It's to hard i just got my DFGT i didn't get the logitech g27 because it didn't have the ps buttons but how the heck do you control a steering wheel please help :( i wanna get use to it. Been using controller since i was little so i never used a wheel before well i did sorta but that logitech g25 didn't work so i never tried it before. Anyways how can i use it please help me

Practise, practise, practise, practise, practise......... and repeat. :)

Yes it will take time and you will get frustrated to the point of smashing everything, but the rewards will make it worth while :)

its just to dang hard can you teach me i can't drift for crap anymore... i drifted better with a controller...

It takes a long time to get used to drifting with a wheel, it's a whole different ball game, even the whole technique is different.

First thing you should learn is to use the force feedback as actual feedback, let it tell you how much to turn the wheel to keep the car sliding "straight" (an oxymoron, I know) and after that you can start balancing it, press the throttle to turn the car in, and turn the wheel "out" to turn the car out (but this I think you knew already).

To get the hang of this, it's very important to be able to turn the wheel very quickly. At first it's hard to figure out where you should have your hands on the wheel to turn it quickly and smoothly to the direction you want. Throttle control is also mega important but I think there's no difference in technique when comparing wheel to ds3.

Here is a video that might be useful. It's not strictly drifting, but there's certainly some driftin techniques and maybe it can give you some tips, don't know but you could try placing your hands at different places of the wheel when initiating a drift. Try taking the wheel by the bottom so you can quickly turn it 180 degrees and then work your way back with the other hand.

It takes a lot of practice, but I'm sure you'll learn it quick and the moment you get the first perfect drift you can't stop anymore. Trust me. 👍

Turn left to go left, turn right to go right, press the right pedal to go FASTER and the left pedal to stop

What car are you trying to drive.. if it's something powerful... I suggest you stop and try something a bit slower...

posted a thread similar another night that got some helpful responses most of which consisted of going back to the old races redoing lisence events, or just create a new user on the playstation and start directly from scratch (i chose the later cause i got 2 alts anyway might aswell show them some GT5 love)

a premium nissan 300zx...
and @Shalkification i tried drifting on NFS Shift 2 and i can't even drift either... the nissan 300zx isn't that fast

Im not a big drifting fan but I can do it better with a controller too. Thing with a controller is its far easier to get full lock on. Its therefore much easier to control.

You will also find it the same online when the "Online Dodgems" start. People playing on controllers will fair much better to getting a shunt than people driving with "realistic" wheels. Going from one lock to the other on a 2.5 turn wheel when the back of an already twitchy super car gets a pit manouver is close to impossible. On a pad though its a simple matter of stick full over one way, full over the other way, back to middle. Takes a fraction of a second.

Drifting appart though im much faster driving standard laps with a wheel. I suppose you start there, get faster with the wheel than the controller. Once you master that try drifting again it will feel much better. As someone pointed out the Licenses are a good point to start.

I struggled when i got my DFGT aswell 3 months or so back. Just keep practising and you'll soon get the hang of it.

I cant drift too good but im getting better at it

I have force feedback setting set to 10 so i can feel when the car starts to lose grip and make the appropriate adjustments to straighten the car out. All i can say is keep practicing and you'll start to see improvements.

Do the licence tests to get used to the wheel.
Also, the AMG academy is a good driving school. It won't help you drifting, but you will improve your control of the car and you will learn to understand what the force feedback is trying to communicate to you.

I've only ever been able to race properly using a wheel. I'm horrible with a controller. Motions are much too jerky and unrealistic. The DFGT is made for GT5 and is one of the smoothest driving experiences I've ever had. I'd be lost without it. Once you adapt to it I'll bet you say the same. Play with the settings. Start out with minimal feedback so it isn't fighting you as much. Once you get used to it you can increase it for a greater experience.

No, but I'd actually suggest using either 4wd or ff car. you don't have to worry about the back end coming out of corners... might be easier to learn.

I can drive normal i can't drift is all but on nfs shift 2 my driving sucks with a controller a little better but not much. i can't even drift on shift 2 with a steering wheel but possible with controller? I can drift a little on gt 5 now but it's i am still getting use to it... and @Gdoh96 i don't think even if i look at search i will be able to find how to use wheel on shift 2

Luckily (if you would call it that) for GT5 players, torque steer isn't modelled in the game.

Also, why would you pick a DFGT over a G27 for that small detail?

It's basically the same thing it has 900 degree it both has force feedback except shifter sucks and no cluth why would i feel like paying extra more for a thing that does the same thing? If the logitech DFGT didn't have 900 degree or pedals at all i would have picked the logitech g27 besides logitech DFGT has playstation button no need for my controller i can keep that charged while i am using my logitech wheel and when i feel like playing with the controller i can use the fully charged controller :D i don't think that the logitech g27 can do that i would of bought the g27 if the DFGT wasn't that good besides i have $600 to blow on anything :sly:

I suggest you put all aids on, except stability control, since it slows you down (but it could help you). When I got my wheel in december, I removed all assists, like I do on the controller, but I kept crashing and I was like: "How can I keep the car in a straight line, heck, I can't even take a corner without spinning and ending in the barrier"... Then I stopped using the wheel and kept going at the DS3 (control pad). Then I had an idea... "why shouldn't I use assists ? who cares ? Do I care ? No. And what will other people say ? Who cares ? The point is to have fun and enjoy the game as well as the wheel you bought. I sure enjoy my G27 now, I've had more fun in the last 2 weeks (got my wheel in dec 2011) with assists on with the G27 than I had with a DS3 from launch day in nov 2010 up to december 2011.

Well, guess what ? With assists on, I have SO much fun, that I think I will never (ok maybe sometimes...) go back to the control pad. That way, you'll have fun and develop your skills. When you feel confident enough, remove the aids you don't want anymore.

G27, stock cars and assists on, GT5 has never been better.

PS. As for drifting, if I'm not mistaken, top players uses the DS3 to do so and I have NFS S2 and drifting is HARD, so don't worry if you cannot do it with a wheel. One thing I miss with the wheel, is that I cannot use the E-brake as much as I did with the DS3...

I can't drift for crap with wheel but I'm alright with DS3. Wheels are pretty hard at start but they get easier the more you use it and makes the game more fun!

I use a DFGT wheel and pedals, but being new to the GT franchise I've never used a game pad so can't compare.

I try to be smooth with the wheel, although I've heard other people really wrenching theirs when I've been online. I started off with steering sensitivity in driving options on 1, now I use 7. Sometimes I use all drivers aids, sometimes I don't use any, it really depends on the car I'm driving. Can't drift to save my life, but as that really is of no interest to me, who cares.

It takes time to get to grips with the wheel set up, but once you do you'll love it.

Go to a small easy track like Tsukuba, get a Miata/MX-5 on Comfort Softs, turn all aids except ABS off and practice practice practice! It'll be frustrating at first, but give it a week and you'll be hooked. Good luck :)

I can grip race but I am getting angry with trying to drift with wheel :ouch: I think I am going to use controller for drift and sometimes wheel to drift but mostly controller to drift and for grip I am fine with the wheel

DUDE!! I was okay at drifting with a DS3, but I am in the same boat as you, I got a wheel for Christmas and started TRYING to drift and, I drift like s#!t! I have the DFGT wheel as well. Go to the main menu and look under options,>wheel settings and adjust the wheel there...I have adjusted the settings and my son can drift just fine!
