We've been having warm weather in Scotland the past few days so I've decided to shave with cold water rather than the usual hot water. I haven't noticed much of a difference though. I remember in Good Morning Vietnam they say something about using warm water is bad for the skin or something. So, do you use hot, warm, cold or no water when you shave?

More thread revival, eh? All right, I'll bite.

I go back and forth on shaving. If I don't really care how I look (for work) I use my Braun Activator. If I'm going out with the wife (or my recent TV appearance) and want to look a bit nicer, I pull out the blade. After a few years of experimenting, I've decided that it really doesn't matter what I use. Two, 3, 4 or 5 blades - all are about as smooth as the next and after 3 days of growth, look and feel the same as well. Only the higher the blade count, the more expensive.

As for lubes, I use Edge Advanced Gel - Sensitive Skin and finish with Neutrogena Razor Defense Post Shave Lotion.

This is what I use:

I use a "Wilkinson Sword Protector 3D Diamond" (Nothing like a good marketing name) and some Tesco brand shaving foam, simply because it's what my dad uses.

Never used an electric, though something I'll have to try.

I use to use a Remington Electric razor, but found that I could never get a close shave, so I graduated to a razor and gel.

I've been baby butt smooth every since. :sly:

Not that I know what a baby butt feels like, its just a term i've heard.

not too long ago i had to start shaving
:sly:
and well i use a regular razor and shaving gel. not sure why people say that shaving is hard as i have yet to knick myself.

This thread was a fine, but rare example of me postwhoring. Those were the days.

Since I got a free sample in the mail, I've been using the standard Gillette Fusion. Those 5 blades are work great, and the cartridge lasts about 6 weeks a piece until it's not a smooth shave anymore. Plus, it's got that nifty little edge on the back for trimming all those places that huge head can't reach.

Going for the ol' Verdi, eh?
More like a Al Borland. If I don't shave for a few weeks, than yes, it's a Verdi.

I use to have a Zakk Wylde (both hair and beard) but I shaved it all off about two years ago.

Now, I've got a "wife admitted Al Borland 'sweetie'" look about me.

I'm planning on shaving it all off again, soon. I think this will be a yearly event for the summer season from now on.

i noticed more people here use shaving gel than cream... what's better about shaving gel? I've always used shaving cream+mach3 razor.

I use it because i think 'Nitro Gel' sounds cool, plus i got it free with the razor.

Gillette Fusion eh? I'll have to check that out.

It doesn’t have a gerky stench which some creams leave behind, and it's just.... generally better
I've recently moved onto Mach3 (Turbo  ) + gel. It’s the way to go 👍

Wow, I've seen metrosexuals that use less creams and stuff than you do. And I believe "lube" is a sex-related word ;)

I shave like a real man. I prepare my face with coarse grit sandpaper, rub salt in it, then, to shave, I leap between two large industrial strength fans. My aftershave lotion is anything with a lot of alcohol in it and, or, has a skull and crossbones on the cover.

My method isn't on there! I use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream.

Since when is using a shaving gel and after shave too much? The wife doesn't mind, either. :sly:

As for the "lube" comment, you'd think being at a mostly car based forum, you wouldn't get comments like that...

welcome to GTP... a different kind of car forum.

meh, who am I kidding. I have a beard so I shave very little anyways.

I dont shave a whole lost since is a PITA. But when i have to i use a regular razor and shaving cream, or gel. Im not sure what it is. It comes out as a thin piece of string, then you apply it and it lathers up good and goes all white, then looks like whipped cream. Anyway this stuff is good and i get no irritation or anything.

1) Wash face with warm/hot water.

2) Apply lots of nick/cuts resistant gel(by edge, I think).

3) Shave mostly down to up, using Mach 3.

Once in a while, I use my Braun electric shaver. My next razor is going to be the new Fusion. I like that precision back blade. I need it. Mach 3 is a great razor, but it can not manuever well in tight spots, especially under the nose.
