Not entirely sure if this is the right place for this thread (would it be more appropriate in the Tuning Section?), but it's a question that I'd like to find an answer to: How do different sectors of the GT community tune or upgrade their cars?

Though it has been criticised for being 'simple' and 'unrealistic' at times, GT5's tuning options do a decent job of catering to must people's needs. For instance, if you're a drifter, a lap time addict or a 'slap on everything' kind of player, the game does a good job of dealing with your wants.

So, without repeating the question too many times, how do you personally tune your cars in GT5? Comment below and vote in the poll. I'm interested in seeing what the results end up being!

Depends on what I am tuning and why, I don't just tune for the h*ll of it. Some I tune for certain events. Some I tune only mildly so I can return to stock if I want. Others, like most race cars that I use I tune and retune for specific tracks.

I keep most of my cars stock, or at least with minor mods. With so many cars to choose from, it's much easier to change cars and fiddle with settings.

I only tune cars for specific events where it's impossible to be competitive with a stock vehicle.

Having been an online pp racer, I used to tune various cars to meet the different pp classes only to find that the cars ended up driving the same.
The only thing that would separate them was the drivetrain and the noise they made (in some instances, even this was eradicated with tuning).

Now i enjoy driving stock cars on slippy tyres both online and in seasonals.

However, the new PDA system is about to change everything again.
I am currently squeezing everything from a Prius!
Who would have thunk it :)

I don't tune at all because A) I don't have a clue how to and B) I love to drive my cars stock.

I tune cars in pretty much every way sans drifting and drag. That said, I have plenty of stock cars in my garage.

I generally build a few versions of car I really like, one with the 3 stage engine mod and weight reduction done, which is not reversible, and one with only bolt-on parts so it can be put back to stock. On the bolt-on car I tune everything in the A tune tab, then switch to B and everything is stock

I max everything then apply my general set up to all my carsie. General suspension set up, gearbox settings etc...

I have a stock version of all my premium cars, as well as a 2nd lightly tuned "track day" version with bolt ons only, and maybe some wheels. I only have 10 or so fully tuned cars. IMO they are unrealistic and foolish looking. If we could actually make them race cars, it would be a different story.

I tune my cars for track, drifting, drag, and I tune my cars with a wheel.yeah I'm good at drifting and I drive with no aids on

I only do minor adjusments for most races, heavy modifications if im tuning for endurance races.

Most cars I keep stock though, only tweaking the gear ratio.

I tune specifically for 450-550pp online on Nurburgring and that's it. What parts I add depends on how far off the stock car is away from the target PP. My tranny is tuned for this track. I generally favour HP over weight mods. I *never* detune (limit power by more than 3%) for Nurb. I *never ever* add aero to street cars. The last 3 make for slow(er) cars on Nurb in PP limited rooms.

I tune for drag racing & pure acceleration then, if I want to turn it into a track car, I'll change the suspension setup to make it handle better on cornering.

i tune for various things, i run touge 420-600 pp on custom tracks and nurb. i drift comfort tires on various courses, even the much dispised awd .
i run wangan 550-600pp highway races on ss5, ss7 and ssX.
i try to tune 2 of the same car differently (like a turbo vs all motor)
i like to tune overlooked cars for shock factor.

I tune cars generally for league racing, or seasonal races. Otherwise I try to tune to keep within specific classes like GT500, 300 or LMP.

I only tune for drifting. Races can be won with stock cars, but it takes a little fiddling to get a good drift car most of the time.

About 90% of the racing I do is for leagues so I tune my cars towards the pp restrictions on those races. The other 10% of my racing is spent on the seasonals. I don't tune much for those, I just find a car that will work and meet the criteria for whatever seasonal race. Like the 650 pp race at The Ring, I have tuned the 787B for that. It's a money making machine.

I tend to do more tuning for B-spec. A-spec I like to keep things close to stock.

Though I do have a number of cars that I spend endless time tweaking for a perfect balance of handling and power for specific kinds of tracks. These I usual drive for nothing more than pure pleasure in practice mode and free drives. Mostly low to medium power classics, oddities, exc.

I have little interest in max power

I tune cars just for the full HP and PP I can get from it and tune a car or 2 for restrictions.

I tune cars to an extent. For example, I wouldn't tune a Ferrari 512BB I would leave it stock like I do with some of my cars.

Forgot to mention that I would tune cars in a pointless and silly manner. I tuned a VW Samba bus to tip over at every turn and put an insane amount of camber and fully lowered my GS300 just for giggles.

550pp racing around the nurburgring is popular so I tune 550pp road cars to become one of the fastest drivers online in 550pp racing on the nurb.

I always keep a completely stock version of a car in my garage. For some cars, I buy another one or two and tune and/or upgrade them. E.g. yesterday I bought another Ferrari Italia and made a GT3 version of it by just aplying stage 3 weight reduction (and buying tyres, trany & suspension) and not touching anything else. Today I'm gonna be fiddling with the suspension to get the most of it. :)

There's also a difference in tuning and upgrades. In my dictionary, upgrade means increasing power & reducing weight, whille tuning means setting up the trany & suspension. Yesterday I finished the 4 hours Nurburgring race with a stock Viper ACR '08 with just trany & RH tyres.

I just copy tuning set ups published in the tuning forum, there wasn't a poll option for that so I didn't bother voting.

Did you win the 4Hr or just finish?
I've won with cca 1 minute lead using clutch + H-shifter, though I'm not the best driver and I've made some mistakes (4 times out of track). So for a more experienced driver this combination would be a piece of cake. ;)
As I recall, three of my 26 laps I've done in around 8:55 - 8:56, other "second laps" (on the same tyres) around 9:00, "third laps" around 9:10 and out-of-the-pits laps around I think 9:20 - 9:35 (?) being dependent on how much fuel I took. I messed up badly in lap 23 (second lap out of the pits) ended up shredding my tyres and being forced to visit the pit a lap early. And I slowed down a but in lap 26 for the timer to expire not to have to make lap 27. :)

Sometimes I do that to, especially for 600+ pp cars, though sometimes a set-up from the internet might not be the best for you as you might have a different driving style as the tuner. ;) For slower cars I prefer to find the set-up by myself using Grand Valley Speedway.

Great job on the 4hr win with the stock viper!
