how close do you sit to your HDTV when playing GT5 to get a true sense of reality?

When I use the clutch, my right hand never leaves the shifter. Therefore, it doesnt make a hoot to me how far the shifter is away from the wheel. In fact, I get so use to driving with one hand, if I use both hands, in between shifts, I'll mess up immediately!

1x3?! You must be a smooth driver! :lol: I like the stain grade wood though, classy. :sly:

That is easily the lowest mounting point for a shifter I have ever seen. That's a HUGE distance from the wheel. Does that not get annoying?

Personally, I sit about 4 feet or so from my 52" Sharp Aquos 1080p set, also in a custom made cockpit:

All the guys who sent in pics.... do you suffer from OCB? Those setups are far to tidy, where is the spaghetti cables?

Considering I don't try to imitate being a race car driver while playing GT, I'm usually sitting about 5 feet behind my 32" TV.
 
At normal seating position I'm about 2.5m from my 46" HDTV. However, when I play racing games, I tend to perch on the edge of the sofa and lean forwards!

I suppose if you race with one hand, it's not a problem. I can't stand racing with one hand, so I have the shifter much closer, as it is in most vehicles.

It's actually rock solid. It quite literally does not move at all in any direction. It's all based off the theory that triangles make everything more stable. The initial design had supports down from the angled uprights. However, once I built it, I realized how strong it was, and left them out of the build.

I used to own an Obutto, and this is BY FAR the more stable unit.

I can't speak for everyone else, but my cables are not pictured. I wanted to keep it clean for the picture. The cables will, however, be routed through the frame once it's complete.

I'll buck the trend of tidy pictures right here, when I'm playing Gt my eyes are about 5ft away from the tv.

I took a picture from the drivers seat to try & give you an idea of what I see but as I'm not remotely talented with a camera the flash has reflected and spoilt the middle of the picture a bit.

I've never thought of it like that. It's quite comfortable and I've managed to get decent times with it too. I've never had it any other way though so I might be missing out.

You guys must have some long arms! Your seats seem far from the wheels... elbows at 45degrees or more 👍 and I set the wheel so it is vertical, not leaning back.

Actually when sitting in my seat with my arms out stretched my wrists can sit on top of the wheel, which is a good rough guide for steering position, and it is comfortable for me, as is the steering angle

Cable ties :) And I'm an industrial electrician, so I actually thought my set up was mighty messy from what I'd do at work :P

Assuming the field of vision in GT5 is around 80 degrees or so (anyone know the real value in the gt5 demo?), you can get 100% scale life sized rendering at a distance of 1.5m (such that you may have if you own a racing frame) if your screen size is 252cms wide.

Have PD published the FOV used in gt5?
 
In my racing chair, I sit around.. 3-4 feet away from a 32 inch TV. Wish It could be closer, but its fast to get use to.
 
In the past I sat about 6 or 7 feet away from my 36 inch tv but recently I built a new rig and sit about 2 feet from the screen and I like it alot better now.
 
6-7 feet (around 2 meters) from 32" Samsung LCD.

Perfect for me. Any closer and I feel consumed. Not to mention, the tv is a bit higher than me (I look slightly up at it.)

Not more than a meter from my non-HD TV. What you said is true, it makes it a more real and enjoyable. Also, I wouldn't have a place on my room for my wheel. Only problem is that the wheel gets in the way of subtitles :lol:. See the "G27" picture in my signature:

I envy you. I also play on a CRT, but I can't stay close like that because of the interlace character of the TV, or whatever, I can see those dots/lines on the TV and I can't get a sense of reality at all.
 
i play cod like 60cm away, but gran turismo more like 3m, cause my g25 is at the end of the table. i play on my lg 37lh4020 that i just bought (37 inch (94cm), 100hz, 3ms responds, full hd)

I've always heard your arms should be bent with your wrist on the wheel, not that I care how you drive. I drive much closer playing GT than driving in real life, for obvious reasons. Guys driving stock cars keep the steering wheel just about on their chest, and open wheelers sit fairly close to the wheel also.

I agree, it looks ao damn uncomfortable but they are sitting right up on the wheel. I like my arms bent at about 25 degrees when my hands are on the wheel.
 
I stay 4m away from my 47 inch LCD:tup:! Used to stay at 2m, but got me glasses after 1 year and a half:guilty:! Only use it to watch TV, PC and drive at night!
