I mean, I've heard opinions that its very similar to Forza, and its not that much of a simulator.
Not that its a bad thing... I dont really care much about how much of a sim is a game as long as it's fun to play.

Another thing, I have an AMD Athlon dual core with a 6570 graphics card, is it enough for this game? Thanks.

In my opinion, the driving is an absolute joy. As a game, it is incomplete as it is still early access. There is AI but it's still very unrefined. It gets continually upgraded along with the rest of the game though. And it's definitely a sim.

Obviously the car list leaves a lot to be desired if you're used to car lists like GT's and Forza's. But the cars are all lovely to drive.

Here's the minimum requirments for the game:
  • OS:Windows Vista,7,8,8.1
  • Processor:AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHZ, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ
  • Memory:2 GB RAM
  • Graphics:DirectX 10.1 (AMD Radeon HD 6450, Nvidia GeForce GT 460)
  • DirectX:Version 11
  • Network:Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive:15 GB available space
  • Sound Card:Integrated

Short answer. Dont know who you have been speaking to but its nothing like forza. One of if not the best handling and tire models ive driven, and i own them all. Worthy of building a pc specifically for this.

Guess it wasnt a short answer after all.

I might give it a try... My PC is only a bit better than the minimum requirements but oh well. Im a GT fan but I'm always opened to new things. I've heard that there's the old monza track which I would love to drive. I dont know if there's the oval aswell but its cool to drive on old tracks.

Assetto Corsa is a sim and the best out at the moment. The BMW Z4 GT3 sounds like the real car. AC just lacks the cars and tracks ex: like Simbin, ISI, or iRacing.

Just like the post above say, it's lacking on car count and tracks, but if you check the official forum of AC, there's a lot of work in progress quality mod like the Lamborghini Balboni, Red bull F1, Mazda Miata, RX7, Agera R, Porsche 911's, and more. Also there's Trial mountain, Top gear test track, some touge tracks, and more to come. And some are just waiting for the modding tool, but there's already one rally track that's been transferred from richard burns rally by an awesome modder Kegetys.

Joux plane

P.S: It's not an easy track if you're a beginner...I learned the hard way by dying (virtually) from a steep cliff...

Completely different level of sim compared to Forza and almost the the same with all PC sim's. The steering feels more 1:1 as compared to a real car and any sim I have played. It doesn't take laps to get the feel of it and can focus more on the racing line vs. trying to stay on the track. Almost every other sim feels flat on ffb/ffb effects compared to AC.

I bought this game last week and absolutely loving it. I came from mainly playing Gran Turismo and Forza. I had doubts if my computer was going to be able to run it too, but it runs it at pretty high settings with no problems at all. Here is what I'm running it on...

HP xw6400
2x Xeon 5160 (3.0ghz/dual core)
8gb DDR2-5300
120gb Sandisk SSD
Radeon 5850 HD

...it's not as fast as you think with the dual Xeon's, about as fast as a lower end i3/i5 I think.

Make sure you are ready to part with GT games. After a week with assetto you will be unable to go back.

Also, forza 5 is more of a simulator than GT6.

Im 37 years old and have always enjoyed racing sims, back from Richard Burns rally,
Live for speed, NetKar pro etc. etc.

Im a Project Cars member, so have some vested intrest in Pcars,
Ive run a high level league on GT5/6 for 3 years www.TheAutomotiveMayhem.com
( ^ which will be going to Assetto Corsa when the online aspects turn up ^ )
I also use Rfactor2, Simraceway etc. etc.
Ive tried most of the ones you could think of other than iracing

And personnaly i think Assetto is very top of the pile 👍

Good enough recomendation?

I just tried Assetto Corsa, and first of all I couldn't make the PC Controller work, and second, LOL, how do you want to keep playing it if it has only a handful or cars and a handful of tracks? This is almost no content.

I'll keep playing GT6.

Imo PD have always gone "Quantity over Quality" , if the basics are on the money like in Assetto then ill be patiently waiting for whatever they offer.

But there is no right answer to what you prefer, if your getting your kicks out of GT6 then its all good :)

Having said that, i have always believed the good games ( of any type ) that give the community a creative outlet
(e.g. modding) will stay alive for ages, when the modding community gets in full flow with Assetto there should be a huge variety of content...... cant wait to see what the mod community come up with!

GT6, unlike some people think, has life for a very very long time because of the new physics and thanks to having sooo many cars and tracks you can create an inmense amount of race combinations and rules, and you can keep on playing for years.

Yep i agree, it does have a huge selection

New physics don't equal good physics. I'd rather drive with 30 some awesome driving cars or whatever it is AC offers than 1,000 plus mediocre or less than mediocre driving cars of GT. To each there own though. Quality>quanity to me everytime.

I even get better frame rates on AC then on GT. That's the sad thing to me. A game developed specifically for a machine don't even play right. I know they'll get it right for GT7 or 8 or 9 or etc....

The version that everyone is playing is a early access preview of the first version. Imagine how the beta/test version of Gran Turismo 1 or Forza 1 would have been. Gran Turismo has taken 16+ years to build up to 1200 cars.

AC is the best thing thats happened in a car sim for me, and for you to think its even on the same league as GT6 and Forza, you must be on drugs. Even though there's only a few cars and tracks in AC, it plays extremely well, each car actually has their own unique feel unlike GT6/Forza. I rather take quality over quantity any day. I've been hooked on AC ever since I started playing it and haven't touched GT6 at all. AC has really raised the bar high for me and my expectations of future car sims has changed because of AC. Kunos is such an amazing small team that I find it even more amazing what they can manage to do. I'm looking forward to each and every update. It just gets better and better.

You are right, assetto is not for you.
What do you mean by this? First of all as I said, I cant play it with my controller so playing it with keyboard is almost impossible to control. Second, yes, I wont keep on playing a game that has like 10-12 cars and 4 tracks.

The thing is that the PS3 is no match for a decent PC. It is an old and underpowred machine for today standards. PD or any other developer can't do miracles. Yes they will obviously get it right for GT7 and PS4.
After playing both here's how I rate quality/quantity of both games ATM:
GT6: quality: 7,5/10 - quantity: 9,5/10
AC: quality 9/10 - quantity: 2/10

hmmmm no... it hasnt taken 16 years. GT6 has taken 3 years (after GT5 was released)

How do you even expect to appreciate a racing sim without a wheel?

GT6 has a ton of cars which mean nothing to me. It's just a lot of great 3d models with nothing under the hood. Most of them handle and sound nothing like the real thing. It is a car design encyclopedia.

It's obvious you favor quantity over quality so AC is not for you.

Even in version 0.7 AC has AI I can actually race and an event creator...

You really need to, and I can't stress this enough, play it with a wheel. That goes for any sim. Gt6 as well.

You lose out of so much enjoyment and feel if you're just playing with a controller.

I agree with snoopybg and Encylopedia, but a racing/driving sim without using a wheel, especially this generation is missing a lot of enjoyment and fun out of it.. Also content wise, you have to take into account the modding community of AC (A lot of them coming from Rfactor modding). Once the modding tool is out, expect to make AC put GT6 (or any sim out there besides Rfactor) into shame, content wise.

A wheel is not the only way to control a car. Lots of people play racing games using the traditional controller with a joystick and you can certainly play them. Also not everyone can afford a good wheel. Or they can afford it but they think its an expensive desire.
Gran Turismo came out in 1997. So yes, they've been working on the franchise for 16+ years. Even if you only take the more modern releases into account (GT4/GT5p/GT5/GT6), that's still over 10 years of work.
Well, but GT6 has been developed since less than 3 years ago. Even if its the same franchise, all are different games, for 3 different systems. This comparison doesnt make sense.

I can not afford a good wheel at the moment... besides I'm 100% used to playing with the controller joystick, its not as playing with the wheel but I still can do what I want with the car and I can feel it/control it.

We'll see, but for the moment the content is missing.

There's always the used market. And I'd say even a mid range wheel would do the trick. So it doesn't have to get very expensive.

They are not all different games, GT6 uses some of the same car models that GT4 used. The comparison I'm trying to make is that GT has had all that time to add cars and tracks to the game and you were complaining that Assetto doesn't have enough cars and tracks in PREVIEW version of the game that's only been available since November.
