Natalie Portman has them all beat, hands down and tied behind their backs. She's not even attractive enough to make up for anything. And yes, I'm going to get the nervous smilie from A6M5 for this.

 As soon as I saw "Duke"! next to the thread title, I already knew what was in it. :D

She cannot REALLY act, but even though she is not great looking, a super tight white outfit she wears makes up for it ! Those who know, know what outfit I am talking about !

I know, Natalies not a stunner but I still would. She's on the right side of average.

grrr.... freaking Russel Crowe. Gladiator and master And commander were good, but A buetiful mind was a TERRIBLE movie...
I thought A Beautiful Mind was great! So, it wasn't an action movie? It's about a mathematician, for Pete's sake. I have nothing against Russel Crowe at all; I think he's a very solid performer. And I wouldn't mind waking up looking like that, either.

Now that the Hollywood love affair with Kostner is over, I'm wondering what the world saw in him. He's like a bad copy of Harrison Ford with half the brains, talent, and looks.

He's good in more films than he's bad in I think.

He's Welsh. :D Also extremely good in "The Machinist".

I would say that Will Smith is highly overrated. Not that I don't enjoy a lot of his performances.
I bought that DVD last night. Watched about an hour of it. Awesome movie. I've really liked Bale since the "American Psyco". My hats off to him for the preparation he took for this film. He could've easily died, I think. :nervous:

I think he's an brilliant actor. I thought the "Gladiator", "Proof of Life" were just OK. But have you seen him in "L.A. Confidential" or "The Insider"? Two greatest films he's done IMO. I liked the "Master and Commander" like you did and didn't like the "Beautiful Mind" either. BORING.

jamaican
and i don't really like Wil Smith :grumpy:
Only film I liked him in was the Enemy of the State.

Nicolas Cage - In Gone in 60 Seconds there was some truly cringeworthy acting. When he does that jump (yeah nothing to do with bad acting) and then does that lame head shake thing....uggh. And need I utter the words, 'It's your call officer'

Jennifer Lopez - Oh. Dear. God.

That movie was abysmal, I couldn't finish watching it. I know it wasn't an action movie, I wasn't expecting an action movie, I was expecting something interesting.
I don't think he's a really great actor, but I don't think he's really awful either.
I really can't stand Halle Berry though.

edit: Oh, hey, look what I just found/made.

There's no good reason for this to be funny. It is though.

In order to be over-rated you have to be highly rated, which Tom Cruise is not. He's not considered an A list actor, he's a super star and has been in some great flicks, but his acting isn't what people point to. He was plenty good in minority report, a few good men... pretty much anything he's been in. Ben Affleck is rated pretty low these days so I'm not going to include him.

Samuel L. Jackson (very highly rated, but not very good)
Natalie Portman (gotta agree with Duke, and she's gotten a LOT of acting credit)
Halle Barry (she won the oscar right?)
Liv Tyler
Jennifer Lopez
Julia Roberts
Nicholas Cage
Sean Penn
Denzel Washington
Gwyneth Paltro
Cameron Diaz

Under Rated
Christian Bale (though that may not be for long)
Gary Oldman (he's that good, so good that even with all the credit he gets - he's better)
Bill Murray
Johnny Depp
Keanu Reeves (he's a decent actor - not great, but nobody thinks he can act at all)
Jim Carrey

I agree with all of the "underrated". I finally finished watching "The Machinist", it was VERY good. And you're so right about Gary Oldman. 👍 Only thing that baffles me about the list is Sam Jackson in "overrated" list?. I've been impressed by Julia Roberts too lately. She's not an bad actor, a real natural.

Tom Cruise is not. He's not considered an A list actor,

Are you kidding? Tom Cruise is the pinnacle of the A list - isn't he currently the highest payed actor around, at somewhere around 25 million a picture?

Jim Carrey

I agree totally - he really impressed me in "Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind".

I'm going to elect Julia Roberts for overrated, and Leonardo DeCaprio for underrated.

VIPFREAK
Yes, Tom Cruise period.
Why are you Americans obsessed with periods???

Oh and he is not Hollywood but close, Daniel Radcliff, he is irritating both on screen and off. He is stuck up and conceited. One of the very few people I both know AND despise!

Duke

What! - did she bully you at school or something? ;)

She's a great actress, apart from SW, but nobody acts in SW - blame the director.

And she's easy-on-the-eye.

Gary Oldman - plays the same old psycho in every film.

Gary Oldmans a top actor, he plays dark and evil people best, but he's not always a bad guy.

Yes, one needs to go aaaaaaall the way back to Batman Begins to find a movie where he doesn't play the same old pyscho.

He's not getting paid for his acting ability.

Julia Roberts
Denzel Washington

You must have lurrrrved "The Pelican Brief"

I HAD forgotten how appalling Julia Roberts is. Any film where she's an object of lust is hamstrung from the start.

Don't remind me.

I hadn't really thought about it but you're right. I think one of the only movies I've seen that successfully survives her is Ocean's 11.

Famine
Oh pur-lease. Speaking of which, "I'M THE PO-LEESE"... Awful.

I've never seen Denzel in any film where he's actually any good. The Bone Collector - appalling. That one with Virtual Reality (Virtuosity?) - worst film evAh. The Siege? Acted off screen by Bruce Willis!

And he won an Oscar! An Oscar!

Uh, have you not seen Glory? Sorry, but he was good in Glory and in Training Day. Not to mention Philidelphia and Man of Fire(already mentioned).

Denzel is an incredible actor, but he sometimes takes parts that are not good for his style.

Renee Zelwigger(sp) Why is she in movies at all! She's not cute, she's predictable and just blah.

She mauled Ocean's 12. Man, I've never seen her look so nasty. She looked better in Erin Brockavich where she was trailer trash. Amazing how that works huh?

Underated should have Chloë Sevigny included
and I agree Leonardo DiCaprio is way under rated

and if you think Natalie Portman is over rated then watch The Professional (aka Leon)

oh and no I WOULD NOT :) her voice is like fingenails on a chalkboard

BEN STILLER

I hate the guy, I don't like any of his jokes, yet he comes up with so many new movies and people love it. His humor isn't funny to me.
