well, for a course it depends on what the maximum cornering speed is with a car and the length of the straighrs. you would max out the power first, test it, adjust the suspension for more grip than take care of the gearing. you may need to fine tune the suspension some more after gearing adjustments. various theories on gearing, the main thing is to keep the rpm from going to or staying in weak hp and torque points for the corners and that the gears are set to allow enough of a top speed. if you do not need a cars full top speed potential for a course, go for a higher final drive ratio or lower auto setting. that may get you better acceleration. the more powerful the car the less adviced it is to have the aftershift rpm fall on the torque peak.

that is if it's rearwheel drive or has less than perfect grip.

for top speed.

1. lower the car until it is just above bottoming out.
2. lower downforce all the way or near all the way.
3. all 0 camber or near all 0 camber
4. 0 toe in & out
5. i really do not know what's best for the suspension as far as damping and spring rates go. i'd try them maxed first.
6. gearing: best to test. above some where around 100-120 mph, horsepower becomes more important than torque, or so i've heard. check the car and driver issue with the 0-150-0 test from some years ago if you can.

Quick tuneups, go with the horsepower upgrades and the racing transmission. Add all the horsepower you can from N/A tuneups, exhaust, and other engine mods. Then buy the racing tranny, and tune the gears accordingly. There is plenty of advice about tranny tuning, do a search. That is a quick and dirty way to go faster. I don't much about the drag, car height, downforce, and other suspension issues involved..... But there are plenty of people here to help with that. Good luck!
