honestly... i got gold in the lotus special event on my 3rd or 4th try... i find the car a joy in the corners... never a dull moment... the trick is to control the slides or be very accurate with the car... or both... tap the buttons... feel as the back end tries to break loose... also try the basics, like drafting text book overtaking manuovers and read your opponents... anticipate their next movement because gt5 AI is quite predictable... if you cant control the slides then dont... drive smoother, gentle on the throttle and steering... hope this helps :)

Unfortunately - no there is no such thing that makes you fall in love again with the game again - I was hoping for something like that too, but as I progress through GT5 the disappointing thins about it keep accumulating.
There are no really enjoyable race events and because of the level system it is not possible to compete in the races you want. - But no, not only because of the level system, also because of the lack of cars, for some races you need cars that can only be found in the "uses cars" slot - but you usually have to wait for them, ore have great luck (an money at the right time) - also when it comes to buying race cars you will probably have some lack of money ... they cost so much and at races you earn so little...

Some races are not event possible to finish (as the last race of the NASCAR championship) because "AI" is crashing my car all the time so I get last one in the race....

Level system in B-Spec - especially at higher levels you have to do races several times, to reach the next Level that is needed for the following races.

Did you even play GT3? That game was truly awful and hard.
 
The intermediate top gear special event has been one of the high points for me in GT5, actually. I thrive on extreme challenge, and this event delivered. It probably took about six hours of practicing for me to beat this event, and that was only after completing the Loeb snow rally event (driving on actual ice puts this event into perspective).
