. I still think I'll use it. It makes me drive more like I would if I was in MY car out there...wanting to win but not bad enough to damage the car.

Drive it like its yours - this is the mind-set you need with OLR racing.

I respectfuly disagree. I just ran a race and the AI was all over the front half (sides) of my car and the contact didn't draw the penalty. Not sure where the line is drawn but it seems to be more lenient than you've indicated.

Fair enough :p My comment was based on my experiences in the Special Conditions Hall ... maybe the criteria for the penalty is different in Arcade Mode?

Cracker,
You may want to update your regulations to include the "mild" tire wear setting and possibly any final thoughts on "penalty" and "difficulty" settings. Initially you indicated highest difficulty setting but it seems you may be flexible on that. Also I'm not sure that you've indicated any official ruling on whether or not we're required to use any "penalty" setting.

Just ran an extended set in the Charger R/T. Whew... wrestling that beast around Sears Point ( I refuse to call it Infineon) is a chore. Even with mild tire wear I was consistantly in the 1' 27s with a couple of good laps in a little quicker. Understeer was the biggest challenge, even more so than the tire spin. Ran with difficulty set at 10, finished 5th almost passing the SL55 AMG in the final two corners. Tire wear at mild looks to be a good realistic setup, I used 50 to 60% of my tires in the 8 lap run.

Looks to be a fun series, good luck to all.

Damn. Looks like I missed the warmup. I didn't find this thread till a few hours ago.
Mabye I'll practise up tomorrow. I haven't been playing any GT4 lately.

Any tabulated results from the warm-up? I sent mine in a couple of days ago. Just wondering what's going on.

HTAS Warm-Up Time = 11'53.952

Car: Shelby Mustang GT350R
Infineon: Stock Car Course, 8 Laps
Difficulty: 4
Tire Wear: Mild
Penalty: Speed Limiter
Points: 127

I placed 2nd in the race. 5.224 behind a Ruf 3400S (Porsche Boxster). No penalties. Made a few driving errors trying to push the car too hard. Great fun!

After the initial race I re-ran it 2 or 3 times...It just didn't settle well with me finishing 2nd. When I finally did win the race my time was 11'55.748, about 2s slower. The Ruf was 2nd by .3, right on my tail. I guess having that rabbit out in front to chase made all the difference. I was surprised the time was slower. I felt my driving was more precise...it had to be to get past the Ruf. Maybe I got too cautious out front wanting to make sure I stayed ahead and won the race.

Looks like compared to the Cougar, the Shelby needs a little less HP and a little more weight? Or maybe a lower grade of tire?

No, it looks like your car is just great as it is ….. my time includes one mild and two big accidents induced by the Ai that cost me dearly, without them the Cougar would have been close to Mustang

Next time I will repeat it until I get a clean run just like you did to make a fair comparison.

Sometimes a lap might feel messy it can turn out to be quicker. I know my quickest lap was pretty messy and I was certainly surprised when I saw the time.

I was waiting to post the results once i got a few more entries - but i only got a few, which doesn't look good for the series. I'll post them up a little later today. I think the dead-line for the 1st round will now be Sunday Oct 9th.

I did manage to do my run, but will only be able to post my time early tomorrow, as I left my house in a bit of a rush this morning.

Later 👍

You may ought to re-run this race anyway...I believe at least part of the purpose of the warm-up was to check how close the cars are. I hope I didn't break any rules by submitting my first time but retrying the race until I actually finished 1st.

I've got a request, Cracker.
Could you extend the practise until Wednesday? I have been busy all weekend and have to eat/do homework/ go to work in the next few hours here.
I have a much more slack schedule on Wednesday, and should hopefully be able to make the practise if you extend it.

I'll collate and post all the results on Thursday. 👍

Since it looks as if not many have run the warm-up, if anyone wants to try out other cars and get some data it will be very much appreciated.

Unfortunatatly i've started this series at a time when i'm busy at work, its not giving me much time to either update this thread or 'market' the series.

No worries mate, I think that once we start racing proper, it will turn out to be a Cracker of a series! :D

Total Time: 11'47.021

Car: Barracuda
Infineon: Stock Car Course, 8 Laps
Difficulty: 6

Finished 2nd, 23.191 seconds behind the concept Nissan GT-R

Here is a quick run down of my warm up at Infineon Stock Car Circuit:

Car: Alfa Romeo GTA (RED)
Laps: 8
AI: +6
Tyre Wear: Mild
Penalty: Time Penalty
Time: 12'24.785

I could definately have gone quicker, but had to 2 rather large offs together with some real bad driving from me. :grumpy:

First issue was on Lap 1 at turn 10 (fast right hand sweep before hairpin) where the AI in P3 went a little wide and got 2 tyres onto the dirt. The AI then came back onto the circuit, T-Boning me in the left rear door and spinning me off into the grass. I eventually came to a stop just short of the concrete wall :scared: , relegating me back to 6th position.

By Lap 3, and lapping in the 1'31's, I eventually passed all the AI except for P1. I passed P1 on lap 4 going through the left-right combo before the Sports Car Course turns off. In my haste to get away from him/her (being politically correct here, you never know :D) , I ran wide into turn 10, which sent me farming into the sticks again, with a rather large concrete wall approaching me and "Little Red Riding Hood" at break neck speed. With nerves of steel (and soiled underwear), I managed to gain enough control to pull it back onto the black stuff before the race was red flagged and an ambulance with life support was called. :scared: The brain fade on my part  , helped me loose oodles of time and my first postion. :grumpy:

The good news is that I did manage to overtake P1 again, on lap 5, with a copy cat move of the previous lap. This time I managed to stay there the rest of the race and took gold by some distance.

To sum up, I only ran this once, but am considering re-doing it at a later stage with AI prehaps on +10 to get them out of my hair in the first half of the race so I can pick them off one by one.

I did find that, although the penalty setting was "activated", it really was not needed. I also noticed that there was no way that I could match my "hot lap" done in time-trial mode, probably due to lack of tyre wear and almost no fuel. :D
Lastly, my tyres were still green at the chequered flag. 👍

My apologies for rambling on, so gonna stop here.

Good luck all, see ya's later. 👍
