How extensive is engine/car degradation?

I have been doing an experiment where I take a supra and run Like the wind 3 over and over with it. And I am wondering if my car will degrade to the point where I cannot win the race anymore.
So as part of my experiment I'm not going to change the oil or anything.

So if anyone already has an answer to this that would be great, otherwise I will keep testing it. And as a side bonus make 140k credits each time!

Also as a side note. The supra is a great car to grind with because it is pretty cheap to repair,if you ever actually need to that is. Which I guess I will find out from doing this experiment in the first place.

Supra's Stats:
ODO: Over 1000KM
Max Power 893HP
PP:608

I don't know about how extensive degradation is but I do know this...my Corvette ZR1 CO6 LM Race Car needed the body restored after 892 miles. In the pit service area it said 'body is starting to deteriorate'. That's messed up...less than 1000 miles and the body starts to crap out...oh well

I think it kicks in due to a combination of
a) mileage - around 350-400 miles or km equiv.
b)"player interaction" - ie, how abused is it? slam the wall a few dozen times? Roll it a few times? etc?

My take is to take the long view and look at it as a maintenance cost, like oil changes, even if it's a bit more expensive than an oil change. A car driven on normal surface roads at "posted" speed isn't going to need the amount of maintenance a performance car will. Of course, that's not very comforting when you have to plop down 500K for a racecar restoration, but knowing or accepting that ahead of time can make one consider how they drive (Hmm... how do I use this car as a performance vehicle AND minimize wear?).

Again, admittedly cold comfort if you have that flag up right now, but fwiw and future consideration...

I'm not sure about this body deterioration. My go to car for Like The Wind etc is the 2J, it has done over 600 miles. I got the "body is starting to deteriorate" message at about 300 miles...it still shows the same message and I have yet to notice any difference whatsoever with it. It still accelerates the same, top speeds the same and corners the same (though admittedly I haven't driven it on a "real" track for a while....may have to test it at Monaco with it's corners and see)

idk. It may or not actually do something and yes, it could just be psychology at work ;) Anyway, I go on the principle it does, and I do to some degree feel a difference (I definitely see a lap time difference, often tenths or more faster with it in tip-top shape compared with laps just prior to the maintenance), but yes, it could always be placebo.

Anyway, I don't think the car's going to become undrivable without doing the maintenance (race cars are pretty expensive to fix), so it's not going to be a pronounced effect, but it probably isn't quite as nimble with the deterioration flag showing. I could be wrong.

sidenote: that reminds me of something I like about the less-than expensive cars in Gran Turismo. Their maintenance costs are so low in comparison to "standard" payouts that I can baby them for their entire existences without ever having to resort to grinding. Engine rebuilds and chassis alignments are chump change, cost for doing both as a set is on par with an Aspec race or two.

Until someone I trust proves otherwise through emperical testing, I'm going to assume it's miniscule, linear, and directly correlates with mileage as opposed to how you drive the car as it was in GT5. It's a waste of money on every car IMO unless you put thousands and thousands of km's on it.

The engine starts deteriorating at 5000km. I restored the engine of my Huayra '13 AE after 6200 km or 3852.5 miles. If i remember correctly it's in this mileage when the engine start losing power but just very little. About 10-20kph if i remember. My Huayra's top speed is 485 no nos and no drafting.

Doesn't seem like the engine degrades all that much. I drove almost 1800 kilometers in my 908 without every changing oil or buying a new engine, yet it still seems to produced the same output. Couldn't tell any difference when I finally changed the oil, which btw, was shown as being in good condition.

Of course it makes sense that the engine would still be fine, but in GT5, the process of engine and oil degration was way faster.

The engine of my RUF CTR started degrading at about 700 km, so I overhauled it at that point. Now I'm at 1700 km and it's still in good condition. At some point after the first overhaul I changed the tune to, and since then I've been running with a 50% engine limiter, maybe that has an effect on the degradation?
