Holding gears ....

In Gt4 I remember if you pressed the gear shift button you could hold that gear and the car won't shift, this doesn't seem to work in GT5P though , is there a way to activate it ?

To put it bluntly, yes, there is a way to control the shifting. It's called manual transmission.

maybe in full release of GT5 there will be such an option.. but its not relly that much worth it.. get a manual transmission.. its hard to get use to at first. but then you really get into it and makes game so much more enjoyable

Honestly! WHY, would anyone be using auto gears?

Using manual gears is FASTER, easier to control, more predictable, FASTER and Hmmmm........just plain FASTER!

Though I have always used manual (now with clutch in GT5P) I can understand not everyone can or wants to, I'm sure he has seen all the manual preaching before.

If you can't hold gears in the auto in GT5P, I doubt you will be able to in the full GT5, but you never know.

Is reverse in prologue on shifter (H-mode + sequential) or triangle as always? That is nightmare in older GTs, because when I spin out, I lose many seconds finding the button on my angled steering wheel.

manuals bother you? trust me practice practice practice... after a day or 2 it will come very natural and bother free..

I drive a manual in real-life and GT5P (DF), but I wonder if using the paddles will yield quicker lap times than the stick with a G25 setup. (Don't have G25 yet but, I will)

i dont have GT5P but i do play few racing SIM PC games.. and with my G25 i use the H setup for the enjoyment of each car.. but i use paddles to get a quicker lap time... i think for me its a bit faster to use the paddles since i can always get a perfect down shift... using the H box is not offsetting me that much but its always that extra 1/4 of a second to change a gear.

but usually whenever i play online, and car is standard with H box, i use the H box... if the car is sequential i use the paddles.. its not really offseting me that much ,,, but using the paddles do make you go faster.. thats y most of racing cars do have them

Nope, I can get slighty quicker shifts using the shifter, unless the car is a fast shifting paddle shifter in real life (F430, R35GTR etc, which I don't think clutch works on anyway). If you drive a normal manual car using the paddles the game does 'auto clutches' for you, when you shift you can dump the clutch faster.

I have noticed this a lot when I was playing online with the R34 Skyline GTR, I always manage to pull on the other GTR's on shifts because I was using the clutch and quick shifting while the other players were using another wheel or sixaxis and the game 'auto clutched' for them.
