Last week I built a new computer for myself. However, I'm having great difficulty getting it to be able to see other computers on the network, and share files/folders and printers.

Currently. I have 4 computers connected via a NetComm ADSL Modem/Router. All are running either XP Home or Pro. The old 3 can see each other and share stuff.

I've set all 4 on the same Workgroup 'Home'. All have TCP/IP, File And Printer Sharing, Etc Protocols enabled and set.

When I try to enter the 'Home' Network in my network places I get this message.

Other computers in the network can at least see this computer. But can't see anything I share for more or less the same reason above.

I've set the Local Security so it should work. But for some reason it still doesn't.

Any ideas?!

Tried the steps in that link. It doesn't work. It says the network path can not be found.

Which is really odd, because I can ping that computer successfully.

Ok so instead of making a new thread I used this thread because it does have to do with network issues, and well here's my question.

I just finished setting up a new laptop to use our wireless home network. Well after that I looked at the Microsoft Help thingy and it showed that in the firewall settings you can turn this feature on...well i did it, but nothing yet. So I decided to add a printer and it had this feature, but here's what I get

well I have the no clue as to what this means. I looked in the folder of the printer...and there's nothing for a server. So my question is this...

How do you add a printer wirelessly to a laptop?? do I need any special equipment or software??? please help. thanks!

From what it looks like in that screenie you already have a printer installed, is that the same printer that you're trying to install by any chance?

If not, when you browse for a printer, follow the links through to the Microsoft Windows Network -> Your Workgroup Name -> Name of the computer the printer is attached to -> Name of printer.

*Note:

The computer the printer is attached to and the printer itself MUST be turned on. Also, if you have anything such as Norton Internet Security installed, which judging by the screenie you have Zone Alarm (I don't know how ZA handles this activity), or any other software firewall installed on your computer you MUST disable it in order for you to be able to connect to the printer during installation and to be able to print anything on that printer.

Is the printer wireless?

Not really, but I've seen people print using a wireless home network and I was wondering if I was able to do that, and VTGT07 actually laid it out simple and it now works! so thanks!! really was a big help!
