I don't think they have money trouble. I think they, like most people, just want to save money while keeping a car on the grid.

Yes but remember Appie, Honda had no title sponsor bringing in the money quite like how BAR did.

I'd imagine they ran up quite a substancial financial loss over the last season.

Yeah, BAR had Lucky Strike, 555, Teleglobe etc. all paying in the monies.
 
I agree that budget caps won't matter: the big teams will still have the edge. They'll just be sneakier about it. We'll see the same things happening, but the name on some of the checks has changed from "Scuderia Ferrari" to, say, "Ferrari Motorsport Development Trust" or something, which basically pays for the F1 team, but also puts a few dollars into sports car programs just to keep the FIA's giant searchlight off of them. A little more beauracracy, same result.

Money will get to the same people, there's always a way. 'Cept, maybe, for jail.

Honda must have had offers. They must have seen some benefit in not going for a title sponsor.
