Holden is now offering the brand new Chevrolet 4th Generation V8 (L76 6.0Litre) in its range of Commodores/Calais/Belinas/Statesmans, reading up I have read that Holden is the first to offer the the L76 engine in their cars, it replaces the LS1.

January 2006 brings changes to engines to comply with the strict Euro 3 (ADR 79/01) emissions regulations. All vehicles built from the 1 January 2006 must comply with these new regulations. The main change is the introduction of the Gen IV 6.0L V8, known as the L76. This V8 replaces all current variants of the Gen III 5.7L (LS1) V8 used by Holden. Note that Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) will continue to use the LS2 variant of the Gen IV. The L76 is rated at 260kW and 510Nm.

For more detailed information.

It’s about time. We’ve been waiting for this engine for years.

Hopefully Holden wont have the oil drinking, piston slapping problems they had with the LS1.

You use the old EU emission standards down there? Local auto-media had an article about a new Mitsubishi recently (or to be) released, and laughed at how Mitsubishi boasted the car could meet Euro3 standards, which was phased out (here) in '04. I see why Mitsubishi came with that statement now.

FYI, Euro4 was phased in here last year, and is planned to be phased out next year, replaced with, *gasp*, Euro5.

So 349 Horsepower and 376lb-ft of toque on a V8 we wont get in the US? My interest is peaked... So is this closer to the LQ9 or to the LS2?

Nice, now they gotta mke the impala rwd and we got ourselves a competitor against the 300C/Charger/Magnum and just think of the Police package that'd be! We'd have ourselves another Chevy Caprice 9C1!!

Im 99% sure the engine will be sold in the US sometime in the near future, our Zeta based Commodores will also be getting it so I expect that the other's probably will too (like the upcoming Camaro etc).

It is a Aluminum engine, so probably more like the LS2.

Well, the word is that the formerly canceled Zeta platform that will underpin the next-gen Commodore/Monaro is also going to be underneath the next Impala and Camaro here in the US. Effectively called "Zeta lite", although they are going to go onto Chevrolets, there may also be a Buick full-size sedan in RWD, and the slightest of slight possibility that Pontiac could do a Firebird.

To summarize: YES, THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A RWD IMPALA AND CAMARO COMMING IN 2008 AS A 2009, OR SHORTLY THEREAFTER...

BTW: I found out that the Avalanche will be getting a new 6.0L V8 this year with 355HP. Could it be the L76?
