Tuner or Racer?

Given the Circumstances, I'd call the HKS a tuner;

Race cars compete against each other with everyone present on the track.

The HKS does compete against others, but the opponents are not present on the track when competing.

Therefore, the HKS is not a "race car".

aaaaaaaaaaargggg.......
this is not true. Period

one question for you: How do you call a Pagani Zonda R?

some explenations of the words tuning and racing:

tuning:
Car tuning is both an industry and a hobby, in which an automobile, motor bike, scooter or moped is modified in order to improve its performance, handling and presentation and improve the owner's driving style. As most vehicles leave the factory set up for average driver expectations and average conditions, tuning has become a way to personalize the characteristics of the vehicle to the owner's preference. For example, they may be altered to provide better fuel economy, produce more power at high RPM or the ride comfort may be sacrificed to provide better handling.

Car tuning is related to auto racing, although most performance cars never compete. Rather they are built for the pleasure of owning and driving such a vehicle. Another major facet of tuning includes performance modification to the car exterior. This includes changing the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle via side skirts, front and rear bumpers, adding spoilers, splitters, air vents and light weight wheels.

racecar:
is a car that is adapted or equipped for the practice of racing.
(because a car doesn't meet regulations for racing series it doesn't mean it's not a race-car.)

different types of racing:
a race can be held against more cars or against the clock. it doesn't make a difference
Rally or time-attack battles are a form of racing.

The big difference between tuner cars and race cars is that race cars are focussed or designed with the intention to compete in racing events. Tuner cars are not although you can use a tuner car to race it doesn't make it a racing car. The HKS-car in GT5 is designed to attack times on circuits... so that's why it's primarely a racing car, although it's build by a tuning company
