Had a mare with my ISP, potentially down for a week :(

I’ve managed to hook up hotspot on my iPhone, for 12mb down and 3mb up. Just played a race and had no lag at all, 4 out of 5 bars.

My question is; does anyone know how much data a game like GTS would consume say... per hour?

Anyone have any ideas? I’m worried I’ll be burning through data

I’ve hot spotted for races before, it can be inconsistent sometimes because it’s wireless but I found it uses bugger-all data. I’ve done it for big enduros in the past because my 4g was better than my broadband at the time, to reduce DC probability. Nearly 10 hours of driving all up didn’t use anymore than maybe 1.5gb, YouTube will suck way more data.

In my mind it’s the fact that online gaming would only be sending and receiving data, rather than streaming a video say...

I thought hot spotting had the wrong NAT to work well with playing games online.

On your iPhone you can go into settings / mobile data scroll down to reset statistics , reset it then do an hour on line and see what that says. Also you can deselect anything else that might use your data. Hope that helps

Or depending on which net work your on can’t you get info from them,ie I’m with EE amd if I text BA to 150 I get a text back saying how much data and minutes I have left

I'm in the same boat mate. I'm using the phones hotspot as we type. Broadband router is playing silly buggers again.

As has been said it can get a bit flaky now & then but it hardly uses up much data for GTS.

EDIT: Out of interest, what is your monthly allowance?

Thanks everyone for your response.

I did a couple of races last night and did the data allowance check with EE as I'm a customer of theirs also, and I seemed to use a few hundred MB at the very most.

I do have 95GB of data remaining this month (astronomical, I know), so I guess I now have no concerns on that front.

Hopefully its down for only a week!
