How can you perform a fast start?

Several times, I attended the one-make race, and while everyone was droving the same car, I noticed people behind me driving way faster than me once the countdown completed. How is that possible? It was clearly noticeable, moving from #6 to #3 during the initial straight line. Do they shift gears at an optimal moment? I forgot to watch the replay :-(

It's lag. Sometimes it even causes a big pile up in the auto drive part and there's a 20 sec gap in the field. You can see cars move into each other then braking to cause whole sections to slow down.

So to get your desired result, you need first place to lag at the right moment for 2nd to auto drive into first, so both slow down. If the countdown timer ends right before the ripple back effect through the field reaches you, you have the 'boost' It's the auto drive traffic jam effect.

I think no matter of lag, just a simulation of Lets say a F1 restart. The number one decides the speed and the rest must follow. And Yes sometimes you get a bad start, and the other time you have more momentum. So on long straights you will catch the car in front of you.

It's not lag, cars start in different gears depending on position, so if a car behind you starts in 2nd, while you start in 3rd, he will be faster. 100% tested.

I've noticed the gear you are in and your location on the track when you are given control of the car after the countdown ends can also make a big difference.
Yesterday's onemake race had this problem, the pole started at first gear, and the people behind on second gear, was almost impossible to maintain the lead, I lost the first position before the first corner the two times I was pole, and watched it happen with the pole when I was behind

Should it be considered as a bug then? Sounds like it's a bit unfair and has nothing to do with real world racing, right? Is it fine to block the line?
