Okay here we go, now that HL2 is out and we have all gotten a chance to beat it I want to know what you all think about it compared to Doom3. I'm really get at Graphics and physics engines. I personally feel that Doom3 is a way better made game althought I like HL2's story much more. Graphics is a toss up. My computer can run Doom and HL on highest but for some reason I get some fuzz on my screen in HL, kinda like my graphics card is heating up to much. Anyway I have to go with Doom3 on graphics and physics, despite gamespots opinion. What do you guys think.

My computer can't run neither at high.:( So im gonna wait for both to come out on the X-Box but seeing vids of both of them they both look very great!

Started HL2 tonight, have played 4-5 hours - and I'm in the boat with the other HL2 turds... I like it a lot more than I did D3.. I'll add some more answers to why when I get out of bed again...

I do miss the tranquility of the sunny beaches in Far Cry though...

I like HL2 a damn lot more than D3, I have everything cranked up full and it runs smooooth, thanks to my X800XT ;)

Well, I like HL2 more than D3 so far. Mainly because I haven't been able to predict what would happen next. I.E. in D3 you could almost predict what would be a trap. I'm also in the boat right now in HL2. It seems to take up too much of the game, IMO. Graphicswise, HL2 is a beauty. However, I bumped up my resolution from 800 x 600(what the game set it to) to 1024 x 768 and I notice that the game seems to studder every once in awhile. I may knock it back down.

Right, Im not saying that HL2 isn't a better game in the story line and actual feel but regardes to graphics a physics I feel that D3 nailed it home. I have more experence with the new D3 engine (being that I created about 6 mods and I am building a supermod that takes the best of a recent few. I don't know what the HL2 source is like yet being that I haven't beaten the game yet and I always wait unitl I beat a game before I starting messing around with creating stuff. Anyway D3 engine seems to have so much more potential that the HL2 engine. I have heard that you really dont that the freedom that you do with the creator software that Id included in the game. I just want a little feedback on what you guys feel.

I will buy Doom 3 for the X-box when it comes out 1/4/05. After that I will post my review and comparison between the 2 games.
Edit they just moved the release date again. 2/1/05 👎

Half-Life 2 all the way. It has more depth and creativity than Doom 3. The entire Doom series is kind of rediculous and their delivery was irritating to some.

Half-Life ... it's just good fun.

Well I'm a Doom fanboy and my love for it and none other tends to be very irrational so I won't post about it anymore.

Eh, Doom is tired. It needs to be put to rest. Quake would be cool if they got back to the roots of it.

Half-Life is just so involved. I loved playing the first one - beat it on the hardest setting. It was just so much fun.

hey t100, what city are you in? (actually fort lauderdale?)

i feel like this year in gaming has been deprived of so much....and now that it's the holiday season, everything that wasnt there throughout the year is all of a sudden being shoved down our throats.

so many games.....so little time.

i havent even gotten my hands on HL2, and steam pisses me off a lot....or at least it did with counterstrike condition zero. i still haven't beaten doom3 due to rome total war either.

I liked Doom 3 better. Run and gun is my kinda style, and the graphics are more rewarding i think (human remains splattered over a dark corner are just so beautiful!).

The only problem i see with Doom 3 is, like stated before, all the levels on the Mars base are really repetative. Hell, however, is excellent.

I hated Doom 3. It was all eye candy to me. There was no physics, no gameplay, no creativity, and it didn't give me that feeling of wanting to play more. It was the same hallway everytime with the same scripted monsters. Besides, I didn't feel like dropping $400 on an x800 so I could play it at reasonable settings.

Half Life 2 is everything Doom 3 should have been. The physics and interaction have brought a new level to gaming, the graphics are top notch and are alot more forgiving than Dooms. Amazing replay value, and many other things I could kiss ass too.

half life 2 > doom 3 in my books

Seems like everywhere I go I hear that Half Life 2 is the ultimate. I was on a car site today and out of no where someone started talking about HL2. I might have to check this out. Not like I dont already have to many games to play as it is!! :scared:

I haven't played either but I've been a Doom fan since I was a little kid. I'll get back to you fellas at a later date.

Half Life 2 is better then Doom 3.Simple as that.Doom 3 was fun while it lasted but i think the game was too long and got repetitive wich is what Half Life 2 isn't and won't become. The physics in Half Life 2 are truly awesome and it makes for so much possibilities on how to play the game,it's astonihing.

This is strange, because all my expectations on HL2 vanished when i started to play WoW! Believe me, i was eager to play it earlier, but most of it flew away when i tasted WoW!

Oh, ehh forgot.. I'd pick HL2 over Doom3 any day!

Finally got my copy of HL2 yesterday. 5 hours later, I have to say that it's a lot easier for this ole geezer to play. I have both D3 and HL2 running on my 60" GW at 1304x734 res. Both games are pretty and fun to look at, but HL2 seems to be more about playing and having fun with the physics then D3 will ever do. D3 is just so dark and begins to get monotonous. That's why I can only play a couple of hours at a time before I get burnt out on D3. The way in which you can interact with the environment in HL2 is huge! The graphics are just as good, but take waaaay less resources to play. HL2 also supports 16:9 aspect ratios, kudos’ for that one, and puzzles are back to how they should have been 15 years ago. There seems to be no physical limits to the engine. They are getting really close to where we've all wanted to see games get in terms of technology and realism. I also think that valve has done an outstanding job in making it compatible with older technologies as well so as not to leave out the guy with a Radeon 7000 or a gForce MX400 running DX7. :-)

Now if they just finish the Day of Defeat: Source.
