I was watching the Subdivisions video on YouTube, and I began wondering: How are music videos made?
Do the artists actually sing in the video as if the song was actually done on a sound stage; or do they lip synch with the dubbing done afterwards to the video, like in Blues Brothers (and Ashlee Simpson)?

What they do is:

As the artist is "performing" on film, the song is played back on stage(while filming) so that the singer can sync with the song. After the shoot you edit the video, and hopefully the lips will sync with the actual song which the video is for. :sly:

Although some videos are made while the band is playing live, and they're not taken out of a concert video btw.

I think Patience from Gn'R was like that.
