How do you launch?

How do you take off? Do you guys normally just floor it? (using either the wheel or DS2) Or do you gradually apply the gas so as not to get excessive wheel spin? Let's assume you have no TCS on. I was just trying to figure out the quickest way to launch the car off the line doing a 1/4 run. 👍

Thanks

So you dont just punch the gas down like so many people do? I think you can only really floor it and still be quick if you have a grippy 4WD car with moderate power. Too much power and you spin like crazy and loose precious time. It's even worse if you have FF or FR.

Depends on the power of the car. Also, I usually find an RPM to sit at right before the light, depending on the car. Finally, I use light, like 1 or 2 level TCS, to control wheel spin on most cars... on my Supra, its 6 cause it still spins the tires in 5th at 150 MPH >_>

Shifting from first to second earlier than normal (maybe 3000-4000 rpm) helps for me as well, especially for more powerful cars. You let the tyres spin for a bit in first then quickly slam it into second and then the car grips ok... it works well with 4WD cars.

I think the best take-offs are done with the TCS on. Would LSD help you think? I dont really get how LSD works..

On turbo cars it is easy, you go off the boost monitor. Just figure out an approximate level and use it. I guess it is easierwith turbos also because the boost is lowered in first gear. It is better to have slightly smokey starts rather than risk not launching well. With Na cars it is all about feel.

....when the countdown reaches 0(zero) hit the gas about half way...and a second or so later......more gas and............floor it :sly:

LSD

hmm i prefer getting 1-ways (especially with 4WD) cus that limited slip effect occurs during accelaration. the way they work is that the LSD gives equal torque on each tire (left-right) no matter where the load is shifted instead of a regular diff in which it gives less torque on the wheel thats getting the most load and transfers it to the side with less load. i believe LSD gives you WHP gain.

LSD is meant to apply power equaly to each wheel. I won't get into any opinions or specifics. This is just restating "tougedrft's" explanation. just simplified.

Large amounts of time can be saved in the license tests by using the correct start method.
FWD start in second and have revs at about 4-5000 RPM.
4WD start in first and floor it. (The 4WD hanles full power starts)
The high power RWD and mid engine cars can handle second gear starts with just under full revs.
The low power RWD and mid engine cars start in first with about 5000 revs.
The aim is to limit wheel spin. A small amount of wheel spin is better than bogging the engine down and starting below 3000 RPM.
For races I generally just use full throttle and do not worry about the start, I generally catch up pretty quick.

LSD (Limited Slip Differential) is meant to apply power in a manner of traction. That means whichever wheel will be getting the most traction. One wheel smokies are still possible on vehicles equipped with an LSD but then you know your LSD isn't in working properly. As soon as it feels the other wheel has more traction, power is shifted to that side.

Have any of you notices, on the lower end lisence tests, just how much time you can save by launching a low powered car? When I'm only tenths of seconds away from a gold I just crew around with the rpms that I luanch at and I can save alot of time. Dons't work as well with higher powerd cars.

What I said two posts up.
I believe I even gave some explanation on what to do.
High power RWD cars I suggest to start in second gear. That is the Viper, Mazda RX7 and Corvette.

Sometimes you seem to launch quicker in 2nd but this annoys me. Do high powered cars take off in 2nd in real life?

Do not think so. They just compinsate by having a real petal where they don't have to give full power. Plus I don't think there wold be much need for a first gear then.
Side note, starting my car in fith gear in real life seems to be a great way to roast the clutch.

Heh starting your car in 5th gear will give you a miagrane with the amount of jolting you will be subjected to.

I once heard this really powerful Chevy in my area had to take off in 3rd when draging, so he wouldn't brake the diff all time time.

I've got some problems with starting my GT-one Race Car(1300+HP),in All Stars Pro the other fully modded gt-one is starting faster than mine, who has some settings for this car?? :)
