Hey everyone what’s up, I’m new to this online racing. I understand there are some very fast drivers and then some slow like me. But when you’re racing in a race that controlled by BOP and basically the playing field is equal and you’re in the same exact car as your competitor. While on a long straightaway I noticed some of the faster competitors just runoff and leave me, can’t be the car everything supposed to be equal is it the speed of the Internet? Or if the PlayStation is Bluetooth to the router or hardwired to the router any help on this subject will help make my slow ass faster . I’m 65 and still racing and I need all the help I can get
Thanks Joe

Internet speed does not affect you.

It affects your opponent but not on what you think. Bad connection will make your opponent occasionally slow down but then goes faster than normal, also known as lagging. And theres opponents jarring conering movement.

Some cars are quicker on the straights, others are better in the corners and some have a bit of both. The BoP does a half decent job but you'll find that some cars are better suited to a certain track than others.

Any other questions you've got, ask away. We were all new once.

...and welcome to GTP.:gtpflag:

You also need to consider that the top tier drivers faster lap time is a result of how they execute a turn. This can result in them carrying more speed through the turn and/ or the ability to accelerate earlier.

Forizon, Kilesa, and Ruddracer really appreciate the get back. Good info, so would it make any difference if I hardwire the PS4 to the router? I’m now connected via Blue tooth.
Thanks Joe

Guess with more seat time it will come together, kind of sucks running in the back.☹️

Hi Joe. Hard wiring won't make you any faster but in my opinion it is a much better way to connect than wifi.
As kilesa4568 and Ruddracer said carring good corner speed into the straights is key. It does take time to get there but it will come.

If you woulld like to join in with some other guys that are 60 and up for some easy going fun racing while getting that seat time.

Some of us are fast some are not as fast all of us are willing to help each other get better.
If your compairing your speed with the young guns they still have fast hands and good eyes but don't count us Geezers out.

I think that first you should change your name from Slow Joe to Fast Joe, this may get you a couple of seconds per lap !

( it's a joke :) )

And that BoP don't make all the cars quite equal, some are faster on straights, some are faster on turns, now depends on everyone driving style.
But I understand you, am an old fart, too, maybe our gaming time is over ! :)
Just practice and you will reach your maximum potential !
But consider this: some guys have a natural ability to drive fast, some cold blood is involved in racing games and that's beyond our powers, IMO !

The game pad connects via bluetooth but your console uses wifi when you're not using a network cable. You'll get a more stable connection if you're hardwired.

I should have pointed you to the GEEZER club straight away. Great bunch of fellas. Click on waukazoo's link above and introduce yourself.👍

Again many THANKS TO ALL, yes Slow in and Fast out is key. I've alway been on the WRENCH side of IMSA GTP race teams, alway wanted to DRIVE but could never afford it. So now Finally I'm out there on the track. This is the Funnest & Very Addicting hobby I've been involved in. It's easy to be in the seat and look at the clock and say Oh **** I've been racing for 5 hrs. And what a bonus to discover GTP, with a great bunch of guys.
Thanks again.
Joe

That's great Joe.
Yep it's really a very addictive game. Time flies by.
I relize at 66 I'm too old to jump behind the wheel and race in real life. I would love to try but I'm sure I'd have a hart attack in the heat of battle. Lol
GTS is a great substitute.

My PSN is Wauk-azoo send a friends request to me or geezer1791 next time your on and he or I can help ya get things rolling.
Or a post in the club's thread will get you a warm welcome and info about race times.
I'll be off and on today and this evening as many others in the club will be as well.

The clubs and leagues mentioned WRS, GTP, SNAIL, and others are excellent and very well organized and well worth a look also.

We are a bit more relaxed but a great place to get seat time, hone your skills and have a few laughs along the way.
Looking forward to seeing you on the track.

Connection is mainly about your PING - should be at least lower then 20ms. Anything that happens on track will be visible on your screen after the PING time. And the same for others on track. They won't see your action before its been send over - Called "lag". Your PING or respond time of your connection is what's its all about. There's not too much data being transferred during a race, but how fast you get it and others get your data input is what will affect online experience. A WiFi connection is unstable by its nature. You don't feel it while regularly surfing internet or so but those steady interruptions a non wired connection gives you will be there when you're racing online.
On the other hand, Yep, WRS is a good start point - SNAIL maybe as well. For the timezone here I can't do those. I'm in the WRS and just love it. Best place to learn.

Hello Joe, welcome to online racing! The best advice I can offer you is try to remain consistent. Only 10% of my positions gained are genuine overtakes, the rest are from others leaving the track.

Get seat time, learn the circuits, learn the cars, stay on track. See you out there!

Great advice, I said to myself today if I would just stay on the track, and not spend out, Id do a lot better.
thanks for your advice
