How is the "new" BRZ different from the Toyota 86 GT?

GT Sport version 1.19 included Subaru BRZ 2015

The vehicle description mentions some suspension tuning as different from the 86, obviously the badging is different, and maybe wheel design (I didn't notice). Are there any other differences? Or is everything else exactly the same? Is this the start of another clone e.g. MX-5 and Skyline?

PD is making some good progress with game content, slow and steady and great stuff (for the most part). I just can't believe they are starting this junk again. Next we will have the Scion FR-S 2015... why not?

Are you talking about the game or the real world?

The BRZ is just an 86 with badges lesbians like, revised spring rates, slightly different nose cone and a different trim level.

I would hope at least the 86 is rhd (?) and the BRZ is lhd (??) so US and UK AU HK JP ZA etc. users have a choice of dash layout.

I pointed this out in another thread the GT6 BRZ had a rear wing on it. They could've add that at least.

I know it's blasphemy but something about the back end feels heavier. There's a gnarly whip back if you excessively apply the throttle just before it's straightened and balanced. I didn't notice this behavior in the 86. It wasn't an issue for me as I trail braked and balanced out the car anyways but a lot of people where throwing the weight forward and hitting the throttle creating sudden moments of overseer acceleration where they would fly off of the track.

For my driving, the difference is negligible but it was clearly an issue for others and if I didn't apply brake and throttle into a turn it would rear its head on me as well.

They already started with this junk again, the game now has two Renault Clio RS, one from 2015 and other from 2016 that was brought in this update, both are the very same asides from some minor tweaks in the suspension layout, weight and I think the engine specs are the same in both

It's quite dumb.

That would be the badge sir/madam.

Do they come with Gingham shirts and Dr Martens shoes?

BRZ felt a bit different than the GT86 in GT6, and was performing better. In real life, suspension settings are a bit different, the GT86 having the reputation to be more drifty.

Actually the Clios are not identical. The new one is 10kg heavier, and can be tuned to a higher maximum power. (about 30hp more)

I haven’t checked the 86/BRZ for differences regarding tuning yet. In stock condition they seem to be identical though.

That must take ages to model.

Although the badges on the 86/BRZ are so different, that could have added a bit of time.

Horrible choice of words. Do we really need to bring your ill-minded opinion into a discussion of cars?
How is this opinion "ill-minded"? It's just a joke about a brand which targeted homosexuals with their ad campaign years ago. Love it when people jump in to protect "oppressed groups" and get offensive themselves.

To stay on topic, no idea, don't like 86 so didn't bother with BRZ

Doesn't make any sense since that's (kinda) the 86es Aero Package wing which is not an option for the BRZ irl :D

Also it's more like the 86 is a re-badged BRZ and not the BRZ is a re-badged 86 ;)

I really don't know much about either one to tell you the truth. I just assumed The BRZ was the one with a different aero package since PD portrayed it that way in GT6.
In RL here in the U.S. all I ever see is the Scion version and it looks like the 86 in the game with no aero package.

That's not true. Toyota created the chassis, bodywork and pretty much everything - Subaru just made the engine. So it comes down to what makes the car 'the car' if you will.

It was technically a collaboration, but I would say that it is predominantly a Toyota - thus the BRZ is a rebadged GT86.

On the spoiler note - the spoiler on the one in GT6 was an optional spoiler IIRC, just as it is an optional spoiler on the GT86 in real life.

And finally, the suspension differences have been noted in real life as well as in the game. Whether you like them or not, they are different driving experiences...

Well Subaru was the intial company that wanted to make such a car. Toyota then jumped in and they did their collaboration. The car is built by Subaru and half the parts of my friend‘s 86 have Subaru brandings stamped on. So I‘d rather say the 86 is a re-badged BRZ than the other way around :)
I read into it a bit more now, Subaru actually finished development of that car without any help by Toyota. Even the FT-86 and counterparts were built by Subaru and then given to Toyota. All ZN-chassis VINs also start with JF1, which is Subaru‘s VIN-ID.

It was only an option on the Toyota tho

Tbh I don’t know much about 86/BRZ thing but I would think that with engine being a flat-4, they would also cooperate on chassis due to to Subaru’s flat engine experience

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the information I know I learned a lot that I didn't know before.

Now we can do this.

Come on, people. :)

We should so do this sometime. Funny thing is I already tried setting this up in an open lobby but nobody joined in. If you restrict the weight and horsepower in the lobbies settings it still brings up 3 other car that can join in too and Someone always does.

I'd finally be down to join an 86/BRZ League. The cars have serious grip as stock. Problem is, picking one livery to race for a "season".

That was actually a great read, thanks for posting it.

It's awesome because when I was young it didn't even occur to me that this old VW ad was featuring two gay guys (or at least alluding to it).

In a similar vein I remember seeing this ad in japan many, many years ago. It still baffles me to this day:

I'm not quite sure what kind of "thrilling time" you can expect if you buy this honda???

I still wouldn't buy one even if I knew.

I'm digging out this older thread because it's the reason for this post.

It was discussed about how cool it would be to have some kinda race with these cars. It took a lot of time and planning but are we finally ready to release a series based off Toyota 86 car.

The Toyota 86 Racing Series.
If anyone is still interested in a racing event like this then please follow the link below and sign up to join us.

Racing will start on Tuesday October 2nd and will be held on every Tuesday after that. The thread has not even been up for 24hr and spots for the 3:00 PM EST - 8:00 PM BST race are filling up quickly but there is also an 8:00 PM EST - 1:00 AM BST for people who perfer later start times.
