How does GTPlanet feel about Hot Wheels?

Hot wheels are basically one of the "gateway" toys that get us interested in cars. For me it went like this:

Age 4 thru 10: Hotwheels & Matchbox cars

Age 7 thru 12: Lego cars

Age 10 thru 14: Models that sit on your shelf and don't do anything but you have to build them.

Age 13 thru 16: Slot cars: AFX & Tyco in my day

Age 13-14: Radio control cars ready-made...all you need are batteries

Age 14-18: RAdio control kit cars (you must build them)

Age 16-17: my first actual car (mid-70's Peugeot 504)

Age 18-26: my first hot rod ('67 Mustang)

Then you start getting older. I went from my sleek Stang to a work truck :indiff:

Age 37: Bought GT1 for my PS1. ;) Hey, what happened to my childhood dreams of becoming a race driver? :dunce:

I still have a few of my Hot Wheels to this day, but they're all scratched and make little ornaments for my room. :)

Maybe when I'm 15, I'll get into Lego cars... my advance up the automotive ladder is badly distorted compared to the chart. But then, I always have been unconventional...

Aged over 30 I just recieved two massive parcels of Lego today, including but not limited to cars. This prompted me to tidy up all the unopened Hotwheels cars I had lying around to make room for these massive boxes.

I got some felt underlay boards - soft like corkboard but thicker and much cheaper, and pinned the Hotwheels packets to them then took a couple of photos.

Now I just need to find somewhere to display the boards...

the hot wheels now are certainly Hotter than they were previously.

and I've only got the ones 10 years ago.

Since I don't have a Job, I doubt i'll be able to collect anymore. However when I am able to move out of the house, I might decide to collect again. i remember i at one point dreamed of getting so many hot wheels, i'd glue them to a wall. I think that's one freakishly cool idea..

Did you ever see those collector's car racks? It may be a trifle easier... Still, an original idea if there ever was one.

The local store that stocked them in this area left, having been there to cash in on the holiday season, so I can't collect for a while. However, I did pick up a 1965 Shelby Cobra from another remote location. The distortion to its features is shameful to my eyes, however...
