Hot Tires. Good?

Hello Interwebz. So I was doing an old race with my Audi R8. Eventually, I got bored of beating all the comps, so I started drifting at every oppertunity. After a few laps, my tires turned a permenant shade of red (Red meaning hot, in case you didn't know). Because this was a Campaign race, my tires never degraded. So my question is this. Are blazing hot tires better, I.e. Do they give more grip as in a real F1 car? Or do they just mean the game is telling you to back off? Personal opinion would be nice too. Thanks

Also, I did search for this, and it was all threads about how to keep them from getting red, not what happens when they did. Just a quick note

Red tires = wheelspin = loss of traction = less grip

R8 is 4WD so it has more traction.
Also, you can't drift a 4WD car, you can only powerslide it. 4WD cars behave totally different when in a wheelspin than FR/MR cars.

To sum it up - no, blazing hot tires aren't better by any means.

I enjoying having mine in a shade of red. They give a lot more control when drifting, especially when they get close to the 40% usage mark (online), as for races, no.
When they start to fry I see and feel I'm going much wider.

I get that, in the turns, but in my situation I was out of the turns, and because of all the drifting I was doing they were still red, even though I was going straight.

I dont think so, but i find i get abit more grip, when my tyres degrade just a little bit, and when they are light blue on the scale, hey, im probably wrong though lol.

Good rule of thumb to keep in mind, nothing that has anything to do with "drifting" makes a car run faster normally.

You should stop by Tsukuba and watch me burn mad rubber in every corner in my Ithaca Green Gallardo.
Brake and then accelerate is how I start the drift, I though using the handbrake was a powerslide?

No, his point is that drift is ONLY with RWD because 4WD is like "cheating" because the drive of the front wheels gives an unfair advantage.

Ah. Well I suppose that makes sense. It was still fun to do it with the R8 though, particularly because it looks so good in the pics and videos. Gonna go make an RWD Drifter now........Maybe my Challenger..... Drifts around enough as is :)

I thought we made it perfectly clear in the GT5 Drifting subforum that such discussions are not kosher on GTPlanet?

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=175512

Any attempt to issue an official "edict" banning discussion of non-RWD drifting or even the use of the term "drifting" in relation to non-RWD cars will similarly be met with a lock.

We are not telling you to unrestrict your lobbies.

We are not telling you to accept non-RWD drifters into your teams.

We are telling you that this subforum is open to one and all who wish to discuss "drifting" in GT5, whatever their drivetrain orientation. Any arguments of what constitutes "drifting" should be kept specifically within the pre-existing discussions regarding drivetrain choice.

Thank you.

I don't want this rubbish spilling out into other parts of GTPlanet, okay?

On the second part, agree. Hot tires are terrible. In fact, on some cars, actively ensuring the tires are as cold as possible before entering a set of difficult corners will allow you to brake harded and maintain grip better throughout the sequence. It's one of those things that helps you in the more difficult races with low-powered cars on comfort tires.

There used to be a glitch in Forza 2 where red hot rear tyres (by handbeaking into corners) added considerable amount of grip. If there's a similar glitch in GT5 then this would be of benefit.

However I _feel_ red hot tyres just increase the wear in GT5. Couldn't say I noticed any change in grip levels beyond blue (warm) tyres.

Red tyres = bad.

If you've got red tyres way after exiting a corner, then you're probably still spinning them...

I don't think it matters tooo much in the GT life mode, but I know that when I set everything to off and real, there are certain temps that the tires come in.
For example, I have a car that seems to like keeping it's tires cold. When they are cold (dark blue) I have a dreadful amount of understeer. But when they are red I end up sliding the car. If they go red under braking, I normally ease up on the brake and I find they are at a very good temp to handle a turn. So red is a no no for me. But if you're trying to get temp into your tires, I guess you can force it into the red a bit. I do that with the F10 before a lap. A few burnouts help get the tires nice and warm...

Dark Blue tyres = Cold with reduced grip.

Light Blue tyres = Optimum temperature with full grip. After a long straight the tyres may cool back to dark blue.

Red = Too hot, very reduced grip. If you get wheelspin or brake heavily then it will put your tyres red before cooling down to light blue (this is a good way to warm your tyres). If you don't let them cool they will stay red for a while.
