Hot wheels are basically one of the "gateway" toys that get us interested in cars. For me it went like this:
Age 4 thru 10: Hotwheels & Matchbox cars
Age 7 thru 12: Lego cars
Age 10 thru 14: Models that sit on your shelf and don't do anything but you have to build them.
Age 13 thru 16: Slot cars: AFX & Tyco in my day
Age 13-14: Radio control cars ready-made...all you need are batteries
Age 14-18: RAdio control kit cars (you must build them)
Age 16-17: my first actual car (mid-70's Peugeot 504)
Age 18-26: my first hot rod ('67 Mustang)
Then you start getting older. I went from my sleek Stang to a work truck
Age 37: Bought GT1 for my PS1.
Hey, what happened to my childhood dreams of becoming a race driver? 
I still have a few of my Hot Wheels to this day, but they're all scratched and make little ornaments for my room.
