What a useless product.

The best set-up for using the controller is to set R2 for gas, L2 for brake and L1/R1 for down/upshift. This way you can really manipulate the throttle and use gas+brake if need be.

i use the right analog stick for shifting up and down. my r1 is the handbreak and l1 is reverse. but i will agree with you about l2 and r2 being best for gas and break but disagree with the rest.

That doesn't help with the steering. The wheel on this controller is many times better than an analog stick.

As for the shoulder buttons as gas/brake, I'll never get used to using them. Sure, you've got more sensitivity, but using the left hand for brake and the right hand for accelerator is just completely wrong after so many years of driving real cars, and video game ones, with my right foot/hand and steering with the left. Different sides of the brain control the different sides of the body, so it's a pretty radical difference. To me, it's as bad as using a pedal setup where I'm forced to brake with my left foot. I also appreciate the fact that I'm not forced to brake and steer with the same hand.

ack that's disappointing :(

Ive kept to the Gran Turismo Controller layout since the beginning. As for R2/L2 Accel./Brake? Thats a new thing. And a fail really... Midnight Club LA Had a really good layout in a way. With the R2/L2 Rotating the camera, both down for rear view, i'd Like GT to do THAT, with the 1's for gear shifting, and ditch the doubles on X and that lot, so everything will fit. This is my next challenge of its menu screens.

While HKS has a long and storied history of automotive awesomeness, I think this is a gimmick. I'd stick with my DFGT. If you can save up money for that controller, you can save a little more for a wheel...and it'll be more than worth it.

This controller isn't really about money so much as space, though. I've got a DFP myself, but haven't bothered to bring it to my apartment because there's nowhere to set it up.

I was gonna try it, but might as well spend 50 more and get a logitech driving force GT wheel since its on sale at Best Buy for 99.99!! I got one yesterday.

I have 1 and love it... I also have a DFGT, so I speak from the point of using all 3 types of controllers.

You can't rotate the steering wheel away from the 45 position, but honestly... there's no need. They nailed the positioning. I know it seems like it should go straight across to be literally, "left and right" but once you get your hands on the controller you'll see that it feels completely natural at the angle they have it.

I have a DFGT and love it... but it can be a pain in the ass to set up in the living room, the wife can sometimes complain, so I find the HKS controller to be a great middle ground... far better than a normal DS3 in terms of functionality. I have noticed that the analog controls aren't quite fully analog... the pedals aren't quite as sensitive as they should be... meaning I have the pedal only pressed 50% but its giving the game 100% throttle.

The only change I made to the button layout, was to configure R2 as e-brake...i leave it that way all the time, so I can go from grip to drift racing seamlessly.
