How good are you with a wheel?

I got the GTF wheel a few weeks ago and I've never looked back. It's like a whole other world.
I sold my wife on the idea saying it would be much better for my poor aching hands than the controller. (I'm a CAD operator, prone to tendonitis, etc.)

Hope that works for some of you!

what is this pad that you talk about . wheel is only thing i know you can drive with

^^^+1 :)
I am seriously rubbish with a pad. I've been playing with wheels since GT1 (go the MadCatz :p)

I am using the Driving Force GT. Great because you can actually turn some driving characteristics on and off, or adjust them while driving, such as TSC, ASM, BRake bias front and rear, and front/rear torque. Handy sometimes after you've changed venues and forgot to tune the car for the track/venue.

You can edit the aids on-the-fly/mid-race with a DFP too (but admitably, not as cool with the dials on the DFGT :p).
I've assigned X to bring up/cancel the menu, L2/R2 for adjusting each aid+/-, and L3/R3 for cycling through each aid.
I agree with it being handy if you're pounding out laps learning a car, and just want to adjust the aids :)

When i mentioned to the wife that i wanted a PS3 with a wheel, she was a little hesitant......but as is with all things with us, it's give and take. She said if that makes you happy and you enjoy it, knock yourself out...... but pay it off over a month.

I was happy with that deal, so here i am. PS3, G25 and a Playseat on the horizon.... a new 22" Asus HDMI monitor is on the way within a week also. As for the DS3..... if i wasn't so lazy and walked to the PS3 to turn it off........ it would be in the bin by now.

I love GT5P, and my wife.

Ive been playing with my controller for awhile and just got my g25 set up yesterday. Used the triangle button to activate the clutch each race, and Ive been using that to drive. First few races I was terrible but after a couple hours I am within 2-3 seconds of my controller times. Hopefully Ill be able to beat my controller times eventually, but after only one night, I think thats progress.

What are you better with (controller or wheel) and by how much?

You're comparing times when driving in the professional mode (no to minimal assist), yes?. In the pro mode- the steering wheel wins hands down. But in the amateur setting with assist on, the gamepad is actually faster in some coursed (Eiger, for example), But then again, I don't drive in amateur mode witht the steering wheel ever (what's the point). If you haven't done this already- in the option setting, you can change the mode of the steering wheel: amateur, professional and simulation. Set it to simulation for even better immersion.

 You have a DFP yes? I think you need to alter the settings in the options menu, because I had to drastically alter the feedback down because my forearms and wrists were aching after as little as 20 minutes racing - I felt like Popeye with some dud spinach! :yuck:

Actually I have the GT and wish the feedback was stronger. It's a weird thing. When I am losing traction and lets say the rear is starting to come around, if I turn the wheel in the opposite direction at all I don't get much feedback. I'd expect more of a resistance when I am counter-steering. What ends up happening is I usually over-correct due to the lack of feel.

Well, seeing as I been driving with th e wheel(GT4 DFP) for 3 years. I guess I'm pretty good now..

Wheel - O.K. to O.Kish
Controller - O.K to miserable. With cars having 250-300 HP or less I'm O.K - With cars having more than 250-300 HP and MR or RW, I'm the unintended doughnut King!
