How different were the previous prologues?

I'm just wondering if anyone can remember the previous prologues and if there were any major upgrades from the prologue to the final game? Like, were the graphics better? More/better scenery? Or was it only more content?

Oh and hi, first post :)

I'm a little confused by what you mean with "previous prologues".

Do you mean GT4: Prologue - which was a PS2 game and was never updated?
Do you mean the Spec I/Spec II and interim versions of GT5 Prologue - which have added 20-odd cars, a track and several tweaks to graphics, physics and AI?

I for one would like to experience the difference in handling. This was from spec II to spec III I believe? I've never played anything else than spec III.

Can this be done actually? Backing up my save file, re-installing GT5:P and not updating it? Or would it be impossible to play spec II because it will automatically update van spec I to III?

If you delete the GT5P file from your game data folder and reinstall from the disc you'll get to play (once you cancel the update) Spec II if you're PAL or NTSC-UC and Spec I if you're NTSC-J.

Alright, I have the PAL version, will give this a try then. Backing up my save game file to usb shouldn't be a problem.

or use a different PS3 user instead of worrying about saves

That wouldn't work unless it was also on a different PS3 as installed game data ( such as specIII ) is only installed once and is accessible to all users on that PS3, therefore no matter the user it would still be specIII.

In my opinion GT4 Prologue is a better offline game. The race events in GT5P are fun, but I'm not a fan of doing the same limited amount of single races, especially considering none of them were really that challenging apart from the S class races (but then there's the whole PP thing :yuck:).

I think tacomodo was asking about differences between GT4 prologue and GT4 final (the same for GT 2 and 3 if such a versions existed for GT2 and3) - if he/she wasn't - I would like to ask.
I never played prologues before (GT5P being first one) so - were these games a lot different from final instalments ?
Asking that is to try to think of how much can GT5 actually be different from GT5P (not the obvious cars and tracks stuff) - graphics ? physics ?

GT4P was much the same as GT5P - a condensed, Arcade Mode version with similar graphics running on a prototype GT4 physics engine and a handful of cars/tracks and some "tests". No online mode, mind, but other than that you'd recognise it as GT5P but on the PS2 and with GT4 stuff.

There weren't any other Prologues. The nearest alternative was GT Concept which came out between GT3 and GT4 Prologue. Again, this was an Arcade Mode only, slimmed down version running on the GT3 physics engine, except it had marginally better graphics than GT3 because it came out a smidge after. It also featured the kooky little Toyota pod car which I remember fondly :D

As far as I can tell, the OP means differences between GT4:P and GT4...

I.e How much better were the Graphics and Physics in GT4 compared to GT4 Prologue?

This information would give a decent indication as to how GT5 will differ from GT5:P in terms of Graphics and Physics...

GT4: Prologue also had few nice things that never got into the final GT4.

For instance, screen shaking and engine stalling when car would reach his engine/aerodynamic limits. And best of all, it was starting around 300 km/h which would happen in RL.

Lovely female voice for description of License tests.

Sound of Woodone Supra which was just damn fantastic.

lol at the female voice for license tests.:D:tup: Yes that was a charming feature wasn't it.
I remember the laps I did in the Xanavi GT-R around Citta de Aria, i do hope that GT5 has that track in it. I kind of like the twisty narrow tracks, there so challenging.:D:tup:

GT4 Prologue had better graphics than the final game, much higher res textures particularly on trackside objects. This might have been due to the game needing compression to fit all on to one DVD.

I made this thread ages ago (2005) comparing screenshots from both, hope that helps out 👍:)

Oh yes! The voice and The Noise.
The voice was Vicki Butler-Henderson´s from Fifth Gear.
About he noise: I was so disappointed when I grunted the Supra's accelerator the first time in GT4. What went wrong?!

As far as I remeber GT4P had less details in the mirror and more pop-in than GT4. I'm most concerned about stable 60fps in final GT5.
