how close do you sit to your HDTV when playing GT5 to get a true sense of reality?

I am curious how close you people sit to your HDTV screen when playing? Because in real life when you drive, whats out in front of you is pretty close. I notice that the closer I sit, the more sense of speed I get and it seems to look more real. But is it safe on the eyes to sit so close to lets say a 32" HDTV when playing for a prolong period of time?

I plan on getting a racing seat with a g27 logitech wheel one day, and would like to know what a good distance is from the TV.

Not more than a meter from my non-HD TV. What you said is true, it makes it a more real and enjoyable. Also, I wouldn't have a place on my room for my wheel. Only problem is that the wheel gets in the way of subtitles . See the "G27" picture in my signature:

I am displaying 1080i from my HD projector (65L x 44W). There is about 6-8 feet between my cockpit and the canvas.. To close I feel I would have a seizure and that is not the way to get the fastest time lol.

I have a 43" rear projection TV (non-HD) and a 90" front projector 720P (I do plan to change the 43" to 50" sometime this year).
I use the 90" projector only if I have at least 1 hour of clean playtime.
And I always sit around 8feet (almost 3 meters) away from the screen - no matter which of which is working.
The differences are huge !!! When I'm playing with my 43" - I "see" the game, and when I'm using the 90" - I am IN the game !!! (for the FPS lovers - imagine playing MW2 with that...)

Er.....you have to wrap it around your head so that you see nothing by GT in every direction?

that is a decent distance. where did you get your setup from looks nice.

i would like to play closer but i can't because all the jaggies become irritating, i play with a 23" fullhd LCD

The only way to get more sense of speed is more screens.
3 works but 5 is the best.
Your eyes have a view of approx. 180 degrees. This allows you to see just how fast things are blowing past you.
With 1 screen this is not possible, wich makes the sense of speed abit dull.

Do you remember Yamauchi playing on Nurburgring on the PD studios?
I play in this way, if i find the pic i will post it.

i always start out leaned back but sometime during the race i end up leaning forward and end up about 2-3 feet from my 42" lol

I sit 8 feet away from a 40 inch thats the optimal viewing distance for that tv. You should look up yours. I have a surround sound system as well so everything in my apartment is the optimal distance away from me so it performs the best.

You guys must have some long arms! Your seats seem far from the wheels... elbows at 45degrees or more 👍 and I set the wheel so it is vertical, not leaning back.
You can see my Limitied Edition G25 also. :sly: I have since had some custom GT stickers made, and I have a 'GT' logo on the white part on top of my wheel.

Usually the whole rig is closr to the countertop, and the TV is a little closer the edge of the countertop. Typically, I can touch the TV without moving much besides my arms.
(note the sweet West Virginia glass jar )

1~ m. away from my 37", regardless of the game I'm playing (FPS's, FIFA, GT, SFIV, Bomberman...).

This close, with a pillow sometimes because I'm short.

That is easily the lowest mounting point for a shifter I have ever seen. That's a HUGE distance from the wheel. Does that not get annoying?

Personally, I sit about 4 feet or so from my 52" Sharp Aquos 1080p set, also in a custom made cockpit:
