Where do people mostly work out? :barbell:

I tend to work at home :home: on the Multi-Gym, as it is a lot cheaper than regular Gym Membership...:2cents:

But then once my Bodybuilding reaches a peak I'll need new Equipment? So I'm thinking the gym will be most benefitial đź’ˇ? Or should I just get a better equipment at home? :)

Also do people use Free Weights or Machines?
I read on a site :computer: that some bodybuliders reckon Free Weights are better for adding on Bulk?

i got a bench pressing machine in my room...also i got dumbelts and other goodies

I have a membership to a gym.
I don't have the money or the space for a machine at my place:D

Lucky this was multiple choice.

I only do two weights sessions a week (my main emphasis is running and cardio) and for that I do a mix of free and machine weights. I use treadmills during the week (my gym is near work, so I duck down there at lunchtime) and run on the road on Sundays.

I don't have the room at home to set up anything of much use at home.

I like to go to the local gym just because there are many more options for me. There's no way I could fit a complete gym in my house, so I like to go to the big air-conditioned gyms where there is more space and a wide range of machines.

It's actually pretty cheap, and a nice establishment :).

i just do it at home....feels nice to work out without going anywhere.....its also in my room....and i can play PS2 while im on a break from lifting wheights

LOL, now that's how it's done :)

Maybe in the future I'll own a home gym, but for now I'd rather go some where. But when I'm older and don't need all the equipment, a home system would work perfectly.

Heh...I do the same thing on the weekends with my crunches - do a set, play PS2, do a set, play PS2...

 I made it multiple choice on purpose mate :smilewink

At the Gym do people find having a Trainer helpful? :D

i'm super weak. how weak are you? weak enough that i can't arm curl more than 20 an arm without heavy strain and i can barely do 5 shoulder raises before needing a break. i did manage 40 shoulder raises an arm, though.

yep, i'm muscless.

......Train at a gym.

....a real gym, not some pussyfoot 24hr Fitness or Bally's. Get a membership at Golds, World, or Powerhouse gym. Nobody gives a **** how weak (or strong) you are. We're all beginners sometime.

Training at home allows people to slack off, train half-assed or don't train at all. "hey, Seinfeld is on...I'll train later".......then "Later" becomes "Tomarrow" or "Next week I'll get serious"...

B.S.

You either do it..........or you don't.

Your probably spot on there option2, but I manage to dicipline myself at home ok :home:

I will go to the proper gym once I'm in work but being a student at the minute I can't really fund gym workouts :2cents:, well I could but saving up for a car is number 1 financial priority :D

At home I work out every other day, and leave a 2 day gap once a week, I also find it helps to time workouts, eg I will not stop until 45 minutes are up?

I also make workouts important, like when I get home I'll have my tea :Pizza: and won't allow myself to do anything else until I've worked out and my muscles are burning :fire:

Would it be helpful to get a trainers advice within a gym, are all workouts the same or do they really personalise them to a persons requirements?

What equipment do you have?

I do it at home.No driving time to go to the gym. Over the years I have collected quite an assortment of equiptment. I have over 3000 lbs of weights, many custom made work stations. (I have a good friend that likes to make things out of steel) . You would be amazed how many machines from the gym you can duplicate.

I had a gym membership but it was very inconvenient. I'd much rather excercise at home.

I like to exercise @ home instead of goin to the gym.
At home I can just exercise in my pajama's or something.. or be as bummy and raggedy lookin, hair all wild. Going to the gym, I feel paranoid like.. dang, are these people starin at me. Its just alot more comfortable and easier at home.

Gym has better equipment tho.

I had my best luck keeping a strict routine at a gym in our local High School. Good equipment, zero cost, and the hours that they were open worked for me. This was not social hour, but a good 1.5-2 hours of hard training.

Though the years though, my flexable schedule has become non-existant and so I am currently looking at getting setup with a good amount of free weights that I can setup in a dedicated room in my house. As Option2 pointed out, there's alot of distractions at home, and I for one, can contest to that fact. My hope is that with a dedicated room, behind closed doors that my routine will be better concentrated in that environment instead of a bench infront of a TV.

Like DGB454, I also have friends that are good at metal working, and can have most my racks built. I can get rubber mats at cost, so all that is left is the raw weight, bars, and dumb bells.

From my prelim costs I've put together so far, I'll have about $500 into equipment, and about $200 into other materials to get the room up to par. That's less than half the cost of a full-blown all-in-one home gym, and it will be 90% free weights which is what my body responds to the best.

Anyhow,

I travel a lot, and generally tend to live all over the country. for this reason, i prefer the gym. I have a bally's membership, which allows me to use any ballys nation wide. obvoiusly, i cannot use home equipment do to the constant moving.

I do my body building at home. Most of it with free weight. I don't see why you need a strict excercise routine, I actually think It would be better if you excercised every other day or if you worked on the lower body one day and then the upper body another day. You shouldn't over work your muscles.

I prefer the privacy you get at home too. If not, I usually work out in my school's facilities.

You know what machine works really well? BowFlex. I don't have it, but my friends does and from when he started till now (about 2 months), he's developed a large amount of muscles, and they are extremely well toned.

Nothin' better than a gym.
Like Option2 said, once you're there, you have to do it.
At home you'll keep putting it off.

His paycheck depends on it.

Besides that ...I never slack off training at home. Invest your hard earned money into something that will be around for a long time like a good set of weights and a good bench. Gym memberships run out and you have to keep paying for them every year. The driving time you save working out at home alone is worth it. Who has time to run up to the gym every night and then wait your turn on machine or a bench?

I've actually started to do a bit at home as well as the gym. I bought some decent hand dumbells and supplement my gym body core work with additional arm and shoulder work, mostly on the swiss ball. Good way to sneak in an extra half an hour's training here and there.

I use to be so obsessed with working out I would bring dumbells with me on vacation so I could get some type of workout in. I would throw 2 - 100 lb. dumbells in my trunk and pack around them. My gas miliage probably went down somewhat. Strange how hooked you can get on something like that.
