Home Networking Problem

As a general supporter of hard line when possible, I developed a conundrum about 20 minutes prior to post over a CES product preview that I saw on youtube about a new modem/router.

My living situation is that I live in a small apartment off the main house on the property with the main internet connection in the main house. I run multiple devices on wifi (three Rokus, one laptop, one desktop and multiple cell phones), and I would like to cut down on the number devices that are connected on wireless (primarily the one roku and my desktop that is sitting in my apartment.)

I do have access to a cable line in my apartment, so I can install a pretty cheap modem, but I don't want the rest of the houses to feel left out in any upgrades that I might do to the house, hence why I am seriously considering spending the $300 in getting this upcoming modem/router (seen in the video below) from ASUS.

My overall goal is to "future-proof" my home network while connecting my one roku and my PC to a hard line. Any advice?

Powerline Adapter?

How is that router going to cut down on the amount of wireless devices you have?

How far between the apartment and main house are you?

What about burying a cat5/6 line in the ground between the two building, bringing the line into your apt, putting in a simple switch to hard-wire the devices you want.

If possible, this is your best bet.

From wall to wall about 10 feet. To reasonably connect my devices, I think that I would need about 200 feet in two 100 feet lines since the roku is actually in a different room than my PC.

I love the ubiquiti unifi - which is a device that hardwires into your switch and broadcasts your wifi signal elsewhere. I use it to provide a lagless overlap of my wifi network to the end of my house that my router won't reach. It's not a repeater, so it doesn't suck. If I had it all to do exactly the way I wanted, I would not get a wireless router. I'd get a wired router that did nothing but route extremely well, and then put everything else to a switch (or 5) under the router. The ubiquiti style access points then get wired into the switches and placed where you want them for maximum coverage.

There's a 5ghz version as well I believe so that you can avoid congestion on the lower band.

Here's what my network looks like:

I wouldn't know the first thing in that. Any idea as to where to buy one?
