Finally after HKS's World's Fastest GT-R record (7.67) being beaten they have brung the Multi-coloured car out of retirement:tup: to match race the new record holder Reece McGregor (7.57) at Import All-Stars on the 17th of Febuary 2007 Cant wait for this, the two fastest GT-R's facing off against each other. SWEET!!!!!!

This gotta be the mother of all GTR drag racing!!!!!!!!!!!! Where exactly is gonna be held? in New Zealand, Australia or japan? My votes goes off to HKS, as its been what since 2002 since HKS brought thier GTR to Australia and ran it. Reeces car is mighty impressive as i've seen the specs, only running a big Hks turbo (T51 R SPL) + methonal fuel = 900KW(1242HP) = 7second pass.
(Why do NewZealanders prefer Single Turbos?)
Where as HKS R33 Runs a Twin Turbo setup (GT3040)
Both cars are very promising, this is a once in life time, Not to miss.👍

It's being held in Taupo, New Zealand.

Hehehe, it's no longer a T51R but a Garrett turbo, and has much, much, much much much more then 900kw :p

I'm pretty sure that 7sec drag race cars have more like 2000 horsepower. I remember seeing a Mustang 5.0 that ran 7.8s, and it was pushing 2200hp from some V8.

Depends on the tires each car are running, how light the car is, even track conditions and weather could affect the run. Of course, who knows... (by the way I'm not a drag guy, so don't bite my head off if this is the stupidest post you've ever seen.)

Kind of reminds me that the IHRA had proposed rules to accept turbocharged and supercharged import platforms into Pro Mod competition in order to give Pro RWD import/sport compact competitors like Justin Humphreys a place to race.

These cars, quite probably, would've been accepted as well.

I am looking forward to this, it's going to be hard for HKS as Reece has soo much power and speed, I have no doubt Reece could beat its 7.57 run.

I doubt HKS will challange them unprepared though so it should be awesome.

There has been a new driver announced to drive the HKS GT-R: Andre Simon of Speedtech fame and driver of the TSW/Weltec Mitsubishi Lancer EVO III (8.23 @289kph)

Buy me tickets. and Plane tickets, out of Peoria Regional airport.

(Just checked Orbitz: It'd cost me about $2,000 to get there and back, and, I'm not even sure I'd make it to the race!)

Reece McGregors car will definately go faster, seen the videos of his 7 sec runs and the car doesnt even go in a straight line, scrabbles up the strip.....

But considering the HKS Car set the record 5 (I think) years ago and only recently has everyone else caught up, HKS will have a few more tricks up their sleeve hopefully

Hopefully the HKS Drag R33/180SX will return for GT5 aswell as their V8 Supra :) (and a proper drag mode too)

The Heat Treatments GT-R may go quicker but I dont think he has had much time on the new Taupo strip so it will be a venture into the unknown for both cars.

Bollocks. I suppose it's pretty justifiable though, that R33 isn't exactly going to be in the best running condition after all these years.

They're just scared they'd lose though.

BOOOOO! what BS, even if that R33 is structually weak another R33 shell would have been easy enough to build. (They would have known about this a long time ago)

I personally think they know Reeces R32 as so much extra potential they would lose without more time and money for development.

well, I guess HKS is just gonna have to build up something else if they really want the record back. the new GT-R?

Never know maybe, but that would be along way off yet.

The reasons given in the press release are rubbish, theres quite a lot of politics behind this...

Politics.... Its always about the politics... and we are the ones to lose out :(

Chicken

But why is HKS USA making the decsion?(sp) Doesnt HKS Japan own and operate the car.

If this is true then it's a sad day in the world of import drag racing

R.I.P HKS R33 GT-R :(

Dude that sucks but I can see where there are coming......WAIT they said that the manufacturer of the car did make parts for it?!? CAN"T THEY MAKE THEM!?!?....Grr this sucks.

I also thought chicken but apparently thats not the case, politics.

Part of the politics....

WAIT they said that the manufacturer of the car did make parts for it?!? CAN"T THEY MAKE THEM!?!?....Grr this shucks.

Cover story

Well Nissan did make the car originally and many of the parts are still Nissan parts but anyway you can still buy 99% of the parts still new from Nissan for R33's. (I have learn't from personal expericence)
