Honda NSX '90 at Suzuka Circuit

[As always, if anyone would like to volunteer to take a picture, it will go here :)]
Thanks to LancerEvo7GSR for the picture!

Race Specifics

  • Arcade Mode Time Trial - hotlap
  • Power: 0% (274 HP)
  • Weight: -10% (1215 kg)
  • Tire Type: N3 (also known as Road or RD)
  • Driving aids and transmission mode are open.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; rumble strips are part of the track (as are light green rumble strip extensions and tarmac beyond white lines; the runoff outside 130R, however, is not); no contact with walls allowed at any time.
  • Please PM me your final time by Tuesday September 1 by 11:59 pm GMT (world clock).

Series Information and General Rules

  • All six races will be run in Arcade Mode and each will last one week, with a submission deadline of Tuesday at 11:59 PM GMT.
  • The cars used will be a variety of Hondas, mostly road cars on standard (N) tires, but with race cars appearing as well. Make sure you have all Hondas, used and new, unlocked in Arcade Mode, because few of the cars I will use are available from the beginning.
  • Standard OLR cleanliness rules apply: Two wheels must be in contact with the track at all times; rumble strips are part of the track; no contact with walls allowed at any time.
  • Discussion of times in the race thread during the week will be limited to split times (T1, T2, etc.). Final times are not to be discussed and must be submitted to me by PM before the week's deadline.
  • Please save your best lap replay just in case I request proof, which is unlikely but possible. Generally, no proof will be necessary for the winner or for anyone else; however, I reserve the right to request a photo of a time if I am suspicious of it.
  • Each race will award points towards the overall championship standings to all who submit a clean lap/race time, with the winner receiving 10 points, second place 8, third place 6, and fourth on down each separated by 1 point (5, 4, 3, etc.). No points will be awarded to a non-submitting driver. You do not have to announce your participation in the championship beforehand: anyone may participate in a race and be counted into the championship points, even if you do not plan on running all the races; similarly, there is no obligation to participate in every race. The driver with the most points at the end of the six races will win the championship.

Imagine you are a tester for Honda at the end of the 1980s. Your company has just produced a machine with such perfect handling that it can rival supercars with far more power. Your assignment is to set the fastest time you can using the new NSX on street tires at the fabled Suzuka Circuit. Your driving style will have to adapt to the fine-tuned suspension and MR chassis, but you should be able to use those attributes to your advantage with practice. That said, this is a deceptively complex combo, and doing the fastest lap possible is, simply put, damn hard. Have fun! :)

I'm sure you know me by now, Austin. I don't even have to finish typing, that you know what I will say.

Currently, I posted a lap of...

T1-1'05.074
T2-1'58.408

That's for now, will improve my laptime as if I can...

Lucas, I'm actually not certain about what you will say. Is it just that you will do this race if you find the time?

Kidrauhl, thank you for the congratulations (and your lap is really good; this is a hard combo), but I don't think I deserve that level of praise. I fluked turn 2 (an unintentional "dirt drop" gave me a great line) and the hairpin (a near-perfect "drift" around it), but my esses could have been better, and my 130R and Casio were terrible. So my lap time is worse than my T2 would seemingly indicate - then again, who would be brave enough to take 130R as fast as possible on a perfect lap?

No problem and thanks mate :)

Yeah I did mess up my lap a bit by going a bit too slow because I am worried I will go off track. It's heavy to turn the car seriously and I did try to keep the car on the road... My esses were slow and I make a mistake by run wide under the bridge... And I wouldn't be brave enough to go very fast at 130R and ruin what could possibly my best lap ever... Nobody would do it if you drive such car like this :dunce:

sarry dudes it wosint my time I have to look at things more. sarry my time .T1. 1.04.045.T2.1.56.931.

Now that I've read his PMs, it seems he raced at Suzuka East first, and then perhaps with S2 tires (T2 of 1'53.xx), and then finally got the right car, track, and tires and posted the time here now.

:tdown:Not actually getting the feel for the track yet, but it was an o.k. start of:
T1: 1.06.604
T2: 2.02.166
Going to try to improve the time.

I agree that the car doesn't have a lot of "feel," and the track is mirror-smooth, too, so I understand where you're coming from.

paddycars1, I'm not adding your time to the leaderboard yet because I'm still unsure of its validity. Are you sure you're racing the 1990 NSX on N3 tires with no power increase? I say that because your result in this thread doesn't line up with your result in this one.

Had some free time. 1'06.864 - 2'01.312

Know track well after GTPLMS. Half the battle.

NSX+Suzuka=Driving Bliss :D Still, I ran off turn 1 into the sand on my first lap! :ouch:
1'04.897
1'58.170

That's right. ;)

I will try the combo later today, about 7 hours from now. 👍

This is a hard one... I need to improve on my times. I got slightly under 2'00 in T2, in my first clean lap. Will see what I can do now.

Yep, this is a hard one. The tires don't offer enough grip to do both hard braking and turning at the same time, which is what makes the first corner so treacherous on your first couple of laps. The car also likes to go into a sort of four-wheel slide if you steer too much, which always catches me out. The best possible time can be achieved by knowing which corners to take with minimal sliding and which to take in a small "drift," although I wouldn't recommend trying to slide through any corner before you've had quite a bit of practice.

:boggled:I have a feeling I submitted a horrible time but I did save time on the final sector.

Nevermind mate... Felt sorry to you but you can always try again next time...

Maybe you don't like this car or whatever but I don't know... I don't like the car but just drive it!!! Then you'll enjoy it like I did!!! :) 👍

Have fun. That's what I do. Because the only time I'm going to win is if nobody shows up. lol. Will run a few today.

Time submitted!
No time to really put something good crazy week @ work and home (back to school week)
GL all!

Congratulations to MadMax86 and InsaneRacer for nice podium times, and to everyone for completing a long lap in a difficult car on tires with low grip. 👍 As you can see from this race and the next, cars won't generally have huge amounts of grip the way I set them up, so be prepared to actively "slow down" your driving to keep the car from just sliding and scrubbing off all its speed.

Once I find the camera, which seems to have disappeared, I'll have videos of this race and the warmup.

Nice lap time there Austin343. 👍
And congrats for the win! 👍 👍

I was doing 1'03.8's at best at T1 and usually messed it up during rest of the lap.

splits for my submitted time were:
T1 1'04.194
T2 1'57.486

MadMax
