How grainy?

drpepper, I don't notice any graininess at all, it's just as crisp and clear as any regular TV image. One question: How close do you sit to your tv? You can't sit as close to it as the computer, even HD has its limits :D

I actually sit about 2 ft away or so, and boy does the image look good from across the room :sly: How far away should I sit? Possibl 3 ft or so? I have it on an old computer desk with my DFP hooked up.

Also, when I switch to 16:9 it makes the cars and everything else horribly skinny. I posted a link to the Television above, it is not a widescreen. Thank you for the responses guys :)

Well I purchased some Gamelink 400 Monster cables last night and when I plug them into the Y, R, and B connections on my TV & the screen will display but flicker and jump around. Any ideas? They are not the cheapest cables, and would like to put them to some use :sly:

I don't really recall that grainy on my TV, but more an interlaced problem...

You can see it on the fence in the right.

Wow that looks terrible. My screen is really pixelated, and I would almost venture to say that my Gamecube produces smoother/less pixelated graphics than my PS2. I wish I could get my Monster cables to work, any ideas?

What I recommend for the best picture is a HDTV with a CRT tube.

CRT tube still have the most vibrant color you can get when it come to picture quality.

crts are heavy and big, but picture is far superior with no (!!) burn in. I have a 36 sony wega, huge tv, 200 lbs, but the picture is worth it. anyway, your component cables are not working? are there any settings for the screen? example, my tv can switch between interlaced and progressive, as well as 480, 720, and 1080 res. maybe one of those is set incorectly?

my friends make fun of me cause they have the flat "bling bling" tv's, i think they are over rated.

If you have an ebgames near you, you might be able to find the madcatz component cable. it's only 14.99. it makes a very noticeable difference especially, everything is brighter and clarity/sharpness is much better than composite. I don't know how it compares to the $50 psyclone cables though.

Mr. Deap, how'd you capture such a sharp gt4 image (beside the deinterlacing)? Is that from a tv capture card? if so, what brand? and what cables are you using?

@ Dr Pepper
On my TVs, a 32inch Sony Wega Trinitron and a 28inch Samsung Dynaflat Pro Widescreen, (both are CRTs) the component cable works fine.
You should have a 5 way cable. G, R & B cables connect to the TVs G, R & B inputs and you have the white & red audio lines too. Make sure not to mix the red audio & video signals! Also on both of my TVs, there's a special channel for the component inputs which is different to the regular input. Make sure you check which component sockets you're using and that they all correspond to the same channel. Some TVs have more than 1 component input, and if you were to get 2 of the component colours into 1 channel and the 3rd colour into a different channel, that would certainly give you trouble.
Can you give us a better description of the type of shaking you're seeing along with some more details about the TV you're attempting to use?

S-video on the Capture card.

the capture card is a AGP Video card called the All In Wonder 9800 Pro. I guess those All In Wonder PCI card product do the same work.

Though on my CRT JVC I'art 27 inch(Not HDTV) on component look way much better than that shoot.

Dr Pepper, to fix your problems just boot the PS2 up without a disc in the drive, and go into Settings. You need to tell the PS2 that you are using component video (YCrCb/YPrPb) rather than the default setting (which I think is RGB?). Then things should work correctly.

With respect to the image quality discussion, I can honestly say that I have NEVER been able to notice any difference between composite (RCA) and S-Video, so my advice is not to bother with S-Video. However, the jump to component is worth it, as the difference is huge, especially with respect to colour bleeding.

I have a 27" LCD that doesn't support HDTV (using YCrCb through a SCART connector), and GT4 is especially grainy on it during racing (not replays) compared to other PS2 games, including other racing games like Midnight Club 3. However, I do sit less than 2' from the screen (no space to sit further back unfortunately). The problem I guess is that LCDs are much sharper, and so some defects in the graphical filter being used are more apparent as opposed to CRT and projectors, where you get a softer and slightly blurrier picture. This seems to vary by game. For example, the graphics filter in Resident Evil 4 looks great on my LCD, but absolutely shocking on my friend's projector.
