So, how do you think they backup saves will be implemented?
Reason I ask is because recently I was told over the phone by a sony rep to delete my install data (not save data), anyways long story short, blu-ray drive died (see thread here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=141950) So now I'm wondering, since I can't get GT5 to install since the blu-ray drive wont work, and there is that update coming soon to back up your game save, do you think we'll need to load up the game to update it too that? because well, I can't even get my discs to read in the first place, so not sure how well that would do, is it worth to even buy a whole new blu-ray assembly? assuming that is the only problem with my PS3, (didn't really want to buy a whole blu-ray unit for 70 bucks and find out there was something else wrong) It just really stinks they told me to delete my game data and re install and now I can't even get the game to install normally, but I do have the save data still on the PS3, but if it requires me to load the game to get the (Requires an update) message.
So do I buy a blu-ray drive? and if so will there be a way to get my save file backed up without being able to load the disc to get the update since I don't have an install file anymore? Or is it just better for me to buy a slim and get a bundle (Was thinking about it), I was 54% into GT5 with 5,400km and like 130 cars and had golded 35 licenses and golded 90% of the challenges (including that top gear challenge......)
So I ask the community here, what would you do?
As for how they are Implemented, I think they should be able to tell by your sign in ID (that I'm at 54% for example) and be able to use that as a tie to my account, and then if i reinstall my game on another PS3, signing into that account via PSN would unlock that games saves back to where you were by a small file, wife and I were talking about that, that would seem the most common sense way to make it so the save files are tied to a PSN and therefore can still be helpful and people wont abuse it and start making save files available online, which is the whole reason the gamesaves were protected anyways.
Edit : I mean if they have a profiler on gran-turismo.com now where you can see your game % and everything online, I see no reason why they can't tie a PSN to a game save and just download a little file to unlock your file that was saved online.
