How can I get better at rallying?

I will have to make up a bit of money for the WRC cars, would it be worth it?

Thanks for the video, really. Some really good advice in your post, I never used the throttle at all through the corners, I was basically driving like I did on the roads, so I will try to improve on that.

No, complete GT Rally intermediate and try to get a WRC from the ticket

Ahhh, didn't know there was an event to get it for free, thanks, I will try that.

Try the RM'd 05 Subaru. There is also a rally set up for that in that link I posted earlier.

And, I forgot to mention earlier: Remember, the more time you spend sideways, the more speed you lose, ie, the slower you go. If you'd like you can add me (GTP_SpitRacer) and I'll see what I can do for helpin you out.

Hey all, I have just started to became interested in dirt racing in GT5. But I really suck at it: I mean, I cant go 3 metres on dirt without spinning, when I turn to go around a corner, even the slightest movement, and the car spins. When I do that, and the car slows down (Including when I brake for a corner) the car takes ages to get going again, by around 3 seconds, just spinning around.

It's really annoying, but makes me really, really happy that rally is optional, and you don't need to do it in A-Spec or B-Spec to progress, that's fantastic.

Any way I can get better? In a way that I can do a lap without spinning around in circles all the way through. I know I have to turn traction control off and other things, I'm talking about how to turn properly, and brake right. Thanks.

Also, please no "0mgz U suckz0rd", or "L3rn 2 dr1v3" posts.

The first and most important thing that you want to make sure you're doing is using a high powered AWD car. An AWD works very well off road because in most cases they react well to the dirt, gravel, sand, snow, etc... a lot better because all four wheels are spinning which in turn gives you better traction than a FWD or RWD car would.

Rally racing is a totally different discipline than actual racing as you might already know because in rally racing you normally don't hit the speeds you would in road racing, you have to learn how to start braking way before you get to the turn because braking off road takes longer for the car to stop than road racing, you're normally going to be at weird angles and counter steering through turns, etc...

All in all use a high powered AWD car, you'll have to learn how to start braking early, and last but not least how to properly carry your momentum quickly throughout each corner which will almost guarantee a fast lap.

There is a lot more than just that to rally racing but what I've mentioned should give you a good general starting point and as you race you'll develop different techniques that fir your driving style but the last thing I'll say is rally racing is a bit slower than road racing and you'll have to adapt to off road just as you adapted to the road in GT5. 👍

Always always always use 4wd. Turn all aids off. All of them. (driving line can be surprisingly helpful) look on the tuning forum for a good tune and just drive as if you were aiming to slide everywhere.

Auto will probable help too :p

Auto is exactly what you don't want. You need to be able to control your RPMs and torque, and when you run an automatic it will make for situations where you may need to be in 2nd gear to get that little extra length in the gear to pull you around the corner, but it throws you in first because of the low speed you're going.

Or the other way around which is even worse IMO.

i prefer MR, they are a bit more unstable, but they can fly through corners if you have good throttle and steering control (i use DS3)

my favorite cars for rallies are:
all beginner and intermediate dirt and road:
lotus elise 111 RM

intermediate snow:
tesle roadster (i pass everyone every time)

expert:
lancia stratos rally car

EDIT: DONT force drift, be as smooth as possible and let the movements flow. if you force a drift, you will spin...

What the  is a AWD drive car? I never thought to use the Lotus Elise 111 at all, but I may give it a try. I would have tried the others earlier, and told you all how I got on with it, but I have been played Crysis 2 a lot lately and cant get of it.

Thanks for all the replies.

lotus elise 111 isnt 4wd but with full downforce, (RM) it is surprisingly controlable

All wheel drive?

It also seems to be different racing rally online with traction real and on a-spec (as other racing is). I feel there is a lot more understeer and sliding sideways in the special challenges, which is really annoying. Almost feels like a different car then when I'm testing online.

Hi, There are lots of "tunes" on this site. Increase ride hieght, soften the springs and extend the shocks. You'll need the adjustable suspesion for this. There are lots of really good rally cars in the game... Have fun.

I'll be starting a rally shootout very soon (probably this weekend), so maybe you could sign up as a tester to try out the rally-road hybrid cars that everyone's gonna be making there. All you have to do is try them out and simply decide which is the best. ;)

50/50 is too much. You need to be able to slide the rear end with the throttle. 40/60 is as far as you want to go with that, and that's pushin it.

I cant really try out any of these at the moment, PS3 is away :nervous: So I will be trying next week or something, not sure.

@C-ZETA; thanks, but no thanks :dopey:

Don't feel too bad about being not so great at rallying. I'm certainly pretty cruddy, though it's a lot of fun so I'm trying to get better.

I'm starting a group b rally series (see sig) if anyone's interested in joining. Maybe you could give me some pointers as well:dopey:
