Conan is the funniest Barbarian on late night and primetime 👍 :)
gotta luv "Walker Texas Ranger"
LMAO yeah that is pretty funny. Hmm....what happens if I pull this lever? Sadly I havent had time to watch him lately.

I think (only think) you can whack the disk in your pc and select the properties of the disk via my computer.

I have no idea if this is an accurate reading but i've done it a few times and it was about right.

its 6.3 gigs, or so muh computer says, dual layer discs arent the best kind of discs, blue ray discs can hold 25 gigs.... This topic of blue ray discs has been discussed in the GT5 part of the forum. Oh the possibilities of 25 gigs!..hehehe.

5.2 Gigs....

This would be the correct answer. Although you'd only find this out if you managed to load gt4 onto HDD. Or does windows show the second layer? I'm a bit hazy on how a pc sees the second layer.

I mean you can switch to the second layer in an appliction like apache, but I dun nut know about just straight viewing it in windows.

Exactly... Apache is your friend here...

And GT4 from HDD rules 👍

but, you might only be reading on layer......see, there is a thing called "on the fly decompression", where a single DVD can hold about 15 gigs or so of memory, that is why we now have operating systems that can run off the cd, such as "knoppix". if the PS2 can handle on the fly decompression, then the gran turismo disk could have aboot 14-15 gigs of memory

It's 5.2 as has been stated many times before, it's not only reading a single layer either since that would show less than 5.2GB. Even with the whole disk unpacked onto a HDD it come to 5.2GB, theres the answer.

I don't even NEED to freaking read this to know what the REAL reason is for this thread.

Obviously he wants to know if he can easily pirate the game. There is no other reason why you would be interested in knowing the size of this game. Plus the guy specifically stated that he has NOT bought the game yet. So that tells even more about his true intent.

Dude if you are looking to pirate it then go somewhere else. try isohunt or something. And I'm not going to elaborate on piracy. You cheap bastards.

Erm, no, how about he hadn't bought the game yet because it was only out in Japan when the thread was started. It's from December last year, also it was started by Pimp Racer, who now owns the game and is quite well known on here. The thread was started because we knew GT4 would be on a dual layer DVD and it was a matter of interest at the time. So rather than calling a member you know nothing of and have already made a wrong assumption of, try reading more of the thread, like the dates it was started and what the general topic was at the time.

more than a regular dvd (4,7gb) and less than a Dual layer disk (8,5GB). I think that is arround 6GB
STOP ALREADY...

Ignorance (in the positive sense of the word - not knowing all the facts), prejudice, and advertizing are powerful tools. Yes, the guy might be trying to pirate the disk, but it is amusing that almost everyone will assume that is what he is doing and automatically condemn him for it - whether or not he is doing so.

One detail about Copyright law that companies don't want you to know is that as a consumer "You have the right to make copies of copyrighted material for personal use", provided that you own the item in the first place. That is why it is perfectly legal for you to make a copy of one of your CDs so that you can listen to it in your car. And considering how easily disks get ruined, it IS a good idea to use a backup insted of the original.

In simpler words... the authors have the right to expect you to pay for the game ONCE, but they do not have the legal right to expect you to buy multiple copies just because the disk was cheesily made or got scratched.

So, please, go easy on the guy unless you know with absolute certainty what his intent is.

I feel strongly about this issue because I was recently burned by this kind of thinking. I recently got a speeding ticket even though I was not speeding (maybe the officer made a mistake, maybe he was one of the not-uncommon Texas cops trying to make revenue for his city). I went to court assuming justice would prevail. There was a jury (my hopes went up - less chance of a dirty judge). But even though it was obvious during the case that the officer did not have any evidence other than his word and that he could not remember anything about the ticket 6 months later, I was found guilty. Solely on the assumption that "the officer would not have given an incorrect ticket".

This is the same kind of thinking you guys are using. You are judging with prejudice rather than evidence. Not good.

Good post there Sir 👍 We need more members like you !...

Now - What was the name of the guy that was convicted for 218Mph even though it was proved his bike was incapable of such a speed...

I remeber a case earlier in the year where a guy got caught by a radar gun doing about 120Mph in his car and he proved that his car topped out at 90. That brought up an issue regarding the accuracey of the guns and found that slight movments in the persons arm who is operating the gun can cause it to be off, they tested this on a brick wall, and found that it was possible to catch a brick wall doing almost 40Mph.

I'm laughing as I read these posts. Not till page 3 when lzybm22 gives the answer, data compression.

Data Compression is a mixed blessing. You can store more data, but in the case of GT4, it seems the data is packed so tight, it takes a while to load. Haven't you all asking wondered why tt takes a several seconds of load time? GT3 loaded much faster.

I remember my bro told me a story where he was doing over 130mph+ on the freeway. Right after the hill on the other side a black camaro on the side just waiting for someone to speed. An zoom there goes my bro, my bro told me that he kept going and got off the freeway. went up some street going towards his house. He can barly see the cop coming up from behind and he just pulled over to the side. When the cop came up to his window he said that got him with the gun doing well over 130+. The cop said he couldnt keep up with his truck and was very fast. He told me that the cop let him go because of his curtousy of stopping. When he told me this i thought to myself that cops can be really kool and not always assholes who just want to give u a ticket. BTW, my bro has a small Toyota Pickup (Red) modded. Intake, cam, MSD, heads, nitrous etc....

Thats a rare thing indeed. BTW would you have considered to cop to be uncool had he issued the ticket? Personally I'd have hoped he would ticket somone doing 130mph on a public road.

The data isn't compressed.. - They're easily readable once extracted from the disc - Why compress when you've got space left ?.. Besides - Load times would actually be lower with data compression since the actual READING of the data - the DVD drive, is by far the slowest link...

And GT3 loading faster - of course it does, have you by any chance noticed a slight increase in detail level in GT4 ?....
