How duping works? Bad data for some?

Think of a car nothing more than a code. For example: Honda.

Original Honda = 0006 Dupe Honda= 0006-01

The idea behind a patch was, in case of data loss you still have the original car. And was not intended for dupe. The code has a preset limit. Once that limit is reached the next person to dupe might end up corrupting his whole game data.

This is what my online friend got when he emailed polyphony.

It was also mentioned that duping is against PSN and GT5 Terms of Use Agreement and can result in permanent ban.

Do you think there is any truth to this?

Permanent from psn or GT servers?

He did not mention, I assume PSN because that way you get locked out of the whole network. If you want to get back on have to get new PS3.

By the way, forgot to mention the best part. He got on free tour of the office next week. If you are in Tokyo area and speak Japanese, they have group tours.

Don't believe it. Psn is free and a big reason some buy a PS. Banning someone just sends there custom elsewhere.

I'm calling porkies.

At the rate people have been duping cars, I call bullocks. The bad data coming from it seems to be unfortunate folks.

You will not get banned from the PSN for duplicating. People on FIFA UT pretend to be EA mods or other staff and ask for PSN account details to give out prizes to try and hack into their PSN and steal their players and these accounts never seem to be banned.

I always thought about something like this. Each car having their own special code because you can buy that car as many times as you like, the game has to know how that car is different. Duping the car would copy the code and all PD has to do is send out a patch to delete all those copied codes. Just a theory of a duping patch fix. Though the perm ban thing I call BS on and also your friend getting a tour. Sureeee...

They'll never simply delete all duplicated cars.

The reason being that perhaps someone unknowingly traded a legitimate car to someone for a duplicated car. The guy who dupes the car gets to keep the car he traded for, meanwhile the "more honest" guy loses a car for unknowingly trading for a duplicated one.

I call shenanigans.

Yeah that is a very valid point. People may suffer as a result and lose cars.

Regarding the tour, I buy it, when I was over there I went to KONAMI and MITSUBISHI HQ for day tour.

On Forza 2 if you had duped cars Turn 10 could corrupt you save and make you start again.

I sincerely hope that this is all rubbish.
Why would PD want to upset a lot of people?
People found a flaw in PD's system and now we're going to be punished for being smart?
And then we'll have to go back to grinding etc.

That's just idiotic. Backing up your file on your thumb drive is not creating an extra code for each car. It's just making a copy of the exact same file that was on your ps3. Same thing as making an extra copy of a file on your computer. Gullible much?

This is where your suggestion first starts to unravel.

Because you are backing up your data what you actually get is:

Original Honda = 0006 Dupe Honda= 0006

The PS3 has no idea whether your car has been duped.

I know nothing of coding but even I can see how this works.

The cars are stored in the same folder. If you put the same car in there how can ps3 tell the diffrence between 1 and the other if they have same code? Think of a camputer file when you try put 2 identical files in the same folder. They will be renamed or one of them gets deleted and replaced.

Logic here is the same. It is possible to ID duped cars. The question is will they go as far as to enforce Agreements and ban people on top of deleting dupes. They already have 60 mil sales what do they care.

So what happens when I buy a second of the same car? What happens if I win the same car I already have? What happens if someone gifts me their 0006 car and I already have a 0006 car?

The problem with not knowing about coding but seeing how it works is you proabably also don't realize all the nuances of why it wouldn't work ;)

Look at Ebay! So many cars get sold ant that is "unfair" money making. It´s not how it was mend to be and would be impossible without duplicating cars and thats the reason why I think PD and Sony could really ban some accounts. But I never heard from a banned PS account. But to be honest I don´t understand people who buy cars at ebay.

That probably should have been the end of your post.

The ability to track duplicated cars is possible, but unlikely given the way gifting cars works (when a car shows up it's a ticket). I don't honestly think PD cares about duping. Why would they? It does absolutely nothing to their business model.

The ONLY situation where they would care about duplicating cars is if/when they make paid DLC cars... And I'll bet they won't be giftable.

Considering that PD are well aware of people having some trouble gaining a lot of the cars in the game (evident by the increased payouts, online dealer, now unrestricted events all to make things a bit easier), I don't think they care that people are duplicating cars to get what they want.

They may not like it, but I don't think they'll be banning anyone over it anytime soon.
