I am wondering with all the different prize cars you get for licences and races, how far can you get through GT5 withought spending a single credit?

I am going to try this and set out some rules:
No spending credits on anything
No trading
B-Spec is included

I would love to see others try this and post their progress.

You have to buy a car at the start of the game.

Also, have a read through this.

IIRC GT5 forces you to buy a car before you can do anything. I started with the Stealth cars and the Chrome line cars in my garage, yet I still had to buy something

I suppose you're right, it's been a while since I started my game. But as the other guy said, now you get the GT.

What about Remote racing? I'm sure you can access that.
Irrelevant. That will only get you money and, as you're trying to go through the game without spending anything, what good will that do?

You can start with a birthday ticket...make an account from a good year and you get your car for free so you don't need to buy one...there is no rule against duping so you can get your favorite car out of your ticket...

I know a few people did this in GT4 -

On the Numbers (GTBN) forum one driver used a modern Elise for every race he could manage.

I had a second save where I tried to use as few cars as possible. But GT4 had many more races, So getting a car to do multiple events was more of an adventure. The Dealership events was the trick as you had to buy/ acquire some real one trick pony cars. I suppose in theory you could do the entire game and only buy a single car.

But you would need to race alot, win a few 1000 tickets and get pretty lucky when you cashed it in to win a Pick up truck or a LMP , DTM and JGTC car.

I have just checked, and you cannot do anything without purchasing a car. I started a new game on another account I have and even though I have all the stealths and all the chrome line and the GT86, the game still requires you to buy a car before you enter A spec, B spec, licenses & special events.

I actually did this back in GT2. I golded all of the licenses first, then only used those and prize cars to win all of the races. Sometimes, of course, my car was waaaaay over-powered for some of the races, but usually because it was the only car that I had that would meet the specific requirements (FF, MR, FR, etc.) of some of the races.

I got pretty far into the game before I got bored, but I logged every "game day" in a notebook with the race/event run, car used, car won, credits won, and rolling credits total to show no credits had been spent along the way.

Also, the game didn't force you to buy a starting car back then. So, I'm thinking, if the minimal is spent on a first car, starting off with golding all of the licenses should yield enough cars to get the ball rolling on this. The first hurdle though, is the Racing Kart. I think you have to purchase the first one, if you don't have the DLC ones for a new account.

Without DLC or gifting, you can win the game with only buying 7 cars. Of course, some races may be very tough, and you'll rely on B-Spec for some nice cars (ie Furai)

This.

I tried when I first got the game to avoid buying one-trick-ponies but gave up when the events got too specific. Most of the prize cars never get used since they usually match the restrictions of the event you raced to win them. It would have been more fun if the FF Cup gifted you a FR car and the FR Cup gifted you a Euro classic, etc etc, so you could be prepared for the next event by getting gold on the previous event.

If I remember right, the best initial car is the Cappuccino. You need it for one of the races. The license tests will give you a lot of the rest.

Must buys if I remember correctly: Cappuccino, Formula GT, Nascar (If you're like me and can't win the stupid Nascar challenge), Ferrari, Lamborghini Gallardo, Touring car

With those cars and the license test cars, you can win everything else you need to finish the game.

Good idea. And it shouldn't be the same car every time. How about a random car matching the regulations of the next event that is close to the performance level of other cars in that event.

I used to love the 4 car turntable of GT... 3 or 4? of course, in those you would win the prize car every time you raced instead of a one-time prize.
